No Zakah for Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)'s Family (Hadith No. 1221)

Bismillah.
Hadith no. 1220 (below) is a repeat. Read it here.
Volume 2, Book 24, Number 561:
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (radiallaahu `anhu):
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "There is no Zakat on less than five Awsuq (of dates), or on less than five camels, or on less than five Awaq of silver." (22 Yameni Riyals Faransa).

Today's Hadith:

Volume 2, Book 24, Number 562:
Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaahu `anhu):
Dates used to be brought to Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) immediately after being plucked. Different persons would bring their dates till a big heap collected (in front of the Prophet). Once Al-Hasan (radiallaahu `anhu) and Al-Husain (radiallaahu `anhu) were playing with these dates. One of them took a date and put it in his mouth. Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) looked at him and took it out from his mouth and said, "Don't you know that Muhammad's offspring do not eat what is given in charity?"
The scholars are unanimously agreed that it is not permissible for the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to eat from the obligatory zakaah. This consensus was narrated by more than one scholar.
See: Mawsoo’at al-Ijmaa’ by Sa’di Abu Jayb (2/517-518).
With regard to voluntary charity, most scholars are of the view that it is permissible for the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to take from it. This is the well known view of the madhhabs of the four imams of fiqh (Abu Haneefah, Maalik, al-Shaafa’i and Ahmad, may Allaah have mercy on them all).
See: Radd al-Muhtaar (2/351), al-Taaj wa’l-Ikleel (3/223), Mughni al-Muhtaaj (4/195), Kashshaaf al-Qinaa’ (2/291-292).

In the Grave.. (Hadith No. 1120)

Bismillah.
Hadith no. 1118 is a repeat. It's about Najashi's death and funeral prayer. Read on it here.
Volume 2, Book 23, Number 421:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
A black person, a male or a female used to clean the Mosque and then died. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) did not know about it . One day the Prophet remembered him and said, "What happened to that person?" The people replied, "O Allah's Apostle! He died." He said, "Why did you not inform me?" They said, "His story was so and so (i.e. regarded him as insignificant)." He said, "Show me his grave." He then went to his grave and offered the funeral prayer.
Read about delayed funeral prayer here.
One of the questions we'll be asked in our graves is about the Messenger (SAW). And we'll only be able to say what we 'really' believed and acted upon. Read further to see how a believer will answer and how a non-believer/hypocrite will answer the same question.
Volume 2, Book 23, Number 422:
Narrated Anas:
The Prophet said, "When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their foot steps, two angels come to him and make him sit and ask him: What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad? He will say: I testify that he is Allah's slave and His Apostle. Then it will be said to him, 'Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it.' " The Prophet added, "The dead person will see both his places. But a non-believer or a hypocrite will say to the angels, 'I do not know, but I used to say what the people used to say!' It will be said to him, 'Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by reciting the Quran).' Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns."
Another version of this narration has been posted previously. Here's the link.
May Allah make us true followers of Muhammad (SAW)), and may we be able to answer the questions in grave correctly and see our places in Paradise right there. May we rise as the ummati(s) of Muhammad (SAW) on the Day of Judgement, and may we be served from Al-Kauthar that day. May we get his company in Jannat-ul-Firdaws. May we really love him.
Wassalam.

The Night Routine (Ahadith 804 - 805)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 16, Number 804:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:
Once I passed the night in the house of Maimuna (his aunt). I slept across the bed while Allah's Apostle and his wife slept length-wise. The Prophet slept till midnight or nearly so and woke up rubbing his face and recited ten verses from Surat "Aal-Imran." Allah's Apostle went towards a leather skin and performed ablution in the most perfect way and then stood for the prayer. I did the same and stood beside him. The Prophet put his right hand on my head, twisted my ear and then prayed two Rakat five times and then ended his prayer with Witr. He laid down till the Muadh-dhin came then he stood up and offered two Rakat (Sunna of Fajr prayer) and then went out and offered the Fajr prayer.
(See Hadith No. 183, Vol. 1)

Another version (very interesting, in fact) here.

Volume 2, Book 16, Number 805:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar :
The Prophet said, "Night prayer is offered as two Rakat followed by two Rakat and so on, and if you want to finish it, pray only one Raka which will be Witr for all the previous Rakat." Al-Qasim said, "Since we attained the age of puberty we have seen some people offering a three-Rakat prayer as Witr and all that is permissible. I hope there will be no harm in it."

Discussed in the previous post.

  • Prophet (SAW) sleeps after `Ishaa' prayer, without praying witr.
  • He (SAW) wakes up at around midnight, rubbing his eyes (very cool and important Sunnah - makes your sleep go away in a jiffy!)..
  • He recites ten verses from Surah Al-i-Imran. We get to know from other narrations that these are the last ten verses of Surah Al-i-Imran.
  • He performs ablution in the perfect way. Not lazily, or half sleeping.
  • He stands for prayer.. prays 10 rak`aat like this: 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2.
  • He ends his prayer with witr (1 rak`ah), when it's almost time for Fajr.
  • He lies down to rest a while, waiting for the Mu'adhdhin to call the Adhaan.
  • He gets up, prays two rak`aat of Fajr sunnah prayers.
  • And he leaves for the masjid to offer the Fajr prayer.
That's as simply as I can describe the night routine of the Prophet (SAW). There's great benefit in following it, not just spiritually, but physically and mentally also. Your day starts early, you get plenty of time to do your work in peace and quiet, you're more productive, you get time to spend alone with yourself and Allah etc.

P.S. it's because of the curiosity of Ibn Abbas (RA) that we know of Prophet (SAW) night routine. May Allah exalt his rank in Jannah and give me the opportunity to meet and thank him there (say Ameen if you want it for yourself!). :D
Wassalam.

Excellence of the Ansaar (Hadith No. 747)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 747:
Narrated Ibn Abbas:
Once the Prophet ascended the pulpit and it was the last gathering in which he took part. He was covering his shoulder with a big cloak and binding his head with an oily bandage. He glorified and praised Allah and said, "O people! Come to me." So the people came and gathered around him and he then said, "Amma ba'du." "From now onward the Ansar will decrease and other people will increase. So anybody who becomes a ruler of the followers of Muhammad and has the power to harm or benefit people then he should accept the good from the benevolent amongst them (Ansar) and overlook the faults of their wrong-doers."

Ansar (Arabic: الأنصار‎ al-Anṣār) is an Islamic term that literally means "helpers" and denotes the Medinan citizens that helped Muhammad and the Muhajirun on the arrival to the city after the migration to Medina. They belonged to two main tribes, the Banu Khazraj and the Banu Aws. [Wikipedia]

We all know who the Ansaar were. We read about the in the Seerah of the Prophet (SAW) - how they helped the Muslims who migrated from Makkah, how they shared their wealth, property, houses, and even families with them, how they sacrificed for Islam. This is just one example.

Their efforts and sacrifices in the name of Islam raised their status to such heights that Prophet (SAW) said what he said in the above mentioned Hadith, that the ruler should accept the good from the benevolent amongst them (Ansar) and overlook the faults of their wrong-doers. Not just that. It's a sign of IMAAN to have love for the Ansaar. Can you believe it? :O
Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said, The sign of Eemaan is love for the Ansaar and the sign of hypocrisy is hatred for the Ansaar.
Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. trans. 1/21/no.16). Refer also to Fadaailus-Sahaabah of Imaam Ahmad (2/790).
Even now, Madinah and its people are so amazing. You can't help but love them. :P
Wassalam.

Alhamdulillah for the Prophet [SAW] (Hadith No. 744)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 744:
Narrated Aisha:
Once in the middle of the night Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) went out and prayed in the mosque and some men prayed with him. The next morning the people spoke about it and so more people gathered and prayed with him (in the second night). They circulated the news in the morning, and so, on the third night the number of people increased greatly. Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) came out and they prayed behind him. On the fourth night the mosque was overwhelmed by the people till it could not accommodate them. Allah's Apostle came out only for the Fajr prayer and when he finished the prayer, he faced the people and recited "Tashah-hud" (I testify that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah and that Muhammad is His Apostle), and then said, "Amma ba'du. Verily your presence (in the mosque at night) was not hidden from me, but I was afraid that this prayer (Prayer of Tahajjud) might be made compulsory and you might not be able to carry it out."

Alhamdulillah. Allah sent Prophet (SAW) as a mercy for all mankind, for us. He did not want to burden us, he always made things easy for us. Alhamdulillah, tahajjud is not obligatory. :P

Think about it, do we really 'thank' Allah for sending such an awesome and amazing person to us as our Messenger?
Wassalam.
