Types of I`tikaaf (Hadith No. 1743)

Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 33, Number 248:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu):
Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) asked the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) "I vowed in the Pre-lslamic period of ignorance to stay in Itikaf for one night in Al-Masjid al-Haram." The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said to him, "Fulfill your vow."
There are three main types of I`tikaaf:
  1. WAJIB: To vow or pledge to make I'tikaaf (on a fixed day) for the sake of Allah upon the fulfilment of some wish or desire.
  2. SUNNAT-MUAKKADAH: To reside the last ten nights and days of Ramadhan in the Masjid is Sunnat-Muakkadah, i.e. If a person from the community fulfills the obligation of I'tikaaf, the entire community will be absolved of this sacred duty. Otherwise all the residents will be sinful of neglecting this Sunnah.
  3. MUSTAHAB OR NAFL: This I'tikaaf can be for any amount of time, even for a few minutes.

Taraweeh of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) (Ahadtih 1723 - 1725)

Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 32, Number 228:
Narrated 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) used to pray (at night) in Ramadan.

Volume 3, Book 32, Number 229:
Narrated 'Urwa:
That he was informed by 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa), "Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) went out in the middle of the night and prayed in the mosque and some men prayed behind him. In the morning, the people spoke about it and then a large number of them gathered and prayed behind him (on the second night). In the next morning the people again talked about it and on the third night the mosque was full with a large number of people. Allah's Apostle came out and the people prayed behind him. On the fourth night the Mosque was overwhelmed with people and could not accommodate them, but the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) came out (only) for the morning prayer. When the morning prayer was finished he recited Tashah-hud and (addressing the people) said, "Amma ba'du, your presence was not hidden from me but I was afraid lest the night prayer (Qiyam) should be enjoined on you and you might not be able to carry it on." So, Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) died and the situation remained like that (i.e. people prayed individually). "
This indicates that praying Taraweeh in congregation is prescribed according to the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), but he refrained from doing it because he feared that it would be made obligatory for the ummah. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) died, this reservation was no longer required, because the sharee’ah was established.

Volume 3, Book 32, Number 230:
Narrated Abu Salama bin 'Abdur Rahman:
that he asked 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa) "How was the prayer of Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) in Ramadan?" She replied, "He did not pray more than eleven Rakat in Ramadan or in any other month. He used to pray four Rakat ---- let alone their beauty and length----and then he would pray four ----let alone their beauty and length ----and then he would pray three Rakat (Witr)." She added, "I asked, 'O Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)! Do you sleep before praying the Witr?' He replied, 'O 'Aisha! My eyes sleep but my heart does not sleep."
It is proven in al-Saheeh that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to pray eleven rak’ahs at night in Ramadaan and at other times, but he would make the recitation and other essential parts of the prayer so long that on one occasion he recited more than five juz’ (sipara) in a single rak’ah, reciting slowly and carefully.
And it is proven that he would get up halfway through the night, or shortly before or after that, and he would carry on praying until it was close to dawn, so he would pray thirteen rak’ahs in approximately five hours. This requires making the recitation and other essential parts of the prayer lengthy.
Note: the main focus of our night prayer (inside or outside Ramadan) should be to attain tranquility and to develop a special connection with Allah. There's no point in fighting about the number of rak`ahs of the Taraweeh prayer and there's no point in discussing what Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) did in his time and why he did it, if our night prayer does not bring us any closer towards Allah. Yes, we want to follow the Sunnah when it comes to the number of rak`ahs, but are we going to sideline the Sunnah of making the night prayer lengthy and slow? The latter is definitely more important, won't you agree?

Following Only the Best (Hadith No. 1703)

Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 31, Number 208:
Narrated Alqama:
I asked 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa) "Did Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) use to choose some special days (for fasting)?" She replied, "No, but he used to be regular (constant) (in his service of worshipping). Who amongst you can endure what Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) used to endure?"
And that question makes one shudder. Really. Who can be like the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) when it comes to worship, or akhlaaq, or leadership, or anything? There's not ONE man who supersedes him in any respect. Not even when it comes to suffering hardships. Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) used to feel double the pain even in fever. So Ayesha (radiallaahu `anhu)'s question really hits home, doesn't it? Who amongst you can endure what Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) used to endure?
Having said that, we must not think that since Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) was so perfect, and no one can ever be like him, there's no point in trying to follow his footsteps. Rather, his perfection is the reason why we must follow him. Since there's none better than him, it only makes sense to follow none but him, you see?
May Allah enable us to follow his sunnah in the best manner so we can please Him and him on the Day of Judgement. May we get a spot closest to him in Jannah. May we get the chance to see him and enjoy his nearness and company. May his love only grow in our hearts and lead us to do great things - like him. Sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam. <3

Ramadan: Quran & Spending (Hadith No. 1621)

Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 31, Number 126:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) was the most generous amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan when Gabriel (`alayhissalaam) visited him, and Gabriel (`alayhissalaam) used to meet him on every night of Ramadan till the end of the month. The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) used to recite the Holy Qur'an to Gabriel, and when Gabriel (`alayhissalaam) met him, he used to be more generous than a fast wind (which causes rain and welfare).
Lessons:
  1. The sunnah is to go through the whole Quran in Ramadan. It's the best time of the year. You can do it!
Join online classes if there's no other means.
  2. Spend generously in the cause of Allah. Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) was more generous than 'fast wind' - meaning he would spend a lot and he would spend of whatever he had as soon as he got it.. no delays. And his spending was such that it would benefit others - the poor and the needy.
Here's a nice and funny video I came across relevant to this subject. Do check it out. :)

Hajj - Talbiyah [contd. II] (Ahadith 1445 - 1446)

Bismillah.
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 745:
Narrated Ibn Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) made Al-Fadl (radiallaahu `anhu) ride behind him, and Al-Fadl (radiallaahu `anhu) informed that he (the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)) kept on reciting Talbiya till he did the Rami of the Jamra. (Jamrat-al-Aqaba.)

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 746:
Narrated 'Ubaidullah bin 'Abdullah:
Ibn Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu) said, "Usama bin Zaid (radiallaahu `anhu) rode behind the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) from 'Arafat to Al-Muzdalifa; and then from Al-Muzdalifa to Mina, Al-Fadl (radiallaahu `anhu) rode behind him." He added, "Both of them (Usama (radiallaahu `anhu) and Al-Fadl (radiallaahu `anhu)) said, 'The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) was constantly reciting Talbiya till he did Rami of the Jamarat-al-'Aqaba."
The basic lesson is that Talbiyah is to be recited throughout the days of Hajj, till Rami. We had already established this in earlier posts.
I'd like to point out to something else as well. Did you notice how the companions used to 'stalk' the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam). His smallest movements and actions are reported by them. SubhanAllah, they were the true 'fans' of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam). They were the true lovers. Our love and devotion ends where we've learnt about our faraa'id (obligations). And we have no wish to find out anything beyond that.. his habits, likes and dislikes, his preferences, things that would make him happy/sad/angry. We're no lovers. We're.. losers. -_-

Drinking Zamzam (Hadith No. 1401)

Bismillah.
Volume 2, Book 26, Number 701:
Narrated Ibn Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):
I gave Zam-zam water to Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) and he drank it while standing. 'Asia (a sub-narrator) said that 'Ikrima (radiallaahu `anhu) took the oath that on that day the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) had not been standing but riding a camel.
How to solve this mystery? Did the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) drink Zamzam while sitting or standing? What's sunnah and what's not? Read on..
The fuqaha’ have mentioned the etiquette that is mustahabb (recommended) when drinking Zamzam water, such as facing the Ka’bah, saying Bismillah, pausing to take a breath three times, drinking one’s fill, praising Allaah after one finishes, and sitting whilst drinking it, as one should do when drinking other kinds of drinks. As regards the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said, “I gave the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) Zamzam water to drink whilst he was standing,” (reported by al-Bukhaari, 3/492), it is taken to mean that it is permissible to drink whilst standing, and the disapproval of doing so is understood to mean that it is makrooh. The scholars also recommended that the person who drinks Zamzam water should sprinkle some of it on his head, face and chest, make lots of du’aa’ when drinking it, and to drink it for a purpose that will benefit him in this world or the next, because of the hadeeth in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The water of Zamzam is for whatever purpose it is drunk for.” (Reported by Ibn Maajah, 2/1018; see Al-Maqaasid al-Hasanah by al-Sakhaawi, p. 359).

Double-Checking is a Sunnah (Hadith No. 1276)

Bismillah.
Volume 2, Book 24, Number 576:
Narrated Abu Humaid Al-Sa'idi (radiallaahu `anhu):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) appointed a man called Ibn Al-Lutbiya, from the tribe of Al-Asd to collect Zakat from Bani Sulaim. When he returned, (after collecting the Zakat) the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) checked the account with him.
So double check whatever it is that you assign to someone. Especially money matters. It's a Sunnah!

Giving Du`a - Freebie (Hadith No. 1233)

Bismillah.
Hadith no. 1232 (below) is a repeat. Read it here.
Volume 2, Book 24, Number 573:
Narrated Abu Ma'bad (the slave of Ibn Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu)):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said to Muadh (radiallaahu `anhu) when he sent him to Yemen, "You will go to the people of the Scripture. So, when you reach there, invite them to testify that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah, and that Muhammad (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) is His Apostle. And if they obey you in that, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them five prayers in each day and night. And if they obey you in that tell them that Allah has made it obligatory on them to pay the Zakat which will be taken from the rich among them and given to the poor among them. If they obey you in that, then avoid taking the best of their possessions, and be afraid of the curse of an oppressed person because there is no screen between his invocation and Allah."

Today's Hadith:

Volume 2, Book 24, Number 574i:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abu Aufa (radiallaahu `anhu):
Whenever a person came to the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) with his alms, the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) would say, "O Allah! Send your Blessings upon so and so." My father went to the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) with his alms and the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "O Allah! Send your blessings upon the offspring of Abu Aufa."
Beautiful Sunnah of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam): giving du`a to people. It doesn't take much time, nor effort. Be generous with you words. See how the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) prays for the giver's offspring as well? Seekho kuch!

Morning Routine (Ahadith 955 - 961)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

What do you know about the morning routine of the Prophet (SAW)?

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 256:
Narrated 'Aisha;
Allah's Apostle offered the 'Isha' prayer (and then got up at the Tahajjud time) and offered eight Rakat and then offered two Rakat while sitting. He then offered two Rakat in between the Adhan and Iqama (of the Fajr prayer) and he never missed them.

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 257:
Narrated 'Aisha:
The Prophet used to lie down on his right side, after offering two Rakat (Sunna) of the Fajr prayer.

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 258:
Narrated 'Aisha:
After offering the Sunna of the Fajr prayer, the Prophet used to talk to me, if I happen to be awake; otherwise he would lie down till the Iqama call was proclaimed (for the Fajr prayer).

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 259:
Narrated 'Aisha:
After offering the two Rakat (Sunna) the Prophet (p.b.u.h) used to talk to me, if I happen to be awake; otherwise he would lie down.

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 260:
Narrated 'Aisha:
The Prophet was never more regular and particular in offering any Nawafil than the two Rakat (Sunna) of the Fajr prayer.

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 261:
Narrated 'Aisha:
Allah's Apostle used to offer thirteen Rakat in the night prayer and on hearing the Adhan for the morning prayer, he used to offer two light Rakat.

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 262:
Narrated 'Aisha:
The Prophet (p.b.u.h) used to make the two Rakat before the Fajr prayer so light that I would wonder whether he recited Al-Fatiha (or not).
  1. He would never miss the two rak`aat (Sunnah) before Fajr prayer.
  2. He would make them very light. (Surah al-Kafiroon in first rak`ah and Surah al-Ikhlaas in the second).
  3. He would chit chat with his wife (Aisha) if she was awake, otherwise he'd lie down to wait for iqamah.
This is up till the Fajr prayer. Who knows what he (SAW) used to do after that? #acceptchallengeandanswer ;)

Wassalam.

Sunnah Prayers While Traveling - Yes or No? (Ahadith 904 - 905)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 20, Number 205:
Narrated Hafs bin 'Asim:
Ibn 'Umar went on a journey and said, "I accompanied the Prophet and he did not offer optional prayers during the journey, and Allah says: 'Verily! In Allah's Apostle you have a good example to follow.' " (33.21)

Volume 2, Book 20, Number 206:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar :
I accompanied Allah's Apostle and he never offered more than two Rakat during the journey. Abu Bakr, 'Umar and 'Uthman used to do the same.

It was the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when travelling to pray the obligatory prayers only, and it was not narrated that he used to pray the regular Sunnah prayers either before or after the fard prayers.

It was narrated that ‘Aasim ibn ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab said: “I accompanied Ibn ‘Umar on the way to Makkah. He led us in praying two rak’ahs of Zuhr prayer, then he left and we left with him until he came to where his luggage was. He sat down and we sat with him, then he looked towards the place where we had prayed, and he saw some people standing and he asked, ‘What are these people doing?’ I said, ‘They are praying voluntary prayers.’ He said, ‘If I wanted to pray (naafil or Sunnah prayers) after the fard prayer I would have completed my prayer (i.e., not shortened it).’ O son of my brother, I accompanied the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) whilst travelling and he did not add anything to these two rak’ahs until Allaah took him (in death); and I accompanied Abu Bakr and he did not add anything to these two rak’ahs until Allaah took him (in death); and I accompanied ‘Umar and he did not add anything to these two rak’ahs until Allaah took him (in death); and I accompanied ‘Uthmaan and he did not add anything to these two rak’ahs until Allaah took him (in death). And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
‘Indeed in the Messenger of Allaah (Muhammad) you have a good example to follow’
[al-Ahzaab 33:21].”

But an exception is made from the above in the case of the regular Sunnah prayer of Fajr, which is to be performed when travelling just as it is performed when one is not travelling. Ibn al-Qayyim said:
“It was the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when travelling to pray only the obligatory prayers, and it was not narrated that he used to pray the regular Sunnah prayers either before or after the fard prayers, apart from Witr and the Sunnah of Fajr, which he never omitted whether he was travelling or not.”
Zaad al-Ma’aad, 1/473

And he said:
“His adherence to praying the Sunnah of Fajr was stronger than with all other naafil prayers, so he did not omit it or Witr whether he was travelling or not. When he was travelling he would still pray the Sunnah of Fajr and Witr and adhere to that more than all other naafil prayers. It is not narrated that he prayed any other regular Sunnah prayer when he was travelling.”
Zaad al-Ma’aad, 1/315

Read this post for further details.

The point is that it is prescribed to omit the regular Sunnah prayers for those who are travelling, and to limit it to the two Sunnah rak’ahs of Fajr. It is also prescribed for the traveller to continue to pray Salaat al-Witr, qiyaam al-layl, Duha and prayers done for specific reasons, and naafil prayers in general. From this you may understand that what some people say, that part of the Sunnah whilst travelling is not to pray Sunnah, is wrong. Apart from the fact that this does not make sense, it also goes against the saheeh Sunnah narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). The correct view is that not praying Sunnah whilst travelling refers to the regular Sunnah prayers that are done before and after Zuhr, and after Maghrib and ‘Isha’. And Allaah knows best.

Quick Fajr Sunnahs (Hadith No. 807)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 16, Number 807:
Narrated Anas bin Sirin:
I asked Ibn 'Umar, "What is your opinion about the two Rakat before the Fajr (compulsory) prayer, as to prolonging the recitation in them?" He said, "The Prophet (p.b.u.h) used to pray at night two Rakat followed by two and so on, and end the prayer by one Raka Witr. He used to offer two Rakat before the Fajr prayer immediately after the Adhan." (Hammad, the sub-narrator said, "That meant (that he prayed) quickly.)"

Similar Hadith here.
  1. Prophet (SAW) used to pray two rak`aat (Sunnah) before Fajr prayer right after the Adhaan.
  2. He prayed them quickly or lightly, meaning he did not prolong recitation in them.
  3. We get to know from other narrations that he used to recite Surah al-Kafiroon in the first rak`ah and Surah al-Ikhlaas in the second rak`ah of the Fajr Sunnah prayers.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) recited in the two supererogatory Rak`ah of the Fajr prayer Surat Al-Kafirun (No. 109) [in the first Rak`ah], and Surat Al-Ikhlas (No. 112) [in the second rak`ah].
[Muslim]
Gets interesting:
He [SAWS] heard a man reciting the former soorah in the first rak’ah (Surah Kafiroon), so he said, “This is a slave who believes in his Lord.” Then the man recited the latter soorah in the second rak’ah (Surah Ikhlas), so he said, “This is a slave who knows his Lord.”
[Al-Albani in "The Prophet's Prayer Described"]
And here's a nice relative blog post I came across. :)

Eid-ul-Fitr - Dates (Hadith No. 771)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 15, Number 771:
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
Allah's Apostle never proceeded (for the prayer) on the Day of 'Id-ul-Fitr unless he had eaten some dates. Anas also narrated: The Prophet used to eat odd number of dates.

Note that this Sunnah is for Eid-ul-Fitr only. The one that comes after Ramadan. :)
Eat dates before leaving for prayer, and that too in an odd number. 1, 3 , 5, 7...
Design Molvi's Tee. Might as well wear on Eid day. :D

Two Rak`aat after Jumu`ah Salah (Hadith No 757)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 757:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Umar:
Allah's Apostle used to pray two Rakat before the Zuhr prayer and two Rakat after it. He also used to pray two Rakat after the Maghrib prayer in his house, and two Rakat after the 'Isha' prayer. He never prayed after Jumua prayer till he departed (from the Mosque), and then he would pray two Rakat at home.
  1. Don't miss the Sunnah prayers:
    rak`aat before Fajr
2 or 4 before Dhuhr, 2 after it
    2 after Jumu`ah
    4 (optional*) before `Asr
    2 after Maghrib
    4 (optional*) before `Ishaa', 2 after it
  2. Pray the Sunnah prayers at home (for men). Especially the 2 rak`aat after Jumu`ah. Prophet (SAW) never prayed after Jumu`ah till he departed from the Mosque. So make it a point.

*Prophet (SAW) sometimes prayed these rak`aat, and sometimes he didn't. The other Sunnah prayers were offered regularly by him. He never missed them unless an exceptional situation came up.
Wassalam.

Friday: Miswaak (Ahadith 710 - 713)

Assalamu`alaykum,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 710:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "If I had not found it hard for my followers or the people, I would have ordered them to clean their teeth with Siwak for every prayer."

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 711:
Narrated Anas:
Allah's Apostle I said, "I have told you repeatedly to (use) the Siwak. (The Prophet put emphasis on the use of the Siwak.)
Volume 2, Book 13, Number 712:
Narrated Hudhaifa:
When the Prophet (p.b.u.h) got up at night (for the night prayer), he used to clean his mouth.

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 713:
Narrated 'Aisha:
AbdurRahman bin Abi Bakr came holding a Siwak with which he was cleaning his teeth. Allah's Apostle looked at him. I requested Abdur-Rahman to give the Siwak to me and after he gave it to me I divided it, chewed it and gave it to Allah's Apostle. Then he cleaned his teeth with it and (at that time) he was resting against my chest.

Siwak/Miswak:  twigs of certain trees that are being used on a regular basis by Muslims for centuries (and all Prophets Peace upon them) to maintain oral hygiene and gain the pleasure of Allah SWT.  It is a "natural toothbrush."  Not only does it provide spiritual benefits, but it is also beneficial to the everyday maintenance of one's mouth, gums, and teeth.
The Prohet (PBUH) said; “It is a recommended for every adult male on Friday to take a bath and put on cologne if it is possible and to use miswak.'' (Sahih Muslim)
And he (SAW) said: 'Four things are amongst the practices of the Ambiyaa — circumcision, application of perfume, Miswaak and marriage'. (Ahmad and Tirmizi)
Y u no use miswak, then?
Wassalam.

Friday: Oil and Perfume (Ahadith 707 - 708)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 707:
Narrated Tawus:
I said to Ibn 'Abbas, "The people are narrating that the Prophet said, 'Take a bath on Friday and wash your heads (i.e. take a thorough bath) even though you were not Junub and use perfume'." On that Ibn 'Abbas replied, "I know about the bath, (i.e. it is essential) but I do not know about the perfume (i.e. whether it is essential or not.)

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 708:
Narrated Tawus:
Ibn 'Abbas mentioned the statement of the Prophet regarding the taking of a bath on Friday and then I asked him whether the Prophet (p.b.u.h) had ordered perfume or (hair) oil to be used if they could be found in one's house. He (Ibn 'Abbas) replied that he did not know about it.

Ibn 'Abbas did not know about it, but it's clearly mentioned in Salman Farsi's Hadith that wearing oil (in one's hair) and perfume are among the Sunnahs of Friday. This is the Hadith:
Volume 2, Book 13, Number 706:
Narrated Salman-Al-Farsi:
The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, then uses his (hair) oil or perfumes himself with the scent of his house, then proceeds (for the Jumua prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and then remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutba, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven."
Wassalam.

For Real For Real (Hadith No. 757)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Volume 1, Book 12, Number 757:
Narrated Zaid binWahb:
Hudhaifa saw a person who was not performing the bowing and prostrations perfectly. He said to him, "You have not prayed and if you should die you would die on a religion other than that of Muhammad."

 My reaction: O_O

Wouldn't it be the greatest loss? Thinking you've done something to earn reward and Allah's pleasure, but actually all you've gained is loss. You think you've prayed, but in fact you haven't. You proudly label yourself a Muslim, but in reality you're not on the religion of Muhammad (SAW). Astaghfirullah! *shivers*
In order to save ourselves from such a bad surprise in the Hereafter, we have to perfect our prayers. Study the way Prophet (SAW) used to perform Salah very carefully and follow it as much as you can. While studying the Sunnah, you might find some teachings conflicting with the way your mom or dad or Imaam sahab used to pray. But it shouldn't matter. It shouldn't hold you back from changing your way. Because you are to follow Muhammad (SAW)'s way. For real for real (Wisam Sharieff style).

Wassalam.
