Allah
swt created the father of humanity Adam aliehi salam from dust and clay
and this fact has been mentioned in Quran in the following manner:
And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black
smooth mud. (Al-Hijr 15:26)
And later on his generations were continued through drop of
water as mentioned in Quran in the following manner:
And indeed We created man (Adam) out of an extract of clay
(water and earth). Thereafter We made him (the offspring of Adam) as a Nutfah
(mixed drops of the male and female sexual discharge) (and lodged it) in a safe
lodging (womb of the woman). (Al-Mu'minun 23:12-13)
And among His Signs is this, that He created you (Adam) from
dust, and then [Hawwa' (Eve) from Adam's rib, and then his offspring from the semen,
and], - behold you are human beings scattered! (Ar-Rum 30:20)
As a result of this cycle Allah swt created a large number
of human beings as mentioned in Holy Quran in the following manner:
O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a
single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)],
and from them both He created many men and women (An-Nisa 4:1)
This large number of human beings was later on merged into
different large ethnic groups and small sub groups .There were two purposes of
this division:
1 Sign of ALLAH swt i.e diversity in His creation
2 Identification of human beings
These two purposes have been mentioned in following verses of
Holy Quran:
And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the
earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. Verily, in that are
indeed signs for men of sound knowledge. (Ar-Rum 30:22)
On another instance Allah swt says:
See you not that Allâh sends down water (rain) from the sky, and
We produce therewith fruits of varying colours, and among the mountains are
streaks white and red, of varying colours and (others) very black. And of men
and AdDawâb (moving living creatures, beasts, etc.), and cattle, in like
manner of various colours. It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves
that fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is AllMighty, OftForgiving. (Fatir 35:27-28)
It means that this diversity is not only prevailing in
human beings but this diversity is apparent in other creations also and when
a person concentrates on this diversity he is amazed at the creative
power of Allah swt and than he returns towards Him in submission and humility.
The second purpose of this creation is identification which is
obvious from the following verse of the Holy Quran:
O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and
made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the
most honourable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one
of the Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2). Verily, Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Aware.
(Al-Hujurat 49:13)
This diversity in ethnicity and tribes is highlighting the fact
that the tribes are for identification and nobody can be preferred on other due
to his race and ethnicity .Some people are proud of their ethnicity and race
and take others as inferior to them where as in fact all human beings are equal
except those who are having real fear of Allah swt.The pride of a particular
human being on his ethnicity and language is indeed a sign of his ignorance .
This fact has been mentioned in khutbah of Hajj of Holy prophet
salal laho aliehi wasalam:
All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority
over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white
has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except
by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim
and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood.
It is unlucky that Muslims have forgot the last khutbah of Hajj
of their prophet salal laho aliehi wasalam and till this day are showing
pride in their ethnicity ,caste ,colour and creed where as after the advent of
Islam all Muslims black or white Arab or non Arabs have been converted to
Ummah .
Allah swt has said in the Holy Quran:
"The believers are nothing else than brothers. So make
reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allah, that you may receive
mercy." (Al-Hujjurat, 49:10)
And it has been mentioned in hadith of Rasool salal laho aliehi
wasalam:
"The Believers, in their mutual love, mercy and compassion,
are like one body: if one organ complained, the rest of the body develops a
fever." (Bukhari & Muslim)
It is a matter of pity that Muslims are like one body and Allah
swt haS established brotherhood between them but till this day Muslims are
fighting each other on the basis of caste ,colour and creed.Arab is mocking non
Arab. Persian is mocking Arab,Pakistani is mocking Afghani,Indian is mocking
Pakistani,Pashtoo speaking is mocking Punjabi speaking and Punjabi speaking is
mocking Urdu speaking .
Every one is assuming that he is superior and forgets the ayah
of Holy Quran:
O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it
may be that the latter are better than the former; nor let (some) women scoff
at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former, nor
defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it, to
insult one's brother after having Faith [i.e. to call your Muslim brother (a
faithful believer) as: "O sinner", or "O wicked", etc.].
And whosoever does not repent, then such are indeed Zâlimûn (wrong-doers,
etc.). (Al-Hujurat 49:11)
Muslims should be knowing that tribes are for identification and
languages are for communication. These things donot make some one superior.
Superiority is based on two attributes:
1)Knowledge
2)Piety
These two things have been mentioned in the following verses of
Holy Quran:
"Are those who know equal to those who know
not?" It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e. get a lesson
from Allâh's Signs and Verses). (Az-Zumar 39:9)
On another instance Allah swt says:
Allâh will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those
who have been granted knowledge. And Allâh is Well-Acquainted with what you do.
(Al-Mujadilah 58:11)
As far as status due to Taqwah is concerned it has been mentioned
in Holy Quran :
. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allâh is that
(believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2).
Verily, Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (Al-Hujurat 49:13)
Before the advent of Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam tribes
were fighting each other due to their genealogy but prophet salal laho aliehi
wasalam combined them and bring them all under the umbrella of Islam.
It is an established fact that Arabic got superiority over other
languages because message of Allah swt was revealed in this language
but it is also an established fact that message of Quran has preference
over its language because its message is not restricted to Arabs or residents
of Hijaz it is for whole universe.
Allah swt has clearly indicated this reality in Holy Quran in
following manner:
And if We had sent this as a Qur'ân in a foreign language other
than Arabic, they would have said: "Why are not its Verses explained in
detail (in our language)? What! (A Book) not in Arabic and (the Messenger) an
Arab?" Say: "It is for those who believe, a guide and a healing. And
as for those who disbelieve, there is heaviness (deafness) in their ears, and
it (the Qur'ân) is blindness for them. They are those who are called from a place
far away (so they neither listen nor understand). (Fussilat 41:44)
Alas Muslims are unable to comprehend the message of universal
brother hood and are fighting with each other in the name of tribes ,ethnicity
and languages .There is no concept of east or west in Islam .It is a global
reality and message of Islam is beyond time and space.
Allama Iqbal truely presented the current scenario of Muslims in
following way:
Yoon To Syed Bhi Ho, Mirza Bhi Ho, Afghan Bhi Ho
Tum Sabhi Kuch Ho Batao Ke Musalman Bhi Ho”
And on another instance he truely said:
Firqa bandian hain kaheen or kaheen zatain hain
Kiya zamanay main panapnay key yahee batain hain
If Muslims raise above these things and see the world with the
eyes of Muslims they can counter the attacks of infidels else they will be
humiliated for decades.
If our religion will be our binding force we will be loving each
other on the base of our religion as mentioned in following hadiths of Rasool
salal laho aliehi wasalam:
1)"None of you truly believes until he loves for his
brother what he loves for himself." (Bukhari & Muslim)
2)You will not enter paradise until you believe, and you will
not believe until you love one another. Shall I not guide you to something
which if you carry out you will love one another? Spread salaam amongst
yourselves." (Muslim)
3) "If one of you loves his brother for Allah's sake, then
let him know, since it causes familiarity to endure and firmly establishes
love."
4) "Do not have malice against a Muslim; do not be envious
of other Muslims; do not go against a Muslim and forsake him. O the slave of
Allah! Be like brothers with each other. It is not allowed for a Muslim to
desert his brother for over three days." (Muslim & Tirmidhi)
The message delivered in these hadiths was truely reflected in
the lives of sahabas. They used to love and hate not on the base of ethnicity
.They used to love each other on the base of Islam even if there was a gap of
ethnicity between them and used to hate enemies of Allah swt even if
there was a close relation between them.
Allah swt has also made it clear in the Holy Quran in the
following verse:
You (O Muhammad SAW) will not find any people who believe in
Allâh and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allâh and His
Messenger (Muhammad SAW ), even though they were their fathers, or their sons,
or their brothers, or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in
their hearts, and strengthened them with Rûh (proofs, light and true guidance)
from Himself. And We will admit them to Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers
flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allâh is pleased with them, and they with
Him. They are the Party of Allâh. Verily, it is the Party of Allâh that will be
the successful. (Al-Mujadilah 58:22)
On another instance Allah swt says:
O you who believe! Take not for Auliyâ' (supporters and helpers)
your fathers and your brothers if they prefer disbelief to Belief. And whoever
of you does so, then he is one of the Zâlimûn (wrong-doers, etc) Say: If your
fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your kindred, the wealth that
you have gained, the commerce in which you fear a decline, and the dwellings in
which you delight … are dearer to you than Allâh and His Messenger, and
striving hard and fighting in His Cause[], then wait until Allâh brings about
His Decision (torment). And Allâh guides not the people who are Al-Fâsiqûn (the
rebellious, disobedient to Allâh). (At-Tawbah 9:23-24)
Ibne Hisham quoted the incident of Musab ibne Umair radi Allahu
anhu who was appointed as guard on the prisoners on day of Badar. He found his
real brother Abu Azeez among the prisoners .Musab ibn e Umair commanded his
associate Abu Yusr: "Treat him harshly, for his mother is a
wealthy woman." Abu 'Azeez said: "Brother is it for you to
give this counsel?" "Mu'sab replied" You are not my
brother," my brother is the one who is tying up your hands."
When stance of Quran is clear on us how can we claim superiority
over others on the basis of caste, colour and creed. How can an Arab mock a non
Arab ?how can an Indian think low of Pakistani and how can a Punjabi,Pushtoo or
Urdu speaking Muslims have rivalry with each other.
