The Original Ka`bah (Ahadith 1353 - 1356)


Bismillah.
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 653:
Narrated 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa):
(the wife of the Prophet) that Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said to her, "Do you know that when your people (Quraish) rebuilt the Ka'ba, they decreased it from its original foundation laid by Abraham (`alayhissalaam)?" I said, "O Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)! Why don't you rebuild it on its original foundation laid by Abraham (`alayhissalaam)?" He replied, "Were it not for the fact that your people are close to the pre-lslamic Period of ignorance (i.e. they have recently become Muslims) I would have done so." The sub-narrator, 'Abdullah (bin 'Umar) (radiallaahu `anhu) stated: 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa) 'must have heard this from Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) for in my opinion Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) had not placed his hand over the two corners of the Ka'ba opposite Al-Hijr only because the Ka'ba was not rebuilt on its original foundations laid by Abraham (`alayhissalaam).
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 654:
Narrated 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa):
I asked the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) whether the round wall (near Ka'ba) was part of the Ka'ba. The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) replied in the affirmative. I further said, "What is wrong with them, why have they not included it in the building of the Ka'ba?" He said, "Don't you see that your people (Quraish) ran short of money (so they could not include it inside the building of Ka'ba)?" I asked, "What about its gate? Why is it so high?" He replied, "Your people did this so as to admit into it whomever they liked and prevent whomever they liked. Were your people not close to the Pre-lslamic Period of ignorance (i.e. they have recently embraced Islam) and were I not afraid that they would dislike it, surely I would have included the (area of the) wall inside the building of the Ka'ba and I would have lowered its gate to the level of the ground."
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 655:
Narrated 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said to me, "Were your people not close to the Pre-lslamic period of ignorance, I would have demolished the Ka'ba and would have rebuilt it on its original foundations laid by Abraham (`alayhissalaam) (for Quraish had curtailed its building), and I would have built a back door (too)."
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 656:
Narrated Yazid bin Ruman from 'Urwa (radiallaahu `anhu):
'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa) said that the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said to her, "O Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa)! Were your nation not close to the Pre-lslamic Period of Ignorance, I would have had the Ka'ba demolished and would have included in it the portion which had been left, and would have made it at a level with the ground and would have made two doors for it, one towards the east and the other towards the west, and then by doing this it would have been built on the foundations laid by Abraham (`alayhissalaam)." That was what urged Ibn-Az-Zubair to demolish the Ka'ba. Jazz said, "I saw Ibn-Az-Zubair when he demolished and rebuilt the Ka'ba and included in it a portion of Al-Hijr (the unroofed portion of Ka'ba which is at present in the form of a compound towards the north-west of the Ka'ba). I saw the original foundations of Abraham (`alayhissalaam) which were of stones resembling the humps of camels." So Jarir asked Yazid, "Where was the place of those stones?" Jazz said, "I will just now show it to you." So Jarir accompanied Yazid and entered Al-Hijr, and Jazz pointed to a place and said, "Here it is." Jarir said, "It appeared to me about six cubits from Al-Hijr or so."
Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)'s wisdom is unmatched! He avoided SUCH a big fitna by letting the Ka`bah be as it was. If only we were to deal with people and situations with enough wisdom. Most of the fasaad(s) are among the consequences of our own (non-wisdom-ful) actions.
May Allah give us hikmah (wisdom) and sabr (patience)!

Knowing People (Hadith No. 743)


Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 743:
Narrated 'Amr bin Taghlib:
Some property or something was brought to Allah's Apostle and he distributed it. He gave to some men and ignored the others. Later he got the news of his being admonished by those whom he had ignored. So he glorified and praised Allah and said, "Amma ba'du. By Allah, I may give to a man and ignore another, although the one whom I ignore is more beloved to me than the one whom I give. But I give to some people as I feel that they have no patience and no contentment in their hearts and I leave those who are patient and self-contented with the goodness and wealth which Allah has put into their hearts and 'Amr bin Taghlib is one of them." Amr added, By Allah! Those words of Allah's Apostle are more beloved to me than the best red camels.

SubhanAllah. I advise you to go through the narration once more to grasp the true meaning, because I might fall short of words while expressing my thoughts..

There are two kinds of people mentioned here:
  1. those who have no patience and no contentment in their hearts,
  2. those who are patient and self-contented with the goodness and wealth which Allah has put into their hearts.
Prophet (SAW) was a very wise man. He knew how to deal with different kinds of people. So he distributed the wealth/piece of land among the first category to incline them more towards Islam, and ignored the second category because he knew they'll be content and happy even if they're not given more of the worldly wealth. They'll continue to serve Islam willingly anyway..


And `Amr bin Taghlib. This man was praised by the Prophet (SAW), and he knew the true value of those words. So he said:
By Allah! Those words of Allah's Apostle are more beloved to me than the best red camels.
SubhanAllah. :)
Question: do we know how to deal with different kinds of people that we interact with daily, without offending them?

Deriving Lessons from Hadith (Hadith No. 822)


Salam,
Bismillah.
These are repeats: Ahadith 818, 819, 820 and 821.

Prophet (SAW) was a perfect man. His words and actions were full of wisdom. Surely we have a lot  to learn from him. Everyone can derive lessons from a simple Hadith according to his/her level of understanding. A child will learn something from a Hadith, an adult will learn two or three things from that same Hadith. Whereas doctors, engineers, psychologists, nutritionists, lawyers, fuqahaa', businessmen will all have a different approach to that one Hadith.


This is why while going through Bukhari, it's weird that some Ahadith (apparently) have no connection with the chapter they're written under. And that one Hadith is repeated around 20 times (more or less) in different chapters But it makes one realize how deep Imam Bukhari's understanding was, that he could derive so many lessons from one Hadith. MashaAllah. May Allah have mercy on him, and grant him Jannat-ul-Firdaws. And may He grant me a chance to meet him in Jannah as well. <3
So I'll study today's Hadith, and try to derive as many lessons as possible. You give it a shot as well!

Volume 1, Book 12, Number 822:
Narrated 'Abdur Rahman bin 'Abis:
A person asked Ibn Abbas, "Have you ever presented yourself at the ('Id) prayer with Allah's Apostle?" He replied, "Yes." And had it not been for my kinship (position) with the Prophet it would not have been possible for me to do so (for he was too young). The Prophet went to the mark near the house of Kathir bin As-Salt and delivered a sermon. He then went towards the women. He advised and reminded them and asked them to give alms. So the woman would bring her hand near her neck and take off her necklace and put it in the garment of Bilal. Then the Prophet and Bilal came to the house."
  • One learns a lot by asking questions. Develop the habit! BUT, avoid pointless questions.
  • Good company will lead to good influence, and eventually good deeds inshaAllah.
  • Take your family along while going for `Id prayer. Men, women, boys, girls are all encouraged to gather for `Id prayer.
  • Teaching women is important. Teaching them 'especially' is important as well (hint: sisters-only halaqahs). They're the mothers of the Ummah. They're awesome like that. :)
  • It is permissible to ask for donations - for a good cause.
I can't think of anything else right now. Can you?

They Have a Right to Know (Hadith No. 772)

Bismillah.
Hadith no. 771 is a repeat. It's about the position of arms during Sajdah.

 Volume 1, Book 12, Number 772:
Narrated Abu Wail:
Hudhaifa said, "I saw a person not performing his bowing and prostrations perfectly. When he completed the prayer, I told him that he had not prayed." I think that Hudhaifa added (i.e. said to the man), "Had you died, you would have died on a tradition other than that of the Prophet Muhammad."

How many of us have the courage to point out something wrong when we see it? We either shy away, or keep thinking of a way to go about it, or ignore it deeming the time unsuitable, or fear a backfire from the concerned person(s).

Look at what Hudhaifa (RA) does here. He sees a random person performing Salah incorrectly, he goes up to him after he's finished and simply tells him what he's done wrong. SubhanAllah, the simplicity and ease!
One thing we should make a note of: Hudhaifa (RA) was a sahabi, not an ordinary person. He had more knowledge and authority than most. So if he was being straight forward, he wasn't being harsh or offensive. On the other hand, when we (ordinary people) have to correct someone, let's avoid being blunt, unless you're sure the person won't mind. You see, if you go straight to a person telling them their prayer won't be accepted because they did so and so, they'll get offended. And you might not like their reaction. Even worse, you'll be responsible for turning someone away from the Deen.

So, one word: hikmah!

Where did the wisdom go?

Assalaam U Alykum WR WB!

I often wonder, where did the wisdom go? Today I see people around me (including me) and I feel something is missing, something which can change the entire system at least! We have become followers! If someone says something, we believe without giving it a second thought.

We believe what we see, hear and are told! We do what we are told to do without knowing or thinking, it might be bad for us! Our parents taught us not to believe or trust anyone until you know him well but still why is it that we do not think before trusting anyone? Should we trust everyone? Should we trust those who are our enemies? Should we trust a small box in our homes? Where did the wisdom go?

We follow trends, fashion, and all the traditions but did we ever think are they acceptable? We ave a criteria, do these things fall in that criteria? Oh! Whats criteria? Did we ever know? Or is it the headache of masjid mullaans or scholars?

Its kind of funny that we chase those things which we can NEVER grab? I'll repeat, where did the wisdom go? Why is it that we admire the life style of those who are miserable, while we want to get out of "sakoon" to find "sakoon"! We are following the stars in the sea! We'll drown eventually but still we want to proceed, get going! Where is the wisdom? Can anyone tell me few things which snatched our wisdom from us and made us like Cattle as described by the Quran?
