As-Safa and Al-Marwah are of the Symbols of Allah (Hadith No. 1406)

Bismillah.
Hadith no. 1405 (below) is a repeat. Read a similar Hadith here.
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 705:
Narrated Muhammad bin 'AbdurRahman bin Nawfal Al-Qurashi:
I asked 'Urwa bin Az-Zubair (regarding the Hajj of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)). 'Urwa replied, "Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa) narrated, 'When the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) reached Mecca, the first thing he started with was the ablution, then he performed Tawaf of the Ka'ba and his intention was not 'Umra alone (but Hajj and 'Umra together).' " Later Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) I performed the Hajj and the first thing he started with was Tawaf of the Ka'ba and it was not 'Umra alone (but Hajj and 'Umra together). And then 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) did the same. Then 'Uthman (radiallaahu `anhu) performed the Hajj and the first thing he started with was Tawaf of the Ka'ba and it was not 'Umra alone. And then Muawiya (radiallaahu `anhu) and 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) did the same. I performed Hajj with Ibn Az-Zubair and the first thing he started with was Tawaf of the Ka'ba and it was not 'Umra alone, (but Hajj and 'Umra together). Then I saw the Muhajirin (Emigrants) and Ansar doing the same and it was not 'Umra alone. And the last person I saw doing the same was Ibn 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu), and he did not do another 'Umra after finishing the first. Now here is Ibn 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) present amongst the people! They neither ask him nor anyone of the previous ones. And all these people, on entering Mecca, would not start with anything unless they had performed Tawaf of the Ka'ba, and would not finish their Ihram. And no doubt, I saw my mother and my aunt, on entering Mecca doing nothing before performing Tawaf of the Ka'ba, and they would not finish their lhram. And my mother informed me that she, her sister, Az-Zubair (radiallaahu `anhu) and such and such persons had assumed lhram for 'Umra and after passing their hands over the Corner (the Black Stone) (i.e. finishing their Umra) they finished their Ihram."

Today's Hadith:

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 706:
Narrated 'Urwa:
I asked 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa): "How do you interpret the statement of Allah,: Verily! (the mountains) As-Safa and Al-Marwa are among the symbols of Allah, and whoever performs the Hajj to the Ka'ba or performs 'Umra, it is not harmful for him to perform Tawaf between them (Safa and Marwa.) (2.158). By Allah! (it is evident from this revelation) there is no harm if one does not perform Tawaf between Safa and Marwa." 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa) said, "O, my nephew! Your interpretation is not true. Had this interpretation of yours been correct, the statement of Allah should have been, 'It is not harmful for him if he does not perform Tawaf between them.' But in fact, this divine inspiration was revealed concerning the Ansar who used to assume lhram for worship ping an idol called "Manat" which they used to worship at a place called Al-Mushallal before they embraced Islam, and whoever assumed Ihram (for the idol), would consider it not right to perform Tawaf between Safa and Marwa.
When they embraced Islam, they asked Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) regarding it, saying, "O Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)! We used to refrain from Tawaf between Safa and Marwa." So Allah revealed: 'Verily; (the mountains) As-Safa and Al-Marwa are among the symbols of Allah.' " Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa) added, "Surely, Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) set the tradition of Tawaf between Safa and Marwa, so nobody is allowed to omit the Tawaf between them." Later on I ('Urwa) told Abu Bakr bin 'Abdur-Rahman (of 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa)'s narration) and he said, 'i have not heard of such information, but I heard learned men saying that all the people, except those whom 'Aisha mentioned and who used to assume lhram for the sake of Manat, used to perform Tawaf between Safa and Marwa.
When Allah referred to the Tawaf of the Ka'ba and did not mention Safa and Marwa in the Quran, the people asked, 'O Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)! We used to perform Tawaf between Safa and Marwa and Allah has revealed (the verses concerning) Tawaf of the Ka'ba and has not mentioned Safa and Marwa. Is there any harm if we perform Tawaf between Safa and Marwa?' So Allah revealed: "Verily As-Safa and Al-Marwa are among the symbols of Allah." Abu Bakr said, "It seems that this verse was revealed concerning the two groups, those who used to refrain from Tawaf between Safa and Marwa in the Pre-lslamic Period of ignorance and those who used to perform the Tawaf then, and after embracing Islam they refrained from the Tawaf between them as Allah had enjoined Tawaf of the Ka'ba and did not mention Tawaf (of Safa and Marwa) till later after mentioning the Tawaf of the Ka'ba.'

(158. Verily, As-Safa and Al-Marwah are of the symbols of Allah. So it is not a sin on him who performs Hajj or `Umrah (pilgrimage) of the House to perform Tawaf between them. And whoever does good voluntarily, then verily, Allah is All-Recognizer, All-Knower).
Empty Mas`aa <3 [Umrah '11]
Empty Mas`aa <3 [`Umrah '11]
The Hadith above is mentioned by Imam Ibn Kathir in his tafsir of this ayah. He further says:
Ash-Sha`bi said, "Isaf (an idol) was on As-Safa while Na'ilah (an idol) was on Al-Marwah, and they used to touch (or kiss) them. After Islam came, they were hesitant about performing Tawaf between them. Thereafter, the Ayah (2:158 above) was revealed.''
Muslim recorded a long Hadith in his Sahih from Jabir, in which Allah's Messenger finished the Tawaf around the House, and then went back to the Rukn (pillar, i.e., the Black Stone) and kissed it. He then went out from the door near As-Safa while reciting:

﴿إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَآئِرِ اللَّهِ﴾

(Verily, As-Safa and Al-Marwah are of the symbols of Allah.) The Prophet then said, (I start with what Allah has commanded me to start with ﴿meaning start the Sa`i (i.e., fast walking) from the As-Safa﴾). In another narration of An-Nasa'i, the Prophet said, (Start with what Allah has started with (i.e., As-Safa).)
Imam Ahmad reported that Habibah bint Abu Tajrah said, "I saw Allah's Messenger performing Tawaf between As-Safa and Al-Marwah, while the people were in front of him and he was behind them walking in Sa`i. I saw his garment twisted around his knees because of the fast walking in Sa`i (he was performing) and he was reciting:

«اسْعَوْا فَإِنَّ اللهَ كَتَبَ عَلَيْكُمُ السَّعْي».

(Perform Sa`i, for Allah has prescribed Sa`i on you.)'''
This Hadith was used as a proof for the fact that Sa`i is a Rukn of Hajj. It was also said that Sa`i is Wajib, and not a Rukn of Hajj and that if one does not perform it by mistake or by intention, he could expiate the shortcoming with Damm. Allah has stated that Tawaf between As-Safa and Al-Marwah is among the symbols of Allah, meaning, among the acts that Allah legislated during the Hajj for Prophet Ibrahim.

Ka`bah to be Demolished Once More (Hadith No. 1361)

Bismillah.
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 661:
Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaahu `anhu):
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "Dhus-Suwaiqa-tain (literally: One with two lean legs) from Ethiopia will demolish the Ka'ba."
This Hadith talks about the end of times, when people will have forgotten the Quran altogether, and there'll be no khayr (good) on Earth. The time when Ka`bah will also be removed from Earth, as it is also 'good'. Black/Ethiopian people will rise to power and it'll be one among them who'll demolish the Ka`bah. And Allah knows best.

Crush , Infatuation, Affair... The World of Broken Hearts by Nisaar Y. Nadiadwala

I received a message from a school girl.  She claims she has a  CRUSH on her male teacher. The poor fellow thinks that she is in love and confesses that she does everything to please her male teacher. She dresses up neatly, she completes her journal. She always appreciates her teacher ... But later she came to know that her crush is already engaged with many girls. So  now she has a broken heart, frustrated, depressed , unable to focus on studies and always a sad and a gloomy mood accompanies her. This young girl is not the only girl to have crush on her senior.  She may not be from a highly liberated environment. It can be that she may come from a modest practicing Muslim family.

Most of the times, a crush is a one sided attraction followed by day dreaming and fantasy love story. giving a tickling tickling feeling when one hides her /his face in the pillow and takes a tour of the world of  rosy thoughts that may never turn to be true. ' Crush' means a 'temporary liking'. So when you're referring to crush on someone, mind well that it exactly  does in the end- it crushes you. If you have a crush, your heart will not tolerate your crush to even smile or talk to  any of your gender and in the end you will find  your heart, dreams, fantasies crushed by the truthful reality.

The dictionary meaning of infatuation is : "A foolish, unreasoning, or extravagant passion or attraction"

The dictionary meaning of crush is : "An intense but usually short-lived infatuation"

Teens find romance and affairs everywhere around them. In schools they hear romantic stories about  teachers and students going around. In novels  they read about an average looking girl falling in love with a  good looking princely man and end up marrying him living happily after.  In movies and serials they see young and aged, rich and poor, rough and soft , every type of people having girl friends and boyfriends so they develop a desire to taste it. Affairs are circulated everywhere from  TV serials to gossip columns, Campus to corporate offices, Head lines to cover stories, slums and  palaces..Everybody seems to be into it so nobody wants to raise an eyebrow on that.

But rarely people find stories of broken hearts. In TV serials they show it,  but they compensate the girl with another better looking  boy. There is not a single movie or TV serial or Chat show where a central character is made to realize that it was foolish to fall into it . Falling in and out of affair is very common now a days. There are no tablets and syrups to treat broken hearts. Nor can they be treated with surgery. In a failed affair it is the girl who undergoes a huge pain in heart.

In real life ,  in many cases the boys end up saying :
  • I am sorry , I will marry a girl my Mom chooses for me
  • I saw you talking to other boys so your character is not trustworthy
  • We were just friends but you went too deep
  • I cant  marry you till I get settled.
The dictionary meaning of love is : "A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness" . The definition is correct, but it cannot be found  before wedding if it is a genuine. People can fake love through gifts, valentine cards, humour, rose day and birthday cards...and the poor girl may get carried away.Girls must realize that love cant be searched on your own. Allah says He has put love and affection in your spouse's heart.. and spouses are not those whom you pick up on facebook and  class rooms and neighbourhood but they are the one who are approved by your guardian.

The world of broken hearts is more painful than the world of broken bones because there is no plastering on hearts. No X-ray can  can show the rift in the heart.. No cardiogram can  give an ECG report of the spiritual pain of a broken heart. NO actor can fake a painful role..because a broken heart has no tongue that will scream nor can blood gush out after an affair has been broken. It is felt within..So be careful before you leap into some one's heart..NO wonder why the Qur'an says : Do not go close to Zina ( Introduction to namahram, receiving compliments from co workers, neghbours and classmates, checking of profiles of Namahram....)

Between Suhoor and Fajr (Hadith No. 934)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 235:
Narrated Qatada:
Anas bin Malik said, "The Prophet (p.b.u.h) and Zaid bin Thabit took their Suhur together. When they finished it, the Prophet stood for the (Fajr) prayer and offered it." We asked Anas, "What was the interval between their finishing the Suhur and the starting of the morning prayer?" Anas replied, "It was equal to the time taken by a person in reciting fifty verses of the Quran."

So about 8-10 minutes, they waited for Fajr. Maybe they finished their suhoor early and it wasn't time for Fajr yet. Or maybe they were preparing for Salah (doing wudu), or making du`a, or just having a conversation. Could be anything.

Point is, they waited for Fajr after suhoor.
Wassalam.

Sajdah of Tilawat in Surah an-Najm (Ahadith 875 - 878)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 19, Number 176:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Masud:
The Prophet recited Surat-an-Najm (53) and prostrated while reciting it and all the people prostrated and a man amongst the people took a handful of stones or earth and raised it to his face and said, "This is sufficient for me." Later on I saw him killed as a non-believer.

Hadith covered before, here.

Volume 2, Book 19, Number 177:
Narrated Ibn Abbas:
The Prophet (SAW) prostrated while reciting An-Najm and with him prostrated the Muslims, the pagans, the jinns, and all human beings.

The ayah of Surah an-Najm where Sajdah of Tilawat was performed:

فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا ۩

"So fall you down in prostration to Allah and worship Him (Alone)." [An-Najm: 62]

Volume 2, Book 19, Number 178:
Narrated 'Ata' bin Yasar:
I asked Zaid bin Thabit about prostration on which he said that he had recited An-Najm before the Prophet, yet he (the Prophet) had not performed a prostration.

Volume 2, Book 19, Number 179:
Narrated Zaid bin Thabit:
I recited An-Najm before the Prophet, yet he did not perform a prostration.

Note that in the above two Ahadith, Zayd ibn Thabit is reciting and Prophet (SAW) is listening. Hence, Prophet (SAW) did not prostrate (perform Sajdah of Tilawat). But in the Ahadith above these two, Prophet (SAW) was reciting it himself, and he did perform the sajdah.

We mentioned before that performing Sajdah of Tilawat is not mandatory.
Sujood al-tilaawah, whether during prayer or outside of it, is Sunnah, not obligatory, because evidence to that effect was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), in the hadeeth of Zayd ibn Thaabit and in the hadeeth of ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him).

Prayer for Rain: Misc. (Ahadith 834 - 839)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 17, Number 834:
Narrated Abbas bin Tamim
that his uncle (who was one of the companions of the Prophet) had told him, "The Prophet went out with the people to invoke Allah for rain for them. He stood up and invoked Allah for rain, then faced the Qibla and turned his cloak (inside out) and it rained."

Volume 2, Book 17, Number 835:
Narrated Abbas bin Tamim
from his uncle who said, "The Prophet went out to invoke Allah for rain. He faced the Qibla invoking Allah. He turned over his cloak (inside out) and then offered two Rakat and recited the Quran aloud in them."

Volume 2, Book 17, Number 836:
Narrated Abbas bin Tamim from his uncle,
"I saw the Prophet on the day when he went out to offer the Istisqa' prayer. He turned his back towards the people and faced the Qibla and asked Allah for rain. Then he turned his cloak inside out and led us in a two Rakat prayer and recited the Qur'an aloud in them."

Volume 2, Book 17, Number 837:
Narrated Abbas bin Tamlm from his uncle who said,
"The Prophet invoked Allah for rain and offered a two Rakat prayer and he put his cloak inside out."

Volume 2, Book 17, Number 838:
Narrated Abbas bin Tamim from his uncle who said,
"The Prophet went out to the Musalla to offer the Istisqa' prayer, faced the Qibla and offered a two-Rakat prayer and turned his cloak inside out." Narrated Abu Bakr, "The Prophet put the right side of his cloak on his left side."

Volume 2, Book 17, Number 839:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Zaid Al-Ansari:
The Prophet went out towards the Musalla in order to offer the Istisqa' prayer and when he intended to invoke (Allah) or started invoking, he faced the Qibla and turned his cloak inside out.

So we learn that:
  1. Prophet (SAW) did go out in the open to pray for rain,
  2. He did face the qiblah,
  3. He prayed two rak`aat.
  4. He recited Qur'an aloud in them.
  5. And turned his cloak inside-out (putting the right side of his cloak on his left side).
Learn more about the method of performing the Istisqaa' prayer herehere, and here.
Wassalam.
