Ar-Rayyan (Ahadith 1615 - 1616)

Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 31, Number 120:
Narrated Sahl (radiallaahu `anhu):
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe fasts?' They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it."
Imagine being there. Imagine the angels at Ar-Rayyan (gate of Paradise) calling out YOUR name. Imagine feeling so special. <3

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 121:
Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaahu `anhu):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "Whoever gives two kinds (of things or property) in charity for Allah's Cause, will be called from the gates of Paradise and will be addressed, 'O slaves of Allah! Here is prosperity.' So, whoever was amongst the people who used to offer their prayers, will be called from the gate of the prayer; and whoever was amongst the people who used to participate in Jihad, will be called from the gate of Jihad; and whoever was amongst those who used to observe fasts, will be called from the gate of Ar-Raiyan; whoever was amongst those who used to give in charity, will be called from the gate of charity." Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) said, "Let my parents be sacrificed for you, O Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)! No distress or need will befall him who will be called from those gates. Will there be any one who will be called from all these gates?" The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) replied, "Yes, and I hope you will be one of them."
A person can get his name in three lists easily, I suppose. If he prays, fasts and gives charity regularly, he'll be called out from three gates. Isn't that awesome? Imagine being there. Imagine thinking which gate to enter from.. <3
And who can compete with Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) in good deeds? May Allah make us more like him.

Madinah Expels Bad People (Hadith No. 1590)

Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 30, Number 95:
Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaahu `anhu):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "I was ordered to migrate to a town which will swallow (conquer) other towns and is called Yathrib and that is Medina, and it turns out (bad) persons as a furnace removes the impurities of iron.
So bad people can't live in Madinah.. and whoever is living or has lived there has good in them.. Wow, lucky (of good qismat/sa`eed) people! Makes me want to stay there forever. May Allah give me the sa`aadah. <3
I wonder if the residents of Madinah allowed to brag about it.. :P

Hajj of Boys (Ahadith 1575 - 1578)

Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 29, Number 80:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) sent me (to Mina) with the luggage from Jam' (i.e. Al-Muzdalifa) at night.

Volume 3, Book 29, Number 81:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):
I came riding on my she-ass and had (just) then attained the age of puberty. Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) was praying at Mina. I passed in front of a part of the first row and then dismounted from it, and the animal started grazing. I aligned with the people behind Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) (The sub-narrator added that happened in Mina during the Prophet's Hajjat-ul-wada.)

Volume 3, Book 29, Number 82:
Narrated As-Sa'ib bin Yazid (radiallaahu `anhu):
(While in the company of my parents) I was made to perform Hajj with Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) and I was a seven-year-old boy then.

Volume 3, Book 29, Number 83:
Narrated Al-Ju'aid bin 'AbdurRahman:
I heard 'Umar bin 'Abdul Aziz telling about As-Sa'ib bin Yazid that he had performed Hajj (while carried) with the belongings of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam).
Children who have not yet reached the age of puberty will be rewarded for the good deeds they do. Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with them both), said: “A woman lifted up a child and said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, will his Hajj (pilgrimage) be counted?’ He said, ‘Yes, and you will be rewarded.’” [Muslim]
The author of Mawaahib al-Jaleel said, concerning children entering ihraam (sacred state) for Hajj and ‘Umrah:
“The scholars do not differ concerning the fact that children will be rewarded for whatever acts of obedience (to Allaah) they do, and will be let off for any bad deeds that they do, and any bad deeds they do deliberately will be counted as mistakes. It says in Mukhtasar al-Waadihah: ‘Hajj is not an obligation for boys and girls until boys reach puberty and girls begin menstruating, but there is nothing wrong with taking them for Hajj. It is recommended (mustahabb), and the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did so.’”
Then he reported that Talhah ibn Musarrif said: “It was one of the customs of the Muslims to take their children for Hajj and expose them to the mercy of Allaah.”
Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr said in al-Tamheed that it is encouraged to take children for Hajj, and that the majority of scholars say this. He also said: “It is nothing strange that a child should earn reward and status in the Hereafter for his salaah (prayers), zakaah (paying poor-due), Hajj and other good deeds if he does them as they should be done, (because this is) grace and mercy from Allaah, just as Allaah shows mercy to the dead by rewarding them for acts of charity done on their behalf by the living. Do you not see that they (the scholars) are agreed that a child should be commanded to pray when he reaches the age of understanding and that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) led Anas and the orphan in prayer? Most of the salaf (pious predecessors) said that zakaah has to be paid on the property of orphans, and it is impossible that they would not be rewarded for that. Their guardians and the one who does this on their behalf will also certainly be rewarded, as will the one who takes them for Hajj, as a blessing and mercy from Allaah. It was reported that ‘Umar said: ‘Children’s good deeds will be recorded and their bad deeds will not be recorded.’ I do not know of anyone whose opinion is worth following who said anything to the contrary.”

The Hidden Message in Good Deeds (Hadith No. 1411)

Bismillah.
Hadith no. 1407 (below) is a repeat. Read it here.
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 707:
Narrated Nafi':
Ibn 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) said, "When Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) performed the first Tawaf he did Ramal in the first three rounds and then walked in the remaining four rounds (of Tawaf of the Ka'ba), where as in performing Tawaf between Safa and Marwa he used to run in the midst of the rain-water passage," I asked Nafi', "Did 'Abdullah (bin 'Umar) (radiallaahu `anhu) use to walk steadily on reaching the Yemenite Corner?" He replied, "No, unless people were crowded at the Corner; otherwise he would not leave it without touching it."
Hadith no. 1408 (below) is also a repeat. Read it here.
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 708:
Narrated 'Amr bin Dinar:
We asked Ibn 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) whether a man who, while performing 'Umra, had performed Tawaf of the Ka'ba; and had not yet performed Tawaf between Safa and Marwa, could have sexual relation with his wife, Ibn 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) replied "The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) reached Mecca and performed the seven rounds (of Tawaf) of the Ka'ba and then offered a two-Rakat prayer behind Maqam ibrahim and then performed the seven rounds (of Tawaf) between Safa and Marwa." He added, "Verily! In Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) you have a good example." We asked Jabir bin 'Abdullah (radiallaahu `anhu) (the same question) and he said, "He (that man) should not come near (his wife) till he has completed Tawaf between Safa and Marwa."
Hadith no. 1409 (below) is also a repeat. Read it here.
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 709:
Narrated 'Amr bin Dinar:
I heard Ibn 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) saying, "The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) arrived at Mecca and performed Tawaf of the Ka'ba and then offered a two-Rakat prayer and then performed Tawaf between Safa and Marwa." Ibn 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) then recited (the verse): "Verily! In Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) you have a good example. "
Hadith no. 1410 (below) is a repeat as well. Read it here.
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 710:
Narrated 'Asim:
I asked Anas bin Malik (radiallaahu `anhu): "Did you use to dislike to perform Tawaf between Safa and Marwa?" He said, "Yes, as it was of the ceremonies of the days of the Pre-lslamic period of ignorance, till Allah revealed: 'Verily! (The two mountains) As-Safa and Al-Marwa are among the symbols of Allah. It is therefore no sin for him who performs the pilgrimage to the Ka'ba, or performs 'Umra, to perform Tawaf between them.' " (2.158)

Today's Hadith:

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 711:
Narrated Ibn Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) performed Tawaf of the Ka'ba and the Sa'i of Safa and Marwa so as to show his strength to the pagans.
Strength was shown to let the pagans know that it is indeed the Kalimah of Allah that is supreme. It wasn't done to show the supremacy of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) or the Muslims in general.
And that's how it's supposed to be. Any good that we do should be to establish Allah's Supremacy, not our own. Anything we do as Muslims should tell the Kuffaar how awesome our Rabb and Deen are, not how cool 'we' are. Take the 'me, myself and I' out of the equation and there you have it, the purpose of your life.

Good News for Converts! (Hadith No. 1176)

Bismillah.
Hadith no. 1175 (below) is a repeat. Read it here.
Volume 2, Book 24, Number 516:
Narrated Abu Wail:
Hudhaifa said, "'Umar said, 'Who amongst you remembers the statement of Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) about afflictions'?' I said, 'I know it as the Prophet had said it.' 'Umar said, 'No doubt, you are bold. How did he say it?' I said, 'A man's afflictions (wrong deeds) concerning his wife, children and neighbors are expiated by (his) prayers, charity, and enjoining good.' (The sub-narrator Sulaiman added that he said, 'The prayer, charity, enjoining good and forbidding evil.') 'Umar said, 'I did not mean that, but I ask about that affliction which will spread like the waves of the sea.' I said, 'O chief of the believers! You need not be afraid of it as there is a closed door between you and it.' He asked, 'Will the door be broken or opened?' I replied, 'No, it will be broken.' He said, 'Then, if it is broken, it will never be closed again?' I replied, 'Yes.' " Then we were afraid to ask what that door was, so we asked Masruq to inquire, and he asked Hudhaifa regarding it. Hudhaifa said, "The door was 'Umar. "We further asked Hudhaifa whether 'Umar knew what that door meant. Hudhaifa replied in the affirmative and added, "He knew it as one knows that there will be a night before the tomorrow morning."

Today's Hadith:

We get to know how a person gets all his past sins removed when he converts to Islam. That's that. But what about the good that he used to do? Will he be rewarded for that or is that deleted as well along with the sins? Or does he get rewarded for it?
Volume 2, Book 24, Number 517:
Narrated Hakim bin Hizam (radiallaahu `anhu):
I said to Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam), "Before embracing Islam I used to do good deeds like giving in charity, slave-manumitting, and the keeping of good relations with Kith and kin. Shall I be rewarded for those deeds?" The Prophet replied, "You became Muslim with all those good deeds (Without losing their reward)."
Awesome, right? That's Mercy! Special mercy Allah bestows on His believing slaves. L.O.V.E.

Another Trait of Hypocrisy (Hadith No. 1195)

Bismillah.
Narrated Abu Masud:
When the verses of charity were revealed, we used to work as porters. A man came and distributed objects of charity in abundance. And they (the people) said, "He is showing off." And another man came and gave a sa' (a small measure of food grains); they said, "Allah is not in need of this small amount of charity." And then the Divine Inspiration came: "Those who criticize such of the believers who give in charity voluntarily and those who could not find to give in charity except what is available to them." (9.79).
From Tafsir Ibn Kathir:
Among the traits of the hypocrites is that they will not leave anyone without defaming and ridiculing him in all circumstances even those who give away charity. If, for instance, someone gives away a large amount, the hypocrites say that he is showing off. If someone gives away a small amount they say that Allah stands not in need of this man's charity. Al-Bukhari recorded that `Ubaydullah bin Sa`id said that Abu An-Nu`man Al-Basri said that Shu`bah narrated that Sulayman said that Abu Wa'il said that Abu Mas`ud said, "When the verses of charity were revealed, we used to work as porters. A man came and distributed objects of charity in abundance and they (hypocrites) said, `He is showing off.' Another man came and gave a Sa` (a small measure of food grains); they said, `Allah is not in need of this small amount of charity.' Then the Ayah was revealed;

﴿الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ﴾

(Those who defame the volunteers...)'' Muslim collected this Hadith in the Sahih. Al-`Awfi narrated that Ibn `Abbas said, "One day, the Messenger of Allah went out to the people and called them to bring forth their charity, and they started bringing their charity. Among the last to come forth was a man who brought a Sa` of dates, saying, `O Allah's Messenger! This is a Sa` of dates. I spent the night bringing water and earned two Sa` of dates for my work. I kept one Sa` and brought you the other Sa`. ' The Messenger of Allah ordered him to add it to the charity. Some men mocked that man, saying, `Allah and His Messenger are not in need of this charity. What benefit would this Sa` of yours bring' `Abdur-Rahman bin `Awf asked Allah's Messenger , `Are there any more people who give charity' The Messenger of Allah said,

«لَمْ يَبْقَ أَحَدٌ غَيْرُك»

(None besides you!) `Abdur-Rahman bin `Awf said, `I will give a hundred Uqiyah of gold as a charity.' `Umar bin Al-Khattab said to him, `Are you crazy' `Abdur-Rahman said, `I am not crazy.' `Umar said, `Have you given what you said would give' `Abdur-Rahman said, `Yes. I have eight thousand (Dirhams), four thousand I give as a loan to my Lord and four thousand I keep for myself.' The Messenger of Allah said,

«بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكَ فِيمَا أَمْسَكْتَ وَفِيمَا أَعْطَيْت»

(May Allah bless you for what you kept and what you gave away). However, the hypocrites defamed him, `By Allah! `Abdur-Rahman gave what he gave just to show off.' They lied, for `Abdur-Rahman willingly gave that money, and Allah revealed about his innocence and the innocence of the fellow who was poor and brought only a Sa` of dates. Allah said in His Book,

﴿الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الصَّدَقَـتِ﴾

(Those who defame such of the believers who give charity voluntarily) ﴿9:79﴾.''' A similar story was narrated from Mujahid and several others. Ibn Ishaq said, "Among the believers who gave away charity were `Abdur-Rahman bin `Awf who gave four thousand Dirhams and `Asim bin `Adi from Bani `Ajlan. This occurred after the Messenger of Allah encouraged and called for paying charity. `Abdur-Rahman bin `Awf stood and gave away four thousand Dirhams. `Asim bin `Adi also stood and gave a hundred Wasaq of dates, but some people defamed them, saying, `They are showing off.' As for the person who gave the little that he could afford, he was Abu `Aqil, from Bani Anif Al-Arashi, who was an ally of Bani `Amr bin `Awf. He brought a Sa` of dates and added it to the charity. They laughed at him, saying, `Allah does not need the Sa` of Abu `Aqil.''' Allah said,

﴿فَيَسْخَرُونَ مِنْهُمْ سَخِرَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُمْ﴾

(so they mock at them (believers); Allah will throw back their mockery on them) rebuking them for their evil actions and defaming the believers. Truly, the reward, or punishment, is equitable to the action. Allah treated them the way mocked people are treated, to aid the believers in this life. Allah has prepared a painful torment in the Hereafter for the hypocrites, for the recompense is similar to the deed.
Do you see the kind of behavior hypocrites had shown? Belittling, defaming and ridiculing others as if they knew what was in their hearts. As if they knew their intentions to be insincere.
It's a HUGE thing to judge someone. It is so disliked by Allah that He revealed verses in the Qur'an for it, protecting the honor of the Sahaba who has spent in His way. He dislikes this trait of hypocrisy so much that he forbade Prophet (SAW) from asking forgiveness for the hypocrites, right in the next verse:

(80. Whether you (O Muhammad ) ask forgiveness for them (hypocrites) or ask not forgiveness for them -- (and even) if you ask seventy times for their forgiveness -- Allah will not forgive them because they have disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger. And Allah guides not those people who are rebellious.)
Bottom line: don't judge people. Don't try to defame anyone. Especially the believers. You don't know how beloved that person is to Allah. And if you hurt them, Allah might protect them.
Note: if you think you have this trait, try to fix it. Think good about people. Make 70 excuses for them before thinking bad about them. "Maybe he didn't mean to..", "Maybe he didn't know.." etc. Reflect on your own faults and flaws before looking at others'.
And if you think someone you know has this problem. Stop right there! You're being judgmental again. :P
