Funeral Prayer - Position of Imaam (Ahadith 1114 - 1115)

Bismillah.
Volume 2, Book 23, Number 415:
Narrated Samura bin Jundab:
I offered the funeral prayer behind the Prophet for a woman who had died during child-birth and he stood up by the middle of the coffin.
Volume 2, Book 23, Number 416:
Narrated Samura bin Jundab
I offered the funeral prayer behind the Prophet for a woman who had died during child-birth and he stood up by the middle of the coffin.
The Sunnah in the funeral prayer, if it is for a man, is for the imam to stand in line with his head. If he is offering the funeral prayer for a woman, he should stand in line with her middle. That is because of the report narrated by Samurah ibn Jundub who said: I offered the funeral prayer behind the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) for a woman who died in childbirth, and he stood in line with her middle.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1331; Muslim, 964
And Imam Ahmad (12701) and Abu Dawood (3141) narrated that Naafi‘ Abu Ghaalib al-Khayyaat said: I saw Anas ibn Maalik offer the funeral prayer for a man, and he stood in line with his head. When that bier was taken away, the bier of a woman of Quraysh or of the Ansaar was brought, and it was said to him: O Abu Hamzah, this is the bier of So and so, the daughter of So and so; please offer the funeral prayer for her. So he offered the funeral prayer for her, standing in line with her middle. Al-‘Alaa’ ibn Ziyaad al-‘Adawi was among us, and when he saw that he stood in a different place with relation to the man and the woman, he said: O Abu Hamzah, is this how the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to stand in relation to a man and in relation to a woman, as you did? He said: Yes. He said: al-‘Alaa’ turned to us and said: Remember this.
Classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allah have mercy on him).
An-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
The Sunnah is for the imam to stand in line with the woman’s buttocks, and there was no difference of opinion concerning the hadeeth, and it is more effective in screening her from the rest of the congregation. With regard to a man, there are two views; the correct view, according to the consensus of the scholars, and many of them stated it categorically, as it is the view of the majority of our earlier companions, is that he should stand in line with his head. The second view was stated by Abu ‘Ali at-Tabari, who said that he should stand in line with his chest. But the correct view is the former, which was narrated from the majority, and that is that he should stand in line with his head. This was also narrated by al-Qaadi Husayn from his companions.
End quote from Sharh al-Muhadhdhab, 5/183
Ash-Shawkaani (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
What is implied by these two hadeeths – the hadeeths of Samurah and Anas (may Allah be pleased with them) – that the imam should stand in line with the head of a man and in line with a woman’s middle, is the view of ash-Shaafa‘i and it is correct.
End quote from Nayl al-Awtaar, 4/80
Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
It is Sunnah for the imam to stand in line with a man’s head and in line with a woman’s middle, because that is proven from the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in the hadeeth of Anas and Samurah ibn Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him). As for the view of some scholars, that the Sunnah is to stand in line with a man’s chest, this is a weak (da‘eef) view for which there is no evidence as far as we know.
End quote from Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa, 13/142
And Allah knows best.

Who Leads The Friday Prayer? (Hadith No. 716)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.
Volume 2, Book 13, Number 716:
Narrated Ibn Umar:
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "All of you are Guardians."
Yunis said: Ruzaiq bin Hukaim wrote to Ibn Shihab while I was with him at Wadi-al-Qura saying, "Shall I lead the Jumua prayer?" Ruzaiq was working on the land (i.e farming) and there was a group of Sudanese people and some others with him; Ruzaiq was then the Governor of Aila. Ibn Shihab wrote (to Ruzaiq) ordering him to lead the Jumua prayer and telling him that Salim told him that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar had said, "I heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'All of you are guardians and responsible for your wards and the things under your care. The Imam (i.e. ruler) is the guardian of his subjects and is responsible for them and a man is the guardian of his family and is responsible for them. A woman is the guardian of her husband's house and is responsible for it. A servant is the guardian of his master's belongings and is responsible for them.' I thought that he also said, 'A man is the guardian of his father's property and is responsible for it. All of you are guardians and responsible for your wards and the things under your care."
Ideally, the Imaam (leader) of a people is supposed to lead the prayers in the masjid(s) of that people.
When I say people, I mean town/city/township/village etc.
But the sad reality is that the ministers and governors only lead people in the worldly matters. When it comes to Salah in the masjid, an Imaam is 'hired' to do the job. Double sigh.
Wassalam.

Benefits of Imaan

by Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer

Real Iman or true faith is such a big blessing from Almighty Allah swt that it cannot be compared with any other blessing of Allah swt .If a person has health ,wealth ,fame and intellect but he lacks faith indeed he is a loser in here after.A real Muslim also termed as Momin should have firm belief in all the pillars of faith .The basic pillars of faith are:

1 Faith in Oneness of Allah

2 Faith in Muhammad salal laho aliehi wasalam as final prophet and messenger

3 Faith in all the prophets of Allah swt

4 Faith in all the angels of Allash swt

5 Faith in all the books revealed by Allah swt

6 Faith in Quran as the final Book

7 Faith in Destiny i.e Takdeer of Allah swt

8 Faith in Day of Judgement

When a person will have firm belief in all these pillars of faith and will be doing righteous deeds to endorse his faith he will be favoured by Allah swt in this life and hereafter. Some of the benefits gained by firm belief are as follows:

1 Peace ful and Blessed Life:

To lead a peaceful life is goal and target of every human being and many people struggle hard to achieve this target but are unable to achieve it due to lack of knowledge and guidance.

Allah swt has made this thing clear in Holy Quran that whoso ever will be a firm believer he will be blessed with a peaceful life .Allah swt says:
Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islâmic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision). (An-Nahl 16:97)

2 Guidance from Allah swt:

Every human being wishes that he should be on right path .Allah swt has made it clear that Allah swt will guide the true believers on right path.Allah swt says:
And verily, Allâh is the Guide of those who believe, to the Straight Path. (Al-Hajj 22:54)

3 Getting love of Human beings

In this material world a person cannot achieve love of human beings easily .Even some times blood relations are not sincere with eachother .But a person with firm belief and righteous deeds succeeds in getting love of human beings.Allah swt says in Holy Quran:

Verily, those who believe [in the Oneness of Allâh and in His Messenger (Muhammad SAW)] and work deeds of righteousness, the Most Beneficent (Allâh) will bestow love for them (in the hearts of the believers). (Maryam 19:96)

4 Friendship and Protection of Allah swt.

The friendship and protection of Allah swt is a great blessing and lucky are those who are able to achieve Friend ship of Allah swt .If Allah is the protector of someone no one can harm that person and indeed he has gained success in this life and hereafter This friendship and protection of Allah swt can only be achieved with the help of firm belief.Allah swt says:

Allâh is the Walî (Protector or Friend) of those who believe. (Al-Baqarah 2:257)

5 Removal of depression and Anxietis:

Current era is the era of depression and anxieties. This anxiety and depression has a damaging affect on humanity and human beings feel them selves isolated and empty due to these psychological problems.Allah swt has made it easy for believers to overcome their depressions and anxieties. With the increase in faith a stage comes when these depressions and anxieties cannot do any harm to a true believer.Allah swt had made it clear in Holy Quran:

No doubt! Verily, the Auliyâ' of Allâh no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve, Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism), and used to fear Allâh much . (Yunus 10:62,63)

6 Opening of Doors of Blessings from Heavens and Earth:
If a person needs provisions and success in this life he needs favour of Allah swt .Allah swt has made it clear in the Holy Quran that He will open doors of blessings for true believers. Allah swt says:

And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwâ (piety), certainly, We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes, etc.). (Al-A'raf 7:96)

7 The Most trustworthy hand hold provided by Allah:

When a person is in trouble he needs some support .If he is provided support in time he is able to overcome that trouble. It is blessing of Allah on true believers that He has provided them the most trustworthy handhold.Allah swt says:
Whoever disbelieves in Tâghût and believes in Allâh, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (Al-Baqarah 2:256)

8 Removal of Darkness:

When a person is facing crisis or some problem he feels as he is engulfed in darkness.Similarly if some one faces confusion on some issue he feels himself in darkness. It is very difficult to overcome dark patches of life but if a person has firm belief in Allah swt .Allah swt takes him out of that darkness.Allah swt says:

Allâh is the Walî (Protector or Guardian) of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light. (Al-Baqarah 2:257)

9 Safety from anger and punishment of Allah swt:

The wrath and anger of kings is very dangerous and anger of every king is in accordance with his power and capacity. No one can comprehend the situation when The King of the kings become angry .When Allah swt is angry no one can even think of resisting and tolerating His anger. But it is the blessing of Allah swt on believers that He never punishes them.Allah swt says in the Holy Quran:

Why should Allâh punish you if you have thanked (Him) and have believed in Him. And Allâh is Ever All¬Appreciative (of good), All¬Knowing. (An-Nisa 4:147)

10 Better reward from Allah swt:

It is the tradition of Allah swt that He never ignores the effort and work which is done for His sake.Allah swt has made it clear in the Holy Quran:
And if they had believed, and guarded themselves from evil and kept their duty to Allâh, far better would have been the reward from their Lord, if they but knew! (Al-Baqarah 2:103)

11 Kingdom of this world:

Allah swt is the owner of Kingdom in this world and herafter.Allah swt has promised in Holy Quran that He will bless kingdom of world to those who will have firm belief.Allah swt says:

Allâh has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islâm). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fâsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh). (An-Nur 24:55).

Muslims were ruler of the land for more than a thousand year. That was the time when they had firm belief but when they became weaker in their belief they were dominated by others.

12 Success of Hereafter:

The real success is the success of hereafter.Allah swt has made it clear in the Holy Quran :

And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing). (Aali Imran 3:185)

This real success is only achieved by those who are firm in their belief and Allah swt will bless them with this success .Allah swt says:

But those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism) and do deeds of righteousness, We shall admit them to the Gardens under which rivers flow (i.e. in Paradise) to dwell therein forever. Allâh's Promise is the Truth, and whose words can be truer than those of Allâh? (Of course, none). (An-Nisa 4:122)

On another instance Allah swt says:

"Verily! Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh Islâmic Monotheism) and do righteous deeds, shall have the Gardens of Al-Firdaus (the Paradise) for their entertainment. "Wherein they shall dwell (forever). No desire will they have to be removed therefrom." (Al-Kahf 18:107,108)

All these benefits can be gained if we have firm belief in pillars of faith.May Allah swt give us taufeeq to have firm belief and we are capable of gaining all these benefits in this life and hereafter Ameen.

The Prophet sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam has actually closed all ways to Shirk and warned his Ummah (Muslims) strictly not to fall in it

ALL PRAISES BE TO ALLAH
One of the aspects of Shirk in the world at the present time is offering sacrifices, vows and gifts for sanctuaries and graves.

The Prophet sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam has actually closed all ways to Shirk and warned his Ummah (Muslims) strictly not to fall in it. One of these ways is the issue of graves, where he put preserving restraints from worshipping them or exaggerating their rank. Such as:

<>1- He warned of exaggeration in pious and good men. This is because exaggeration leads afterwards to worshipping, he said, “إياكم والغلو” - meaning – “Be aware of Exaggeration, for (Nations) who were before you were cursed because of exaggeration ”. And he said, “لا تطروني” - meaning – “Do not over praise me as Christians over praised Isa (Jesus) the son of Mariam (Mary) because I am only a slave, so you should say, ‘the slave and the Messenger of Allâh’.”

Shiekh Hazrat Ali Hajvery was Great Scholar and Preacher of Islam and He called people toward Good [Islam] but People have Made Miraz or Tomb at his Grave.

<>2- He warned of constructing buildings over graves. For Abu Al-Hayyaj Al-Asadi said, ‘Ali bin Abi Taleb told me once, “shall I send you for a mission once the Messenger of Allâh sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam sent by for, [it is] “لا تدع” - meaning – “Do not leave any idol unless it is destroyed, nor you leave an up leveled grave unless you level it down to ground”.
Jaber(r.a) said, “the Messenger of Allâh sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam prohibited from plastering graves and sitting in them as well as constructing a building on them.”

<>3- He warned of performing prayer at these graves. A’ishah (r.a) said, ‘when the last moment of the life of Allâh's Messenger sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam came, he started putting his 'Khamisa' on his face. And when he felt hot and short of breath he took it off his face and said, “لعنة الله على اليهود والنصارى” - meaning – “May Allâh curse the Jews and Christians for they built the places of worship at the graves of their Prophets.” The Prophet sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam was warning (Muslims) of what those had done. Otherwise, he would have protruded his grave, but he feared it might be taken as places of worship’, and he said, “ألا وإن من قبلكم كانوا يتخذون” - meaning – “Those who were before you (nations) used to construct places for prayer over their Prophets’ graves. Verily, I forbade you from doing so”. In fact, taking graves as mosques means performing prayers there even if there is no building to pray, since every place constructed for the purpose of performing prayer is a mosque.

The Prophet sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam said, “جعلت لي الأرض” - meaning – “The earth has been submitted for me (and all Muslims) as a pure place to perform Prayer”, so if they instruct a building thereon, it would be worse.
Unfortunately, most people violated these prohibitions and committed what the Prophet has forbidden until they fell in the Major Shirk. They constructed buildings, sanctuaries, and sepulchers over graves.

Moreover, they made from them shrine to be visited at which all sorts of polytheism is committed, such as, slaughtering for them, invoking to them, calling them for help, offering vows and so on. The great scholar Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “whoever compares between what the Prophet ordered or restrained from and what most people nowadays do, would certainly find a great contradiction to an extent that they would never agree.

The Prophet sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam actually restrained from performing prayers at graves and these people perform prayers there. He restrained from taking them as mosques, while these people construct buildings there and call them sights resembling houses (mosques) of Allâh. Furthermore, he forbade lighting lamps there, while they specialize periods where they ignite lamps. Also he restrained from taking these places as feasts to celebrate, while those specialize for them feasts and ceremonies where they gather for exactly as they gather for Islâmic feasts or more.

Besides, he decreed that they must be leveled, for Muslim narrated that Ibn Abi Al-Hayyaj…, and he (Muslim) also reported in his Sound Book (of Hadith) that Thumamah bin Shafei said, “we were once with Fudalah bin Ubeid in Rome – Rodus, when one of our friends died. Fudalah then ordered to level his grave and said, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allâh sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam once commanding to level graves’.”

After all, these people exaggerate in contradicting and opposing these two Hadith (traditions) and raise graves up and build domes on them…. So you may notice this great difference between what the Messenger of Allâh sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam has decreed with the great purpose of His prohibition and what these people have decreed and meant.

No doubt, this is a mischief which can not be controlled anymore….(mentioning this blights)… and one of them is that reason for which our Prophet decreed visiting the graves for us is to recall the Thereafter and do well deeds concerning the dead like calling Mercy from Allâh for him etc.

Therefore, a man who visits the tombs is doing well for himself as well as for the dead; however, these polytheists have turned this aspect upside down and altered their Religion when they made the reason from visiting the graves Ash-Shirk and calling the dead for help, aid and support against enemies and so on. So they turned out to be behaving badly towards themselves and towards the dead even if the consequence was just being deprived of what Allâh has decreed for our good in this concern.”

Consequently, we know that offering vows and sacrifices for shrines is a major Shirk. It is actually caused by the disobedience of the Prophet’s guidance due to the behaving with the dead and their graves. Some of these instructions were: not to construct buildings over them, or make mosques (places to pray) over there because when this happened, domes were built and vows were offered, then ignorant people thought that these buried people can benefit and harm, and that they can respond to their call so they offered them vows and sacrifices and are still doing this.

Finally, these graves with their people turned out to be worshipped statues, the Prophet sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam said, “اللهم لا تجعل قبري” - meaning – “O Allâh! Do not let them make my grave a worshipped idol!” In fact, the Messenger of Allâh sallaALLAHu alaihi wasallam never asked this from Allâh except for that something like this is going to happen with other than his grave, and it did happen in many Islâmic countries. However, Allâh preserved his grave ? from such ignorance as a response for his call. Although some ignorant people may commit some violations there but because his grave is in his house and surrounded by three walls it is very difficult to reach his honorable grave. Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “So, the Lord of the ‘Alamin responded his call when He surrounded his grave by three walls”.
