Different Types Of Shirk. (Objects being worshipped besides Allah swt)

by Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer on Thursday, 21 July 2011

Shirk and its types

To associate partners with Allah swt is the worst of the all kinds of sins and is termed as shirk in shariah And Allah can forgive every type of sin but He will not forgive this sin of associating partners with Him.

In Surah Nisa Allah swt says:

Verily, Allâh forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases, and whoever sets up partners with Allâh in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin. (An-Nisa 4:48)

And in Surah Maidah Allah swt says:

Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allâh, then Allâh has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers) there are no helpers. (Al-Ma'idah 5:72)

So it is an obligation on every Muslim to avoid from this fatal sin.To avoid this sin we need to know that there are many different types of shirks which are refuted by Allah and His Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam. If we try to understand all these types of shirk InshaAllah we can avoid them in future:

1 Idol worshipping

2 Worshipping of Jesus aliehis salam or trinity

3 Concept of two gods also known as dualism

4 Worshipping of Heavenly organisms/Astrology

5 Worshipping of cow/calf

6 Worshipping of angels/prophets

7 Worshipping of pious people

8 Worshipping of saints and monks

9 Worshipping of Graves

10 concept of no god/worshipping of nature and desires

Idol Worshipping:

Idols were being worshipped during the time of Rasool sala lahao liehi wasalam and polytheists of Arabia used to invoke them besides Allah swt.Prophet salal laho aliehi wasalam refuted them and asked them why they were invoking these idols when they were not capable of helping them in their matters but they responded to the objections of Rasool sala laho aliehi wasalam that they were not worshipping them directly but they were worshipping them for intercession.

Allah swt refuted their sayings in the following way:

Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allâh only. And those who take Auliyâ' (protectors and helpers) besides Him (say): "We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allâh." Verily, Allâh will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allâh guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever. (Az-Zumar 39:3)

Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam also narrated to them the incidence of Ibraheem aliehis salam .

This incidence has been narrated in Holy Quran in the following way:

And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrâhim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allâh, etc.). (Al-Anbiya 21:51) When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" (Al-Anbiya 21:52) They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." (Al-Anbiya 21:53) He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." (Al-Anbiya 21:54) They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" (Al-Anbiya 21:55) He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. (Al-Anbiya 21:56) "And by Allâh, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." (Al-Anbiya 21:57) So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. (Al-Anbiya 21:58) They said: "Who has done this to our âliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." (Al-Anbiya 21:59) They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrâhim (Abraham)." (Al-Anbiya 21:60) They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." (Al-Anbiya 21:61) They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrâhim (Abraham)?" (Al-Anbiya 21:62) [Ibrâhim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" (Al-Anbiya 21:63) So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers)." (Al-Anbiya 21:64) Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrâhim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" (Al-Anbiya 21:65) [Ibrâhim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allâh, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? (Al-Anbiya 21:66) "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allâh! Have you then no sense?" (Al-Anbiya 21:67)

It was a matter of intense grief that they did not obey prophet salal laho aliehi waslam and claimed that they were the real followers of Ibraheem aliehis salam they made the idol of Ibraheem aliehis salam and put in Kaabah and also started worshipping that idol. When prophet salal laho aliehi wasalam conquered Makkah he broke the idol of Ibraheem aliehis salam besides other idols and left the message for humanity that they must not worship any one besides Allah swt.

Worshiping of Jesus aliehi salam:

Jesus aliehis salam was the miraculous creation of Allah swt and Allah swt created him without any father and this was indeed a big sign of Allah’s creations and powers. But Christians were misled by this great sign and started worshipping Jesus aliehis salam by declaring him son of Allah swt.

Allah swt got angry on this act of Christians and said:

And the Jews say: 'Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allâh, and the Christians say: Messiah is the son of Allâh. That is a saying from their mouths. They imitate the saying of the disbelievers of old. Allâh's Curse be on them, how they are deluded away from the truth![] (At-Tawbah 9:30).

On another instance Allah swt says:

Those (Jews, Christians, and pagans) who say, "Allâh has begotten a son (or offspring or children)." (Al-Kahf 18:4) No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. Mighty is the word that comes out of their mouths [i.e. He begot (took) sons and daughters]. They utter nothing but a lie. (Al-Kahf 18:5).

Allah swt proved that Jesus and Mary was not likely to be worshipped because they got hungry and said in the Holy Quran:

The Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary), was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother [Maryam (Mary)] was a Siddiqah [i.e. she believed in the words of Allâh and His Books (see Verse 66:12)]. They both used to eat food (as any other human being, while Allâh does not eat). Look how We make the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) clear to them, yet look how they are deluded away (from the truth). (Al-Ma'idah 5:75).

Allah swt also clarified the doubts that came into minds of christains about the miraculous birth of jesus aliehis salam:

Verily, the likeness of 'Iesa (Jesus) before Allâh is the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then (He) said to him: "Be!" - and he was. (Aali Imran 3:59)

Allah swt also told in Holy Quran that on the day of judgement Jesus aliehis salam will be asked about this acts of Christians .

Allah swt says:

And (remember) when Allâh will say (on the Day of Resurrection): "O 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)! Did you say unto men: 'Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allâh?' " He will say: "Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my inner¬self though I do not know what is in Yours, truly, You, only You, are the All¬Knower of all that is hidden and unseen. (Al-Ma'idah 5:116)."Never did I say to them aught except what You (Allâh) did command me to say: 'Worship Allâh, my Lord and your Lord.' And I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a Witness to all things. (This is a great admonition and warning to the Christians of the whole world). (Al-Ma'idah 5:117)

Allah swt has also declared it an act of disbelief to take jesus aliehis salam as an ilah to be worshipped besides Allah swt .

Allah swt says in Surah Maidah:

Surely, they have disbelieved who say: "Allâh is the Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary)." But the Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)] said: "O Children of Israel! Worship Allâh, my Lord and your Lord." Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allâh, then Allâh has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) there are no helpers. (Al-Ma'idah 5:72) Surely, disbelievers are those who said: "Allâh is the third of the three (in a Trinity)." But there is no ilâh (god) (none who has the right to be worshipped) but One Ilâh (God -Allâh). And if they cease not from what they say, verily, a painful torment will befall the disbelievers among them. (Al-Ma'idah 5:73).

So with the clear evidences Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam refuted the worshipping of jesus aliehis salam and called people of scriptures to worshipping of almighty Allah alone.

Worshipping of two gods:

An other concept prevailing during the time period of Holy prophet salal laho aliehi wasalam was that Zoroastrians were believing in concept of two gods. One of good deeds and light was known as Yazdan and that of bad deeds and darkness was known as Aharman .

Allah swt refuted the concept of two gods and said in Holy Quran:

Had there been therein (in the heavens and the earth) gods besides Allâh, then verily both would have been ruined. Glorified be Allâh, the Lord of the Throne, (High is He) above what they attribute to Him! (Al-Anbiya 21:22)

And on another instance Allah swt says:

And Allâh said (O mankind!): "Take not ilâhaîn (two gods in worship, etc.). Verily, He (Allâh) is (the) only One Ilâh (God). Then, fear Me (Allâh Ìá ÌáÇáå) much [and Me (Alone), i.e. be away from all kinds of sins and evil deeds that Allâh has forbidden and do all that Allâh has ordained and worship none but Allâh]. (An-Nahl 16:51).

From the above verses it is very clear that there is only one Allah who should be worshipped and had there been two gods the whole universe had been destroyed due to confrontation between commands of two gods.

Worshipping of heavenly bodies:

A large number of Human beings have been worshipping and associating their fate with heavenly bodies and stars since a very long time.Even at this moment Hindus and Zoroastrians pray sun and take it as source of power and benefits. This belief has been strictly condemned by Allah swt and His Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam. This mistaken belief was also prevailing in life time of Ibraheem aliehis salam.Allah swt has narrated this incidence in Holy Quran .

Allah swt says:

Thus did we show Ibrâhim (Abraham) the kingdom of the heavens and the earth that he be one of those who have Faith with certainty. (Al-An'am 6:75)When the night covered him over with darkness he saw a star. He said: "This is my lord." But when it set, he said: "I like not those that set." (Al-An'am 6:76)When he saw the moon rising up, he said: "This is my lord." But when it set, he said: "Unless my Lord guides me, I shall surely be among the erring people." (Al-An'am 6:77) When he saw the sun rising up, he said: "This is my lord. This is greater." But when it set, he said: "O my people! I am indeed free from all that you join as partners in worship with Allâh. (Al-An'am 6:78)Verily, I have turned my face towards Him Who has created the heavens and the earth Hanifa (Islâmic Monotheism, i.e. worshipping none but Allâh Alone) and I am not of Al-Mushrikûn . (Al-An'am 6:79).

Thus it can be concluded that Heavenly bodies are not owner of any things rather they are owned by Allah swt.So we need to avoid the worshipping of Sun and Moon .Allah swt has strictly forbidden His worshippers to prostrate before Sun and Moon.

Allah swt says:

Prostrate not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allâh Who created them, if you (really) worship Him.(Fussilat 41:37)

Even the old scriptures have also condemned the worshipping of stars. It is clearly mentioned in old testament

And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.(Deuteronomy 4:19 English Standard Version (©2001) )

It is blessing of Allah swt on Muslims that they donot worship and prostrate before Sun and Moon and other heavenly bodies .But it is very unlucky that a large number of Muslims associate their fate with different stars and an overwhelming majority is interested in knowing their horoscope and affect of different stars on their life. We should follow instructions of Allah and His Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam on these issues.

It is mentioned in hadith Narrated by Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, he reported:

Allah's Messenger (may peace and blessings be upon him) led the Morning Prayer at Al-Hudaibiah. There were some marks of the rainfall during the night. At the conclusion of the Prayer he turned towards people and observed: Do you know what your Lord has said? They replied: Allah and His Messenger know best. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) remarked: He (Allah) said: Some of My bondsmen entered the morning as My believers and some as unbelievers. He who said: We have had a rainfall due to the Blessing and Mercy of Allah, is My believer and a disbeliever of stars, and who said: We have had a rainfall due to the rising of such and such (star) disbelieved in Me and affirmed his faith in the stars. (Al-Bukhari :Book on The Call for Prayer: Hadith 801, Friday Prayer: Hadith 980, Battles: Hadith 3832, Monotheism: Hadith 6949, Muslim : Book on Faith: Hadith 104, Al-Nisa`i : Book on Asking for Rain: Hadith 1508, Abu-Dawud :Book on Medical Treatment :Hadith 3407, Ahmed b. Hanbal : Part 4 Page 116, 117, 118,Malik :Book on Asking for Rain :Hadith 405 )

Now it is time to think that if some one associates a single rainfall with stars is disbeliever in Allah swt.So what will be the fate of the person who associates his upcoming weeks ,months ,years ,travels, marriages and death with stars.Indeed according to the sayings of Prophet salal laho aliehi wasalam he/she is the one who believes in stars and disbelieves in Allah swt. Thus it is an obligation on every Muslim that he/she must avoid believing in stars and should not take interest in this mistaken activity even for fun and entertainment.May Allah guide us all to the right path ameen.

Worshipping of Cow/Calf :
Many people have been involved in worshipping of certain animals and think that they are the owner of their fates.Hindus at this moment think that cow is a sacred animal and address it as mother cow. They forget that cow is not even the owner of her own life. This wrong belief was also prevailing in the tribe of Moses aliehis salam .Allah swt commanded them that they should sacrifice a cow so that the reality of cow can be exposed but they tried to ignore this command of Allah swt.

This incidence has been revealed in Holy Quran in following ways:

And (remember) when Mûsa (Moses) said to his people: "Verily, Allâh commands you that you slaughter a cow." They said, "Do you make fun of us?" He said, "I take Allâh's Refuge from being among Al-Jâhilûn (the ignorants or the foolish)." (Al-Baqarah 2:67) They said, "Call upon your Lord for us that He may make plain to us what it is!" He said, "He says, 'Verily, it is a cow neither too old nor too young, but (it is) between the two conditions', so do what you are commanded." (Al-Baqarah 2:68)They said, "Call upon your Lord for us to make plain to us its colour." He said, "He says, 'It is a yellow cow, bright in its colour, pleasing to the beholders.' " (Al-Baqarah 2:69) They said, "Call upon your Lord for us to make plain to us what it is. Verily to us all cows are alike, And surely, if Allâh wills, we will be guided." (Al-Baqarah 2:70) He [Mûsa (Moses)] said, "He says, 'It is a cow neither trained to till the soil nor water the fields, sound, having no other colour except bright yellow.' " They said, "Now you have brought the truth." So they slaughtered it though they were near to not doing it. (Al-Baqarah 2:71).

This incidence makes it clear that no animal is owner of its own fate .So when some one cannot own its own fate how can it help some one else.

Worshipping of Angels/Prophets:

Many people respect angels and prophets to the extent that they start thinking that they can help us in solving our miseries and problems.

Allah swt strictly refutes this idea and says:

It is not (possible) for any human being to whom Allâh has given the Book and Al-Hukma (the knowledge and understanding of the laws of religion, etc.) and Prophethood to say to the people: "Be my worshippers rather than Allâh's." On the contrary (he would say): "Be you Rabbaniyun (learned men of religion who practise what they know and also preach others), because you are teaching the Book, and you are studying it." (Aali Imran 3:79) Nor would he order you to take angels and Prophets for lords (gods). Would he order you to disbelieve after you have submitted to Allâh's Will? (Tafsir At-Tabarî). (Aali Imran 3:80).

These two verses make it clear that angels and prophets cannor be worshipped despite their elevated status in eyes of Allah swt and it is an act of shirk to take them as lords besides Allah swt.

Worshipping of Monks and Saints:

Many of the people take religious personalities like saints ,monks and ulemas as the esteemed being and accept their sayings without any condition and elevate them to status of lord .

It is not allowed in Islam and Allah swt has made it clear in Holy Quran:
They (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allâh (by obeying them in things which they made lawful or unlawful according to their own desires without being ordered by Allâh), and (they also took as their Lord) Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), while they (Jews and Christians) were commanded [in the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)) to worship none but One Ilâh (God - Allâh) Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)[]. Praise and glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him)." (At-Tawbah 9:31)

So we need to avoid worshipping of monks, saints and ulemas.

Worshipping of Graves:

It was a tradition in tribe of bani Israel that they were habitual of prostrating before graves of their prophets.Prophet salal lahoa liehi wasalam condemned this act of worshipping of grave and said:

1 Narrated 'Aisha and 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas radi Allahu anhum ajma een: When the disease of Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him)got aggravated, he covered his face with a Khamisa, but when he became short of breath, he would remove it from his face and say, "It is like that! May Allah curse the Jews Christians because they took the graves of their prophets as places of worship." By that he warned his follower of imitating them, by doing that which they did.( Bukhari : Book 7 : Volume 72 : Hadith 706)

2 .Jundub radi Allahu anhu reported: I heard from the Apostle of Allah ( peace be upon him) five days before his death and he said: Beware of those who preceded you and used to take the graves of their prophets and righteous men as places of worship, but you must not take graves as mosques; I forbid you to do that.( Muslim : Book 4 : Hadith 1083 )

3. Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhumha: The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) cursed women who visit graves, those who built mosques over them and erected lamps (there). (Sunan AbiDawud : Book 20 : Hadith 3230 )

4. Yahya related to me from Malik from Ismail ibn Abi Hakim that he heard Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz rahimahullah say, "One of the last things that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said was, 'May Allah fight the jews and the christians. They took the graves of their Prophets as places of prostration . Two deens shall not co-exist in the land of the Arabs.' (Malik : Book 45 : Hadith 45.5.17 )

All these hadiths make it clear that it is not allowed to worship graves of prophets. So if graves of prophets cannot be worshipped how can some one worship graves of saints, monks and ulemas.

Concept of No God:

During the time period of Holy prophet salal laho aliehi wasalam many people used to think that there is no God and this system is running automatically this concept is known as atheism Allah swt clarified this wrong concept on many instances and made it clear that Allah swt is lord of universe .Let us have a look on some of the instances where Allah swt has refuted the concept of atheism .

Allah swt says:
And he puts forth for Us a parable, and forgets his own creation. He says: "Who will give life to these bones when they have rotted away and became dust?" (Ya-Sin 36:78) Say: (O Muhammad SAW) "He will give life to them Who created them for the first time! And He is the All-Knower of every creation!" (Ya-Sin 36:79) He, Who produces for you fire out of the green tree, when behold! You kindle therewith. (Ya-Sin 36:80) Is not He, Who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the like of them? Yes, indeed! He is the All-Knowing Supreme Creator. (Ya-Sin 36:81) Verily, His Command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, "Be!" and it is! (Ya-Sin 36:82)

On another instance Allah swt says:
And they say: "When we are bones and fragments (destroyed), should we really be resurrected (to be) a new creation?" (Al-Isra 17:49) Say (O Muhammad SAW) "Be you stones or iron," (Al-Isra 17:50)"Or some created thing that is yet greater (or harder) in your breasts (thoughts to be resurrected, even then you shall be resurrected)" Then, they will say: "Who shall bring us back (to life)?" Say: "He Who created you first!" Then, they will shake their heads at you and say: "When will that be ?" Say: "Perhaps it is near!" (Al-Isra 17:51) On the Day when He will call you, and you will answer (His Call) with (words of) His Praise and Obedience, and you will think that you have stayed (in this world) but a little while! (Al-Isra 17:52)

On another instance Allah swt says:
Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones? (Al-Qiyamah 75:3) Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers. (Al-Qiyamah 75:4)

Yet on another instance Allah swt says:
Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilâh (god), and Allâh knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allâh? Will you not then remember? (Al-Jathiyah 45:23) And they say: "There is nothing but our life of this world, we die and we live and nothing destroys us except Ad-Dahr (the time). And they have no knowledge of it, they only conjecture. (Al-Jathiyah 45:24)And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them, their argument is no other than that they say: "Bring back our (dead) fathers, if you are truthful!" (Al-Jathiyah 45:25) Say (to them): "Allâh gives you life, then causes you to die, then He will assemble you on the Day of Resurrection about which there is no doubt. But most of mankind know not." (Al-Jathiyah 45:26)

All these verses make it clear that Allah is the creator of mankind and atheists have no weight in their argument and we must not follow our desires and ignore the powers of Allah swt.

May Allah guide us all to the right path and clear our doubts about concept of Oneness of Lord ameen.

afraid of Allah swt on Fridays or Ramadan or Masjid Only

Some people are afraid of Allah swt on Fridays but donot take care of His commands on other week days. They are punctual in their prayers in Ramadan but forget them in other months of year .Similarly some people are religious in masjids but careless in markets .This is not a healthy attitude and it needs to be changed. Allah swt likes consistent attitude .May Allah bless us with consistency ameen.

[Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer]

Who is a scholar (‘aalim)?

Praise be to Allaah.

The words ‘aalim (scholar), faqeeh and mujtahid all carry the same meaning: they refer to one who strive to reach the shar‘i ruling and who has the ability to derive shar‘i rulings from the evidence.

This means that he has to acquire the tools (pre-requisites) of ijtihaad. No one can be described in these terms (‘aalim, mujtahid or faqeeh) except one who meets the pre-requisites of ijtihaad.

The scholars paid attention to these pre-requisites so that the door is not open to just anyone, old or young, to say about the religion of Allah that of which he has no knowledge.

But we will content ourselves with just two reports from which we will demonstrate what these pre-requisites are.

-1-

The first report was narrated from al-Shawkaani (may Allah have mercy on him) and what he said may be summed up in five points, listing five pre-requisites:

 (i) He should have knowledge of the texts of the Qur’aan and Sunnah.
This does not necessarily mean that he should have memorised the Sunnah; rather it is sufficient for him to be able to find reports in their places and be familiar with the contents of the books of Sunnah, foremost among which are the well-known compilations of the Sunnah (Saheeh al-Bukhaari, Saheeh Muslim, Sunan Abi Dawood, Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Sunan al-Nasaa’i and Sunan Ibn Maajah), and so on.
He should also know what is saheeh (sound) and what is da‘eef (weak) in the texts of the Sunnah.
(ii) He should have knowledge of the issues of consensus (ijmaa‘)
(iii) He should be well versed in the Arabic language.
It is not stipulated that he should have learned it by heart; rather he should be able to understand the meanings and structure of the language.
(iv) He should have knowledge of usool al-fiqh (basic principles of Islamic jurisprudence), including analogy (qiyaas), because usool al-fiqh is the foundation for deriving rulings.
 (v) He should have knowledge of what abrogates and what is abrogated (al-naasikh wa’l-mansookh).

See: Irshaad al-Fuhool, 2/297-303

-2-

The second report was narrated from Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him):

He mentioned the pre-requisites of the mujtahid without differing greatly from what al-Shawkaani (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned, but he put it more clearly and said:

Ijtihaad is subject to several conditions, including the following:

 (i) He (the mujtahid) should have knowledge of the shar‘i evidence that he needs for the purpose of ijtihaad, such as verses of the Qur’aan and hadeeths that speak of rulings.
(ii) He should have knowledge of the matters pertaining to the soundness or weakness of hadeeths, such as the isnaad, the men in the isnaad and so on.
(iii) He should be aware of what abrogates and what is abrogated (al-naasikh wa’l-mansookh) and issues on which there is consensus (ijmaa‘), so that he will not issue a ruling on the basis of something that has been abrogated or that is contrary to scholarly consensus.
(iv) He should have knowledge of various matters affecting the ruling, such as reports of specific meanings, reports that set limits, and so on, so that he will not issue a ruling that is contrary to that.
 (v) He should have knowledge of the Arabic language and usool al-fiqh that has to do with verbal evidence, such as what is general and what is specific, what is absolute and what is restricted, what is mentioned in brief and what is mentioned in detail, and so on, so that his rulings will be in accordance with what is indicated by that evidence.
(vi) He should have the ability to derive rulings from the evidence.

End quote from al-Usool fi ‘Ilm al-Usool, p. 85, 86; Sharh (commentary thereon), p. 584-590.

It should be pointed out that referring to the Sunnah now is much easier than it was before, because of the books that have been written on the Sunnah.

The one who fulfils these conditions is a scholar (‘aalim) who can derive shar‘i rulings from the evidence. Anyone who does not fit this description cannot be described as a ‘aalim, faqeeh or mujtahid.

It should also be noted that these words (‘aalim, mujtahid and faqeeh) are technical terms, as it were; according to the scholars they have specific meanings and pre-requisites. So it is not permissible to use them readily about anyone who speaks about Islamic rulings or teaches Islamic material in schools and universities, or who works in the field of da‘wah (calling people to Allah). A man may be a daa‘iyah, calling people to Allah, and putting a great deal of effort into that, without having reached the level of being a scholar (‘aalim).

We ask Allah, may He be exalted, to teach us that which will benefit us and increase us in knowledge.

And Allah knows best.

EXCESSIVE HUMOR AND ITS BAD EFFECTS

by Mohammad Ali on Islamic Brother Forum

Asalam o alaikum ,

I believe whatever i am going to write below is very very important and is coming straight from my bad experiences in the past. Actually the thing is that, too much humor is sometimes the cause of rifts which arise between relations. A person keeps on being humorous until a time comes when humor becomes his/her habit and he/she is always doing it. At that time that person doesn't realize that he/she can say anything in humor to the other person which he/she doesn't realize but the person with whom they do humor, takes it straight to the heart. By Allah i did humor with some of my friends and they stopped talking to me because of that or became rude with me. I was in search of the reason for a long time. Later when i came to know that they took that humor of mine seriously and started ignoring me because of tat reason. I was very shocked. Seriously. I never thought that my humor, which i did unintentionally out of my habit, could have such a poisonous effect. I just thought it was a light humor, but for them it was big. That's why Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:
"And say to My slaves that they should (only) say those words that are the best. (Because) Satan verily, sows disagreements among them. Surely, Satan is to man a plain enemy." (17:53)

Thing is, Allah Almighty has created all human beings and given them different habits and nature and emotions. So we cannot go on with everyone like we want. Rather we have to understand and respect their emotions and deal with them accordingly. Insha Allah then relations will be best maintained. I learnt this and wanted to share with everyone. I believe that the hadith: "One who believes in Alalh and the Hereafter should say something good, or should keep silent." (Sahih Bukhari) is also meant to avoid these rifts. If we look at the lives of sahaba, they were always very decent with each other. They did humor, but that humor was not always and never crossed limits, because they understood this fact that human beings have different nature and emotions. U never know who gets hurt at what u utter. May Allah help us maintain relations on the footsteps of Holy Prophet sallalaho alayhi wassalam. Ameen. Jazak Allah khair

Qualities of a good leader according to Quran and Sunnah

by Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer on Friday, 15 July 2011 at 23:21

Allah swt and His Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam has guided humanity in every sphere of life .They have also guided us in matters of selection of our leader. Different people have different perceptions related t o choice of leadership. Some people think leader should be smart and handsome .Some people think he should be quick and intelligent.

We need to know what Allah and His Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam has recommended in this regard.

Allah swt has elaborated the incidence of prophet Samuel .People of Israel came to him and demanded for a king or leader under whose leadership they could fight with non believers.Prophet Samuel told them that Allah swt has selected Taloot as a king for them .They objected on his leadership because he was not wealthy .prophet Samuel told them that wealth was not a criteria in choice of leadership .He told them Taloot deserved to be a king because he was having knowledge and power.

This incidence has been narrated in Holy Quran in following manner :

Have you not thought about the group of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Musâ (Moses)? When they said to a Prophet of theirs, "Appoint for us a king and we will fight in Allâh's Way." He said, "Would you then refrain from fighting, if fighting was prescribed for you?" They said, "Why should we not fight in Allâh's Way while we have been driven out of our homes and our children (families have been taken as captives)?" But when fighting was ordered for them, they turned away, all except a few of them. And Allâh is All-Aware of the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) And their Prophet (Samuel) said to them, "Indeed Allâh has appointed Talût (Saul) as a king over you." They said, "How can he be a king over us when we are better fitted than him for the kingdom, and he has not been given enough wealth." He said: "Verily, Allâh has chosen him above you and has increased him abundantly in knowledge and stature. And Allâh grants His Kingdom to whom He wills. And Allâh is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower." (Al-Baqarah 2:246-247)

These verses clearly indicates that two important attributes of leadership are:

1 Knowledge
2 Power

Knowledge guides the king or leader to the right path he is able to comprehend the situation wisely due to his knowledge and than after probing the situation he should have power to take decision accordingly .If he does not have power than he is unable to implement his decisions.Power refers to the psychological ,decision and physical power .So any person who is strong in his decisions ,and is able to cope with circumstances with bravery he should be chosen as leader.

Besides knowledge and power justice ,patience .sound judgement are also important attributes which should be possessed by the leader.

In Surah Sad Allah swt has narrated the incidence of Dawood aliehis salam who once gave a decision in favour of 1st party without listening the opinion of the 2nd party Allah swt corrected him on that instance and guided him that he should listen to the opinion of 2nd party in future.

This incidence has been narrated in Holy Quran in following manner:
We made his kingdom strong and gave him wisdom and sound judgement in speech and decision. (Sad 38:20) And has the news of the litigants reached you? When they climbed over the wall into (his) Mihrâb (a praying place or a private room,). (Sad 38:21) When they entered in upon Dâwûd he was terrified of them, they said: "Fear not! (We are) two litigants, one of whom has wronged the other, therefore judge between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, and guide us to the Right Way. (Sad 38:22) Verily, this my brother (in religion) has ninety nine ewes, while I have (only) one ewe, and he says: "Hand it over to me, and he overpowered me in speech." (Sad 38:23) Dâwûd said (immediately without listening to the opponent): "He has wronged you in demanding your ewe in addition to his ewes. And, verily, many partners oppress one another, except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and they are few." And Dâwûd guessed that We have tried him and he sought Forgiveness of his Lord, and he fell down prostrate and turned (to Allâh) in repentance. (Sad 38:24) So We forgave him that, and verily, for him is a near access to Us, and a good place of (final) return (Paradise). (Sad 38:25) O Dâwûd! Verily! We have placed you as a successor on earth, so judge you between men in truth (and justice) and follow not your desire for it will mislead you from the Path of Allâh. Verily! Those who wander astray from the Path of Allâh (shall) have a severe torment, because they forgot the Day of Reckoning. (Sad 38:26)

These verses clearly indicate two other attributes of leadership

1 Patience
2 Justice

Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam was very conscious about justice and never compromised on it and there is a hadith narrated by Aisha radi Allaha anha which indicates his sensitivity about this justice :

Aisha radia Allaha anha, the wife of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), reported that the Quraish were concerned about the woman who had committed theft during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), in the expedition of Victory (of Mecca). They said: Who would speak to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) about her? They (again) said: Who can dare do this but Usama b Zaid, the loved one of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) ? She was brought to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and Usama b. Zaid spoke about her to him (interceded on her behalf). The colour of the face of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) changed, and he said: Do you intercede in one of the prescribed punishments of Allah? He (Usama) said: 'Messenger of Allah, seek forgiveness for me. When it was dusk. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) stood up and gave an address. He (first) glorified Allah as He deserves, and then said: Now to our topic. This (injustice) destroyed those before you that when any one of (high) rank committed theft among them, they spared him, and when any weak one among them committed theft, they inflicted the prescribed punishment upon him. By Him in Whose Hand is my life, even if Fatima daughter of Muhammad were to commit theft, I would have cut off her hand. He (the Holy Prophet) then commanded about that woman who had committed theft, and her hand was cut off. 'A'isha (further) said: Hers was a good respentance, and she later on married and used to come to me after that, and I conveyed her needs (and problems) to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) (Sahih Muslim: Book 17, Hadith 4188)

Another important attribute which is to be possessed by the leader is communication skill.A leader must be excellent in communication so that he can convince peole. When Mosa aliehis salam was bestowed with prophet hood he invoked Allah to bless his brother Haroon as his associate the reason given by Mosa aliehis salam has been mentioned in Holy Quran in the following way:
"And my brother Hârûn (Aaron) he is more eloquent in speech than me so send him with me as a helper to confirm me. Verily! I fear that they will belie me." (Al-Qasas 28:34)

Similarly piety and Simplicity are two other important attributes which should be possessed by leader:

Allah swt has said in the Holy Quran:

Verily, the most honourable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2). Verily, Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (Al-Hujurat 49:13)

The Caliphs of Rasool sala laho aliehi waslaam ie Abu bakar,Umer ,Usman and Ali Ridwanillahee aliehim ajmaeen were all pious and simple people but ruled the globe and proved themselves as successful leaders of their age.

Similarly Allah swt has commanded believers that they should support people who are truthful .Allah swt says:
O you who believe! Be afraid of Allâh, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds). (At-Tawbah 9:119)

So summing up the discussion the attributes which are to be possessed by the leaders are as follow:

1 Knowledge
2 Power
3 Sound Judgement
4 Patience
5 Justice
6 Communication skills
7 Piety
8 Simplicity
9Truth

May Allah give us toufeeq to choose our leader by keeping in view the attributes pointed out by Allah and His Rasool salal laho aliehi waslaam ameen

Be successful more than Oxford or MIT graduate so avoid slavery become Leader of Islam

By Brother Mohammad Ali on Islamic Brother Forum

Asalam o alaikum wr wb everyone.

I attended a very good islamic conference in which i heard a great lecture on youth. It was given by Dr Idrees (Head of Al-huda institute) and i will be adding something from myself to it and share with you people. Allah Almighty has mentioned a great incident about youth in the Holy Quran. Allah says:

"(Remember) when the YOUNG men fled for refuge (from their disbelieving folk) to the Cave, they said: "Our Lord! Bestow on us mercy from Yourself, and facilitate for us our affair in the right way!" (Surah Kahaf Chapter 18 Verse 10)

Point to note. Allah said 'fityatu' in the ayah, which means young. Allah could have said 'rijaalun' which means men. But specifically Allah Almighty mentioned the word YOUNG. The fact is, it is the youth of every nation from whom it is most expected, would rise and lead and make the world follow them. When Rasul Allah sallalaho alayhi wassalam reached madinah. He was introduced to a young boy who was at that time 10 years old. Guess how he was introduced? It was told to Holy Prophet(pbuh) that this young boy has memorized the Quran a lot more than anyone else in Madinah. Imagine. This was the introduction of a young boy. But today how we introduce our kids or ourselves? "Hello. This is my son and he is a graduate from the best university of the world." "Hello. This is my daughter and she is a doctor." "Hello. I am a great singer and i have a music band." and so on and so forth. But imagine the greatness of that young fellow who got introduced like that before the Messenger of Allah and the Messenger smiled. Imagine, if Rasul Allah sallalaho alayhi wassalam was alive at this time and we introduced ourselves like we do, before him, would it bring a smile on his face??

The beloved Messenger of Allah (sallalaho alayhi wassalam) told that young boy to learn hebrew and guess what. That young boy learned the hebrew in 14 days only! Working hard day and night he followed what his master and his prophet told him to do. And this great young man then became the debater of Muslims infront of the jews who used to come to Allah's Messenger (pbuh) and talk to him about their books but this young man would shut them up by telling them in hebrew the verses of their own book about Allah's divinity and Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) forthcoming. And this young man then became the one who compiled the Holy Quran. Yes you are right. It was Zayd ibn thabit(razi Allah anhu). The chief of the Quran compilation committee, formed by Hazrat Abu Bakr (razi Allah anhu). The one who got the honor of compiling a book which generations would read and follow. Imagine the status of such a person. Such are the young men whose mention reaches the higher heavens and who are mentioned by angels and who are praised by the angels. Such are the young men, who become leaders of the world and make others follow them.

But today we find a youth, devoid of any purpose and guideline and direction. Who is following worthless individuals and destroying their talents. Who have lost the vision of leadership and have chosen to become slaves. Who dance at the tunes of those who want them to dance at whatever they want. Who would make them dance at whatever they want. The youth of today has become an easy target for our enemies. I remember reading a book on salah ud din ayyubi's life and i read in it that the christians tried to allure the Muslim mujahids through un dressed women, but they would pass by as if there is nothing. But for the youngsters of today, one immoral actress is enough for them to leave their eman. Its a pity. Its time we all stand up as one unit and show the world what we can do. Its high time that we realize that the youth of Islam is not worthless one who will dance like puppets on the songs of those who want to destroy it. Its high time that we all step up as think tanks for the ummah and spend all our energy for Islam. Its high time we step forward and do something as a unit for our brothers and sisters who are still entrapped in the deceptions of this world.

Reality of Shabe baraat(15th Shaban)

by Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer on Friday, 15 July 2011

Islam is the religion chosen by Allah swt and it guides the humanity in all spheres of life. All the good deeds which are source of reward and all the bad deeds which are source of earning wrath of Allah swt have been mentioned clearly in Quran and authentic hadiths.

Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam is the last messenger of Allah swt and his words and sayings besides Quran are authority for us.Allah swt has clearly stated in Holy Quran:

Indeed in the Messenger of Allâh (Muhammad SAW) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allâh and the Last Day and remembers Allâh much. (Al-Ahzab 33:21)

On another instance Allah swt says:

He who obeys the Messenger (Muhammad SAW), has indeed obeyed Allâh, but he who turns away, then we have not sent you (O Muhammad SAW) as a watcher over them. (An-Nisa 4:80)

These verses of Quran clearly indicate that sayings of Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam are authority in matters of deen .

Now we should look in to the matter of Shab e baraat in light of Quran and Sunnah .

It is an obvious fact that Quran was revealed in month of Ramadan from Loh e Mehfooz to first heavens in Night of Qadar .This reality has been elaborated in Holy Quran in following way:

Verily! We have sent it (this Qur'ân) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) (Al-Qadr 97:1)

And Allah swt has also made it clear in the Holy Quran that in this night decisions are made.

Allah swt says:

Therein descend the angels and the Rûh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] by Allâh's Permission with all Decrees, (Al-Qadr 97:4)

So it is clear that decisions about human beings are made in night of Decree which is the night of Ramadan .

Now Some of the people have innovated the idea of another night and named it has lailah e mubarakah or blessed night and claimed that it is night of 15th Shaban. They quote the verse of Surah Dukhan about it that in this night decisions are made so it should be celebrated like night of Qadar in Ramadan.

When we look into the text of Surah Dukhan it appears as follows:

We sent it (this Qur'ân) down on a blessed night. Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. Amran (i.e. a Command or this Qur'an or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), (Ad-Dukhan 44:3-5)

Now it is very clear that all the matters are decided in blessed night. Now we have to resolve the reality of blessed night in the light of verses of Holy Quran .In surah Qadar Allah says that it was revealed in night of decree and in this night all matters are decided. On the other instance in Surah Dukhan Allah says that it was revealed in blessed night in which all matters are decided .

It is clear from these two surahs that blessed night and night of decree are the names of same night like Muhammad and Ahmad salal laho aliehi wasalam are the name of same prophet .There is no difference between these two nights .So any one who want to seek the blessings of Allah in blessed night he should search it in last five odd nights of Ramadan .

When we consult hadiths on this particular issue we come to know that there is no authentic hadith that highlights the significance of this particular night. There are some weak hadiths but they cannot be taken as authority on this issue. Some of the scholars of the past like Ibne Taimiyyah ,Imam nawwi ,Imam Nasir ud din albani ,Hafiz Ahmad shakir and Hafiz Muhammad Gonalivi rahimahumallahu aliehim ajmaeen had the view that some of the hadiths related to 15th shabaan glorifies this night compared to other nights of the year but even than the attributes assigned to this night by innovators are not proved from Quran and authentic Hadith.

Prophet salal laho aliehi wasalam used to fast on 13th 14th and 15th of every month so any one who fasts on these nights he should also fast on 13th 14th and 15th of Shabaan. But as far as the fasting on 15th of shabaan only is concerned it is not proved from any authentic hadith

As far as worshipping on this night is concerned it is to be noted that purpose of creations of human beings is to worship Allah swt and no practical Muslim is forgetting his obligation to worship Allah swt during any moment of his life but if some one thinks that decision about his fate will be made on this night than he should be clear that the decisions of the fate are revealed in night of decree which is found in last five odd nights of Ramadan.

So what we have to do is to follow Quran and hadith in all matters of life .May Allah guide us all to right path ameen

Majority of people measure progress in terms of technological & economic development BUT

Majority of people measure progress in terms of technological & economic development .It is an established fact that religion in general & specifically Islam is not against technological & economic development. But one thing is to be noted that a godless society may be apparently more developed but it is hollow from inside. On contrary an Islamic society may be apparently less developed but it is strong from inside.

16 Ways to kick bad Habits

Try these proven techniques for a successful positive change in your habits (during Ramadan and beyond!):

1.Acknowledge and identify your bad habits: First step is to admit you need to change. If you are in a state of denial, you won't recognize that you have a bad habit to change.

2.Pick a habit for 30 days: Prioritize your bad habits and focus on one for 30 days. Take a 30-day trial to re-condition your habits. If you are committed to changing at least one habit, you will see remarkable results, God-willing.

3.Realize that it's in us to change: Don't believe the old saying, You can't teach an old dog new tricks. You can break a bad habit if you really want to. No one else can change your habits, if you don't want to.

Khushoo in Salah - Ibn Al-Qayyim

Khushoo means devotion. Khushoo is when one's complete attention during Salah is to Allah (swt)

Some of the sahaba asked "What is Ihsan (perfection)?" Allah's Apostle Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him replied, "To worship Allah (swt) as if you see Him, and if you cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is looking at you." (Bukhari 2:47)

Love of Allah: When does the love of Allaah save a person from punishment?

Praise be to Allaah.

Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said regarding this matter:

There are four kinds of love, which we must differentiate between, and those who go astray do so because they do not make this distinction. The first of them is love of Allaah, but this alone is not sufficient to save a person from the punishment of Allaah and to earn him His reward. The Mushrikeen, worshippers of the cross, Jews and others all love Allaah. The second is love of that which Allaah loves. This is what brings a person into Islam and out of Kufr. The most beloved of people to Allaah is the one who is most correct and most devoted in this kind of love. The third kind is love for the sake of Allaah, which is one of the essentials of loving that which Allaah loves. A person’s love of that which Allaah loves cannot be complete until he also loves for the sake of Allaah. The fourth is love for something alongside Allaah, and this love has to do with shirk. Everyone who loves things alongside Allaah but not for the sake of Allaah has taken that thing as a rival to Allaah. This is the love of the Mushrikeen. There remains a fifth kind of love which has nothing to do with our topic; this is the natural love which is a person’s inclination towards that which suits his nature, such as the love of a thirsty person for water or of a hungry person for food, or the love of sleep, or of one’s wife and children. There is nothing wrong with this unless it distracts a person from remembering Allaah and keeps him from loving Him. Allaah says (interpretation of the meanings):

“O you who believe! Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allaah” [al-Munaafiqoon 63:9]

“Men whom neither trade nor sale (business) diverts from the remembrance of Allaah” [al-Noor 24:37]

(Al-Jawaab al-Kaafi, 1/134)

And he said (may Allaah have mercy on him):

The difference between loving for the sake of Allaah and loving something alongside Allaah is one of the most important distinctions. Everyone needs to make this distinction and is indeed obliged to do so. Loving for the sake of Allaah is a sign of the perfection of faith, but loving something alongside Allaah is the essence of shirk. The difference between them is that a person’s love for the sake of Allaah is connected to his love of Allaah; if this love becomes strong in his heart, this love dictates that he will love that which Allaah loves. If he loves that which his Lord loves and he loves those who are the friends of Allaah, this is love for the sake of Allaah. So he loves His Messengers, Prophets, angels and close friends because Allaah loves them, and he hates those who hate them because Allaah hates those people. The sign of the love and hatred for the sake of Allaah is that his hatred for the one whom Allaah hates will not turn into love merely because that person treats him kindly, does him a service or meets some need he has; and his love for those whom Allaah loves will not turn to hatred simply because that person does something that upsets or hurts him, whether it is done by mistake or deliberately, in obedience to Allaah or because the person feels that he has a duty to do it for some reason, or because the person is a wrongdoer who may yet give up his wrongdoing and repent. The entire religion revolves around four principles: love and hatred, and stemming from them, action and abstinence. The person whose love and hatred, action and abstinence, are all for the sake of Allaah, has perfected his faith so that when he loves, he loves for the sake of Allaah, when he hates, he hates for the sake of Allaah, when he does something, he does it for the sake of Allaah, and when he abstains from something, he abstains for the sake of Allaah. To the extent that he is lacking in these four categories, he is lacking in faith and commitment to religion. This is in contrast to the love of things alongside Allaah, which is of two types. One is diametrically opposed to the principle of Tawheed and is shirk; the other is opposed to perfection of sincerity and love towards Allaah, but does not put a person beyond the pale of Islam.

The first kind is like the love of the Mushrikeen for their idols and gods. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And of mankind are some who take (for worship) others besides Allaah as rivals (to Allaah). They love them as they love Allaah” [al-Baqarah 2:165]

These Mushrikeen love their idols and gods alongside Allaah as they love Allaah. This love and devotion is accompanied by fear, hope, worship and supplication. This love is pure Shirk which Allaah does not forgive. Faith cannot be perfected unless a person regards these idols as enemies and hates them intensely, and hates the people who worship them, and regards them as enemies and strives against them. This is the message with which Allaah sent all His Messengers and revealed all His Books. He created Hell for the people of shirk who love these rivals, and He created Paradise for those who strive against them and take them as enemies for His sake and to earn His Pleasure. Anybody who worships anything from the vicinity of the Throne to the lowest depths of the earth and takes a god and a supporter besides Allaah and associates another beings in worship with Him, will be disowned by the object of his worship when he is most in need of it [i.e., on the Day of Judgement].

The second kind is love for the things which Allaah has made attractive to people, such as women, children, gold, silver, branded beautiful horses, cattle and well-tilled land. People love them with a kind of desire, like the love of the hungry person for food and the thirsty person for water. This love is of three kinds. If a person loves them for the sake of Allaah and as a means of obeying Allaah, he will be rewarded for that; it will be counted as a part of love for the sake of Allaah and a means of reaching Him, and he will still find enjoyment in them. This is how the best of creation [i.e. the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] was, to whom women and perfume were made dear in this world, and his love for them helped him to love Allaah more and to convey His Message and fulfil His commands. If a person loves them because they suit his nature and his own desires, but he does not give them preference over that which Allaah loves and is pleased with, and he gets them because of his natural inclination, then they come under the heading of things which are permissible, and he will not be punished for that, but his love of Allaah and for the sake of Allaah will be lacking somewhat. If his sole purpose in life is to get these things, and he gives priority to that over that which Allaah loves and is pleased with, then he is wronging himself and following his own desires.

The first is the love of al-Saabiqoon (those who are foremost in Islam); the second is the love of al-muqtasidoon (those who are average) and the third is the love of al-zaalimoon (the wrongdoers).

May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad.

Love of Allah: Fleeing to Madeenah form tribulation

Praise be to Allaah.
It is proven in the hadeeth of Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Madeenah is like a bellows that eliminates the dross and enhances the good elements.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6785; Muslim, 1383.
Al-Nawawi said: What this means is that those who faith is contaminated will leave Madeenah and those whose faith is sincere will stay there. It is proven in the hadeeth of Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no land that the Dajjaal will not enter, apart from Makkah and Madeenah. At every path of them there are angels in ranks, guarding them. Madeenah will be shaken three times with its inhabitants, and Allaah will bring out of it every kaafir and hypocrite.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1782; Muslim, 160.
And it was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There will come a time when a man will say to his cousin and relatives, ‘Come to an easy life, come to an easy life,’ but Madeenah will be better for them if only they knew. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, no one leaves Madeenah because he prefers to lives elsewhere but Allaah will replace him with someone who is better. Madeenah is like a bellows that brings out the dross. The Hour will not begin until Madeenah is cleansed of its evil people like the bellows cleanses iron of dross.”
Narrated by Muslim, 1381.
These ahaadeeth explain that no evil will remain in Madeenah and that it is always cleansed of its evil; the Dajjaal will never enter it, and it is a better for those who leave it for other places.
But this does not necessarily mean that those who leave Madeenah have been tempted by the Shaytaan. Allaah has created the causes of remaining steadfast in adhering to truth and guidance, just as He has created the causes of going astray. Everything is in the hand of Allaah, from beginning to end, and Allaah creates causes for everything.
Some of the causes and means of remaining steadfast in adhering to guidance are as follows:
1-     Remembering Allaah a great deal (dhikr), praying and reading Qur’aan
2-     Always making du’aa’ and asking Allaah to make one steadfast
3-     Keeping company with good people and sitting with righteous people
4-     Keeping away from situations and places that provoke desires and cause temptation
5-     Arming oneself with Islamic knowledge
6-     Calling people to Allaah (da’wah) and sacrificing that which is most precious for the sake of Allaah
7-     You should read the books Ways to Steadfast Faith and the book  , 33 Ways of Developing Khushoo’ in Salaah on this website (under Useful Material > Books).
May Allaah help you to do all that is good.
