Most Superior Charity II (Ahadith 1166 - 1167)


Bismillah.
Volume 2, Book 24, Number 507:
Narrated Abu Huraira :
The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, "The best charity is that which is practiced by a wealthy person. And start giving first to your dependents."
Volume 2, Book 24, Number 508:
Narrated Hakim bin Hizam
The Prophet said, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand (i.e. he who gives in charity is better than him who takes it). One should start giving first to his dependents. And the best object of charity is that which is given by a wealthy person (from the money which is left after his expenses). And whoever abstains from asking others for some financial help, Allah will give him and save him from asking others, Allah will make him self-sufficient."
  • Best time to give in charity: when you're wealthy.
  • Best people you can spend on: your family.
  • Upper hand is better the lower hand (giving is better than taking).
  • No begging for financial help.

Ways to Do Sadaqah (Hadith No. 862)


Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Hadith no. 861 is a repeat. It's about one of the questions that we'll be asked in our grave. Must read!

Volume 2, Book 18, Number 862:
Narrated Asma:
No doubt the Prophet ordered people to manumit slaves during the solar eclipse.

Manumitting (freeing) slaves is sadaqah (charity). It's one of those things that Prophet (SAW) did or ordered to do during eclipse. See here.
There's no slaves today (as far as I know) that we can free as sadaqah, but there's a lot more that we can do. And we're talking monetary sadaqah. Any examples you can think of?
