Waswaas (insinuating thoughts from Shaytaan)

A person may ask: “I am suffering from many insinuating thoughts (waswaas) about the nature of Allaah, may He be glorified. There are thoughts going around in my mind that I cannot utter because they are not befitting to Allaah, and they keep coming back to me, when I am praying and at other times. It is so bad that I doubt my faith, and wonder if I am even a Muslim or not. What is the cure for this problem?”

A number of ahaadeeth have been reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which contain the answer to this problem, al-hamdu Lillah.

The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Shaytaan may come to any one of you and say, ‘Who created Allaah?’ If any one of you experiences this, let him say, ‘Aamantu billaahi wa rasoolih (I believe in Allaah and His Messenger),’ and that will drive him away.” (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1657). The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Shaytaan may come to any one of you and ask, ‘Who created the heaven?’ and he will say, ‘Allaah.’ The Shaytaan will say, ‘Who created the earth?’ and he will say, ‘Allaah.’ Then the Shaytaan will say, ‘Who created Allaah?’ If any one of you experiences this, let him say, ‘Aamantu billaahi wa rasoolih.’” (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1656).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever experiences anything of this waswaas, let him say three times, ‘‘Aamantu billaahi wa rasoolih,’ and that will drive (the Shaytaan) away.” (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 6587).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Shaytaan may come to any one of you, and say, ‘Who created such-and-such? Who created such-and-such?’ until he asks, ‘Who created your Lord?’ If this happens to anyone, let him seek refuge with Allaah and let him stop these thoughts.” (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 7993).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The people will nearly ask too many questions, so that one of them may say, ‘Allaah created all of creation, but who created Allaah?’ If they say this, then say: ‘Allaah is the One, Allaah is the Self-Sufficient Master. He begets not, nor was He begotten; and there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him’ [al-Ikhlaas 112:1-4, interpretation of the meaning], and spit (drily) to your left three times, and seek refuge with Allaah from the Shaytaan.” (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 8182).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Think about the signs of Allaah, do not think about Allaah (Himself).” (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 2975)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Think about the creation of Allaah, do not think about Allaah (Himself).” (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 2976)

From these texts we may summarize the following six ways of overcoming these insinuating thoughts:

The person who is experiencing such ideas should say, “Aamantu billaahi wa rasoolih (I believe in Allaah and His Messenger).”

He should seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan, and say three times, “A’oodhu billaahi’l-Samee’ il-‘Aleem min al-Shaytaan il-rajeem, min hamzihi wa nafkhihi wa nafathih (I seek refuge with Allaah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed Shaytaan, and from his slander and evil insinuations).”

He should spit (drily) to his left three times.

He should stop thinking about whatever it is that is on his mind, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Let him stop.” This is an important tactic, because continuing to allow the Shaytaan to influence one in this way can only make it worse. The Muslim must stop these thoughts, as much as he is able, and keep his mind busy with something useful and beneficial.

He should recite Soorat al-Ikhlaas (Qul huwa Allaahu ahad), because it describes attributes of the Most Merciful and is considered to be equivalent to one-third of the Qur’aan. Reciting this great soorah will guarantee an end to these insinuating thoughts.

He should think about the creation and blessings of Allaah, not about His nature, because his weak human mind can never comprehend the nature of Allaah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “… and they will never compass anything of His Knowledge” [Ta-Ha 20:110]

Sleeping and missing salaat al-fajr

A brother complained: “I miss salaat al-Ffjr on most days, and I hardly ever pray it at the right time. Usually I do not wake up until after the sun has risen, or at best I wake up after the time for praying fajr in jamaa’ah. I have tried to wake up at the right time, with no success. What is the solution to this problem?”

All praise be to Allaah.

The solution to this problem, like others, has two aspects: theoretical and practical.

The theoretical aspect may be further broken down into two points:

(1) The Muslim should know the great status of salaat al-fajr in the sight of Allaah, may He be glorified. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever prays the dawn prayer in congregation, it is as if he had prayed the whole night long.” (Muslim, p. 454, no. 656; al-Tirmidhi, 221).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also said:

“The most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are salaat al-’isha’ and salaat al-fajr, but if they only knew what they contain, they would come even if they had to crawl.” (Reported by Imaam Ahmad, al-Musnad, 2/424; Saheeh al-Jaami’, 133).

“Whoever prays fajr is under the protection of Allaah. Do not put yourselves in a situation where Allaah has to call you to account for your negligence.” (Reported by al-Tabaraani, 7/267; Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 6344).

“Angels come to you in shifts by night and by day. They meet at salaat al-fajr and salaat al-‘asr, then those who had stayed with you at night ascend, and are asked by the One Who knows better than they: ‘How did you find My servants?’ They say, ‘We left them when they were praying, and we came to them when they were praying.’” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, al-Fath, 2/33).

“The best of prayers in the sight of Allaah is the dawn prayer on Friday, in congregation.” (Reported by Abu Na’eem in al-Hilyah, 7/207, and in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 1566).

According to a saheeh hadeeth: “Whoever prays al-Bardayn will enter Paradise.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, al-Fath, 2/52). Al-Bardayn are fajr and ‘asr.

(2) The Muslim should understand the seriousness of missing salaat al-fajr. This is explained by the hadeeth already quoted:

“The most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are salaat al-’isha’ and salaat al-Fajr…”

In al-Saheeh, it is reported that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with them both) said: “If we did not see a person at fajr and ‘isha’ prayers, we would think badly of him.” (Reported by al-Tabaraani in al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer, 12/271. Al-Haythami said, the men of al-Tabaraani are muwaththaqoon (trustworthy). al-Majma’, 2/40). They thought badly of a person who was absent from these two prayers because regular performance of them is an indication of a person’s faith and a measure of his sincerity. Other prayers may be easier to do because they are more convenient to a person’s circumstances and fit in with his work and his sleep, but only those who are determined and sincere, people whom one hopes are good people, will be able to pray fajr and ‘isha’ regularly in congregation.

Another hadeeth which indicates the seriousness of missing salaat al-fajr is: “Whoever prays fajr is under the protection of Allaah. Do not put yourselves in a situation where Allaah has to call you to account for your negligence, because whoever finds himself in this situation will be sorted out and then thrown on his face in the Fire of Hell.” (Reported by Muslim, p. 454).

These two points are sufficient to guarantee that the Muslim’s heart will burn with the concern to ensure that he does not miss fajr. The first motivates him to strive to earn the reward for fajr, and the second acts as a warning that will deter him from committing the sin of negligence.

The practical aspect of dealing with this problem includes a number of steps which the Muslim can take in order to get used to performing salaat al-fajr regularly in congregation. These steps include:

Sleeping early. According to a saheeh hadeeth, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to dislike sleeping before ‘isha’ and talking afterwards. The Muslim should not sleep before salaat al-’isha’ because it is obvious that most of those who sleep before it will spend the rest of the night feeling so tired and heavy that it will be as if they are ill.

Also, the Muslim should not talk after ‘isha’, and the scholars have explained the reason why doing so is disliked: it is because doing so leads to people staying up late, which in turns leads to the fear that they will sleep and miss qiyaam al-layl, or the correct or preferred time for fajr prayer.

The kind of talk that is disliked after ‘isha’, as the commentators explain, is that in which there is no clear benefit, but if there is some benefit – such as studying and gaining knowledge, learning stories of righteous people, speaking to a guest, spending time with one’s wife and family, speaking to travellers and taking care of them and their luggage, or any other permissible reason – then there is nothing wrong with it. This has no connection with the reasons for which many people stay up late nowadays, to do wrong and commit sin! So the Muslim should sleep early, so that he can wake up refreshed to pray fajr and avoid the kind of late nights that make him too tired to get up and pray fajr in congregation.

It is a fact that people differ with regard to their need for sleep, so it is not possible to dictate a set number of hours that people should sleep, but each person should stick to the time that will give him enough sleep to wake up refreshed for salaat al-fajr. If a person knows from experience that sleeping after 11 p.m., for example, will mean that he cannot get up for fajr, then from an Islamic point of view he should not sleep any later than that… and so on.

Making sure that one is clean (taahir) and reciting adhkaar (prayers) before sleeping. This helps a person to get up for fajr.

Having a sincere intention and being determined, when going to sleep, that one will get up for fajr. But a person who goes to sleep hoping that the alarm will not go off, and that no one will come and wake him up, will not – with such a corrupt intention – be able to get up to pray fajr whilst he still has this bad intention.

Remembering Allaah as soon as one wakes up. Some people may initially wake up, then they go back to sleep again. But if a person remembers Allaah straight after waking up, this will loosen one of the knots of Shaytaan, and will motivate him to get up. When he performs wudoo’, his determination becomes stronger, and Shaytaan is driven further away, and when he prays, his shaytaan is defeated, his balance (of good deeds) becomes heavier, and he will feel happy and energetic.

Seeking help from one’s family and friends to pray fajr, and encouraging one another in this regard. This is essential, and is undoubtedly included in the words of Allaah (interpretation of the meanings):

“… Help you one another in al-birr and al-taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety)…” [al-Maa’idah 5:2]

“By al-‘asr (time). Verily! Man is in loss, except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth and recommend one another to patience.” [al-‘Asr 103:1-3]

The Muslim should encourage his wife, for example by waking her up to pray fajr, and she should encourage him, no matter how tired and exhausted he may be. Children should also seek their father’s help to wake up, so he can wake them when it is time for the prayer. No father should say “They have exams, they are tired, let them sleep, poor kids.” It is a mistake to think that be doing this one is being a kind and merciful parent; true parental mercy means that the father wakes them up to worship Allaah. “And enjoin al-salaah (the prayer) on your family, and be patient in offering them (the prayers)…” [Ta-Ha 20:132 – interpretation of the meaning].

Just as family members should help and encourage one another to pray fajr, so brothers in Islam can also help one another. For example, university students living in the same residence or neighbours in the same neighbourhood can help one another by knocking on a neighbour’s door to wake him for prayer and helping him to worship Allaah.

Praying to Allaah to help him to wake up to pray fajr in congregation. Du’aa’ is one of the greatest sources of strength and success in all things.

Using various means of being woken up, such as alarm clocks. These should be put in the most appropriate place. Some people put the alarm clock next to their head, and when it rings, they turn if off at once and go straight back to sleep. Such a person should put the clock a little further away, so that he can feel that it is really waking him up.

One can also arrange to receive alarm calls from the telephone company, and no Muslim should think that it is too much to pay for this service if he needs it, because this is spending in the way of Allaah, and waking up to obey the command of Allaah cannot be measured in terms of worldly wealth.

Throwing water in the face of the person who is sleeping. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) praised the man who gets up at night to pray, and wakes his wife, and when she refuses to get up, he throws water in her face; and he praised the woman who gets up at night to pray, and wakes her husband, and when he refuses to get up, she throws water in his face. (Reported by Imaam Ahmad in al-Musnad, 2/250; Saheeh al-Jaami’, 3494).

Throwing water in a person’s face is one of the means of waking a person for prayer that is prescribed by sharee’ah. In fact it is quite refreshing and energizing. Some people may become enraged when woken in this manner, and they may shout and swear and issue threats, so the person who is seeking to wake another should employ wisdom and patience, and remember that the pens are lifted from the record of one who is sleeping (i.e., his deeds are not being recorded while he is asleep) – so he should put up with any bad treatment, and not let this put him off trying to wake people up for prayer.

Not sleeping alone. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade any man to sleep alone. (Reported by Imaam Ahmad in al-Musnad, 2/91; al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, no. 60). Perhaps the wisdom behind this prohibition is that a person could sleep too long if there is no-one to wake him up for prayer.

Not sleeping in remote places where it would not occur to anyone that someone could be sleeping there, such as a person sleeping on the roof of a house without telling his family where he is, or sleeping in a remote part of the house or student residence, so that no-one will know to wake him for prayer, but everyone will think that he is in the mosque when in fact he is fast asleep. Anyone who needs to sleep in a remote place should tell the people around him where he will be so that they can come and wake him.

Being lively and active upon waking. One should get up straightaway, and not wake up in stages, as some people do. A person could be woken up several times, and each time he gets up, but when his friend leaves, he goes back to bed. Waking up in stages usually ends in failure, and the only way to prevent falling asleep again is to get up straight away.

Not setting the alarm too early. If a person knows that there is still a long time to go until the time of the prayer, he may think, “I still have time, let me sleep a little more…” Everyone should know how to handle himself and avoid this situation.

Lighting a lamp when waking up – or, in our modern times, switching on the light. This has the effect of dispelling sleepiness.

Not staying up late, even to pray qiyaam al-layl. Some people may stay up late to pray qiyaam al-layl, then fall asleep a few minutes before fajr and be unable to wake up for the prayer. This happens a lot in Ramadaan – people stay up late and sleep a little while before fajr, so they miss the prayer. No doubt this is a grave error, because fard (obligatory) prayer should take precedence over naafil (supererogatory) prayer. So what about those who stay up late not to pray but to commit sin, or at best to do permissible things? The Shaytaan may make the idea of staying up late to discuss important matters attractive to some daa’iyahs (Islamic workers), then they sleep late and miss the prayer, thus losing much more than they gained.

Not eating too much before going to sleep. Eating too much makes one sleep deeply. The one who eats a lot gets very tired, and sleeps a lot, thus losing a lot. So one should try to eat lightly in the evening.

Warning about the misinterpretation of the sunnah to lie down after praying the sunnah of fajr. Some people may have heard the hadeeth in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When any one of you has prayed, let him lie down on his right side.” (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, no. 420; Saheeh al-Jaami’, 642). It was also reported that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had prayed the sunnah of fajr, he would lie down, then Bilaal would call him to prayer, and he would stand up to pray. People may have heard these ahaadeeth, and be keen to follow this proven sunnah, but they do not understand how to do it properly. So a person may pray the sunnah of fajr, then lie down on his right side, and fall fast asleep until the sun rises. This is because of a lack of proper understanding. The lying down is not for the purpose of sleeping, and Bilaal used to come and tell the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when it was time to pray. Moreover, as was reported by Imaam Ahmad and Ibn Hibbaan in a saheeh hadeeth, if the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) wanted to rest before fajr, he would put his head on his right palm, propped up on his elbow. (Reported by Ahmad in al-Musnad, 5/298; Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 4752). This kind of resting prevents one from falling fast asleep, because in this case one’s head is propped up on one’s palm and elbow, and will drop if one dozes off, thus waking one up again. In addition to this, Bilaal was entrusted with the responsibility of waking the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) for the fajr prayer.

Praying qiyaam al-layl late in the night, just before fajr, so that when one finishes witr, the call for fajr prayer is given, making the worship continuous. The night prayer should be offered during the last third of the night – which is the preferred time – and immediately followed by the fajr prayer, whilst one is feeling awake and energetic.

Following the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in lying down to sleep. So a person should lie on his right side, placing his right cheek on his right hand. This position makes it easy to wake up. The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and this is better than sleeping in any other position which may make it difficult to wake up.

Helping oneself by taking a nap during the day, because this will help a person by making him need less sleep at night.

Not sleeping after ‘asr or maghrib, because this will make a person sleep late, and whoever sleeps late will find it difficult to wake up.

Finally, sincere devotion to Allaah is the best thing to motivate a person to get up for prayer, because Allaah is the One Who is controlling all means of help. If a person has that true sincerity and his heart is burning with devotion to Allaah, then Allaah will help him to get up to pray fajr in congregation, even if he goes to sleep only a few moments before fajr.

This sincerity and devotion may cause some very enthusiastic people to find unusual ways to help themselves to wake up to pray, which is a sign of their eagerness and keenness. One of them may set a number of alarm clocks to wake him up, setting each one a few minutes later than the other, so that if he turns the first one off, the next one will wake him a few moments later, and so on. Another may tie a string to his wrist, with the other end dangling from his window, so that when one of his friends passes by on his way to the mosque, he can pull on the string and wake him for fajr prayer.

See what can be achieved with sincerity and determination, may Allaah guide you! But the bitter truth is that weakness of faith and lack of sincerity are widespread among people nowadays, as we can see from the small numbers of people to be found praying in the mosques at fajr, despite the fact that there are so many people living around the mosques in many neighbourhoods.

But no doubt there are people who sleep so heavily that it is almost like an illness, and they may be excused, because the matter is beyond their control. People in this situation should turn to Allaah for help, and do everything that they possibly can, and visit the doctor, to try to find a cure.

Finally, a word about a well known phenomenon: some people claim that there is a hadeeth which says that the person who wants to get up for fajr should recite the last part of Soorat al-Kahf before sleeping, and have the intention in his heart to get up at a certain hour, and this will make him get up at that time. They claim that this is a tried and tested method. Our response is that there is no such saheeh hadeeth, and this carries no weight whatsoever. The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

Love between young men and girls is of two kinds:

There are several reasons that lead young men and girls to become involved in love relations, and then, commit Zina (fornication and adultery) or at least to touch, kiss or hug each other.

We pray to Allah to protect us from such an evil.

This growing social phenomenon will not disappear unless we get rid of its causes. Here are some of the causes that we are supposed to avoid:

Firstly:

Mixing and chatting with females who display their charms and discard their outer clothing.

Secondly:

Permitting one's eyes to look at women's pictures and lewd films, now widespread and varied and used to spoil values and morals. Women were the first temptation that seduced the children of Israel.

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said:

"I am not leaving behind a more harmful trial (cause of mischief) for men than women" .
[Reported by Imams al-Bukhari and Muslim ].

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) addressing women also said:

"I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious, sensible man could be led astray by some of you" .
[Reported by Imams Bukhari and Muslim ].

Thus, Allah, The Great and Almighty, orders Muslims, males and females, to lower their gaze. He also states that lowering the gaze constitutes greater purity for Muslims.

Allah Says (interpretation of meaning):

Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what they do.
[Suran Al-Nur Verse 30].

Thirdly:

Associating with bad friends, who do their best to beautify falsehood and make bad deeds fair-seeming to them; those whose first concern is to satisfy their needs and desires. Thus, they become like animals, and even more astray.

Fourthly:

Refraining from marriage, which helps one to avoid vices.

Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said:

"O young men, those among you who can support a wife should marry, for it restrains eyes (from casting-evil glances) and protects one from immorality (i.e. illegal sex); but he who cannot afford it should observe fasting for it is a means of controlling the sexual desire" .

[ Al-Bukhari and Muslim][ Narrated by Ibn Masoud (Radiya Allahu Anhu) ]

We ask Allah, The Great and Almighty, to protect us and all Muslim youth from trials and temptations of this life and the torment of the Life to Come.

Allah knows best.

How can we increase our wealth/resources?

by Allama Hafiz Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer

Some Muslims think that Islam guides us only in matters related to hereafter .This is a misconception which needs to be clarified. Islam is the religion chosen by Allah swt and has addressed every issue related to this life and hereafter.Islam guides us in matter of economics ,culture and politics besides spiritualism. We need to focus on Quran and Sunnah and we will find solution to our problems.

An important issue related to human life is issue of economics.Every person wants to become rich . This reality has been narrated by Allah swt in Holy Quran in following way:

And verily, he is violent in the love of wealth. (Al-'Adiyat 100:8)

Most of our activities are related to economics and even the main purpose of professional education at present is to earn money. But it is our bad luck that we ignore the fact that wealth and resources are in Hands of Allah swt.

Allah swt has made it clear in Holy Quran:

And no (moving) living creature is there on earth but its provision is due from Allâh. And He knows its dwelling place and its deposit (in the uterous, grave, etc.). all is in a Clear Book (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz - the Book of Decrees with Allâh). (Hud 11:6)

On another instance Allah swt says:

Both His Hands are widely outstretched. He spends (of His Bounty) as He wills. (Al-Ma'idah 5:64)

Many people think that their provisions and income are in the hands of their boss and customers where as Allah swt says in Holy Quran:

And in the heaven is your provision, and that which you are promised. (Adh-Dhariyat 51:22).

When it is an established fact that our wealth and resources are in Hands of Allah swt than why do we ignore the sayings of Allah and His Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam related to our wealth and economy .Here are some important points if we follow them we can be wealthy with the grace of Allah swt

Firm Belief in Allah :

If a person needs provisions and success in this life he needs favour of Allah swt .Allah swt has made it clear in the Holy Quran that He will open doors of blessings for true believers. Allah swt says:

And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwâ (piety), certainly, We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes, etc.). (Al-A'raf 7:96)

So if we have firm belief in Allah swt our wealth can be increased

Piety and Abstaining from sins:

World is full of temptations and desires. A practising Muslim always try to overcome his desires and purifies himself from sins and disobedience . Allah swt has made it clear in the Holy Quran :
Indeed whosoever purifies himself shall achieve success, (Al-A'la 87:14).

So every person who wants to gain success in this life and here after should lead a pious life .Allah swt says in Holy Quran:

And fear Allâh that you may be successful. (Al-Baqarah 2:189)

One part of this success is to get good provision. This portion of is also achieved if we fear Allah swt.Allah swt says:
And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. (At-Talaq 65:2-3)

Trust in Allah swt:

When someone has trust in a trustworthy being .The trust worthy person or being never shatters the trust of the person who is having trust in him. No one can be more trustworthy than Allah swt . So when someone trusts in Allah swt the result has been mentioned in Holy Quran:
And whosoever puts his trust in Allâh, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allâh will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allâh has set a measure for all things. (At-Talaq 65:3)

Acting upon Commands of Allah swt:

When some one acts upon commands of Allah swt revealed in Old scriptures and Holy Quran Allah swt blesses him with provisions.Allah swt says in Holy Quran:

And if only they had acted according to the Taurât (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel), and what has (now) been sent down to them from their Lord (the Qur'ân), they would surely have gotten provision from above them and from underneath their feet. There are from among them people who are on the right course (i.e. they act on the revelation and believe in Prophet Muhammad SAW like 'Abdullâh bin Salâm), but many of them do evil deeds. (Al-Ma'idah 5:66)

So people of scriptures and Muslims can gain good provisions if they follow message of Allah swt.Quran is the last book of Allah swt which holds and bears the message of Gospel and Torah .So people of scripture will also have to follow Quran if they want to get provisions mentioned in the above mentioned verse.

Seeking Forgiveness of Allah swt:
When a person commits sin or disobeys Allah swt he invites anger of Allah swt and problems start coming in his life.Allah swt says in Holy Quran:
And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much. (See the Qur'ân Verse 35:45). (Ash-Shura 42:30)

When societies are disobedient to Allah swt what is the result ?The result has been mentioned in Holy Quran:

Evil (sins and disobedience of Allâh, etc.) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned (by oppression and evil deeds, etc.), that Allâh may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allâh, and begging His Pardon). (Ar-Rum 30:41)

But when human beings turn towards Allah swt and seek forgiveness.Allah swt resolves the problem of the people and bless them with good provisions. This reality has been discussed in Holy Quran Allah swt says:

"Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; (Nuh 71:10)'He will send rain to you in abundance; (Nuh 71:11)'And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.' " (Nuh 71:12)

So by seeking forgiveness Allah swt open doors of provisions for His creations.

Dedicated duas:

According to saying of prophet Muhammad salal laho aliehi wasalam.Dua is the weapon of believer And when ever a believer faces a problem he turns towards Allah swt.Allah swt says in Holy Quran:

And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright. (Al-Baqarah 2:186)

On another instance Allah swt says:
Is not He (better than your gods) Who responds to the distressed one, when he calls Him, and Who removes the evil, and makes you inheritors of the earth, generations after generations. Is there any ilâh (god) with Allâh? Little is that you remember! (An-Naml 27:62)

So when Allah listens every dua .Why cannot he replace poverty with wealth? It is our negligence that we are not turning towards Allah swt.If we invoke him our economic problems can be resolved.

Spending in Way of Allah swt:

It is the general mentality that when we spend in way of Allah swt we think that our wealth is decreasing but it is not the case.Whenever we spend in the way of Allah swt He opens new venues of income for us .Allah swt says:

And whatsoever you spend of anything (in Allâh's Cause), He will replace it. And He is the Best of providers." (Saba' 34:3)

On another instance He says :

that which you give in Zakât seeking Allâh's Countenance then those, they shall have manifold increase. (Ar-Rum 30:39)

So by spending in way of Allah swt we can increae our wealth.

Performing Hajj and Umrah:

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and Umrah is an act of great reward.Who soever leaves his home Allah swt fills his hands with provisions.Allah swt says in Holy Quran:

And proclaim to mankind the Hajj (pilgrimage). They will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, they will come from every deep and distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Hajj). (Al-Hajj 22:27)That they may witness things that are of benefit to them (i.e. reward of Hajj in the Hereafter, and also some worldly gain from trade, etc. (Al-Hajj 22:28)

Nikah:

Zina and adultery is the shameful act which shatters the foundation of any society. The society where Zina and adultery is prevailing is worse than jungle. All the heavenly religions have highlighted importance of marriage. This institute of Nikah is a very sacred institution and brings a lot of blessings and provisions with it.Allah swt says:

And marry those among you who are single (i.e. a man who has no wife and the woman who has no husband) and (also marry) the Sâlihûn (pious, fit and capable ones) of your (male) slaves and maid-servants (female slaves). If they be poor, Allâh will enrich them out of His Bounty. And Allâh is All-Sufficent for His creatures' needs, All-Knowing (about the state of the people). (An-Nur 24:32)

There is a hadith which conveys the same message

Hadhrat Aishah (radiallahu anha) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Marry women, for they will bring for you wealth” (Bazzaaz)

If we follow all the above mentioned tips we can overcome our economic crisis with the Grace of Allah swt.May Allah swt give us toufeeq to act upon the commands of Allah and His Rasool salal laho aliehi wasalam so that we are successful in this life and hereafter Ameen

International Brotherhood Identity

By Adil Sulman

Living in the U.A.E, this beard has become my identity. A place where people following different religions live, the second person understands that i'm a muslim even before i utter a word. Two instance that have given this point very very confirmed status:

1. Back in 2006/2007, while i was working on a project in dubai, me and 2 other team members (both muslims) were walking in a super market in a line. I was the last one. A man passed by us, ignoring the two persons in front of me, as he passed by me he loudly said "ASALAM-O-ALAIKUM" and I replied. Both my colleages turned and one of them said "INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD". I was very proud of these few hair that ALLAH has grown on my face.

2. A few days back and also today, when i was entering the project site I stopped at the gate for usual ID card scanning. the gaurd (clean shaved) bent down to the car window to scan the card and said "ASALAM-O-ALAIKUM" and I replied. Yet again I was instantly identified as a muslim.

The point is brothers, KEEP THE BEARD. Its the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). Its the international Identity that Allah and the Holy Prophet has given us.
And all the sisters urge ur mehram males to keep a beard.

THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING RIGHTEOUS FRIENDS

By Mohammad Ali

Do you sometimes feel that no matter how hard you try to gain eman, a moment comes when all of your efforts go in vain and you feel like on the same low level of eman? If such a thing happens with you a lot, then maybe you should check your company of friends. Allah Almighty has described clearly in the Holy Quran about the criteria for having friends.

"And keep yourself patiently with those who call on their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His Face, and let not your eyes overlook them, desiring the pomp and glitter of the life of the world; and obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lusts and whose affair (deeds) has been lost." (18:28)

Many times it is observed that a person makes a lot of effort all day or maybe all week to gather a lot of eman, but it takes 1 meeting with some friend whose company makes all this effort go in vain. This is the reason Allah Almighty told us to keep company with those people who remind us of Allah and our true purpose in life. Allah Almighty strictly told us to avoid those who have forgotten Allah.

Rasul Allah sallalaho alayhi wassalam said:

The likeness of a righteous companion and an evil companion is that of one who carries musk and one who works a bellows. With the one who carries musk, either he will give you some or you will buy from him or you will notice a pleasant fragrance from him. With the one who work a bellows, either he will burn your clothes or you will notice a foul odour from him.” [Sahih al-Bukhaari Hadith 5534; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2628)

What a great example indeed by our beloved Prophet sallalaho alayhi wassalam.

Now some of us will have a great excuse for hanging out with bad company. "Well i want to correct my friends." For me this is a trap of Shaytan the accursed. Allah knows best who maybe changed through you, but most of the times it is the opposite. Bad company will have a lot of effect on u and will influence you, rather than you influencing them. A bad friend will either make us like him/her, if not then atleast lower our eman. A bad friend will definitely have some influence on us. It is impossible that a person has taqwa and at the same time has bad company also. It is impossible that a person wants to be steadfast while being in bad company. Some of us become very apologetic and want to please our friends.

But Rasul Allah sallalaho alayhi wassalam said:

“Whoever wants to please the people by displeasing Allah, Allah will be displeased with him and will make the people displeased with him also. And whoever wants to please Allah by displeasing the people, Allah will be pleased by him and will make the people pleased with him also.” (Tirmidhi)

So watch out and save yourself before there comes a Day when:

"no friend will ask of a friend." (70:10)
"Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others." (80:37)

Youth of Ummah

All praises be to Allah swt

Messenger of Allah Muhammad [saww] said,
"Take advantage of five matters before five other matters: your youth before you become old; and your health before you fall sick; and your richness before you become poor; and your free time before you become busy; and your life before your death."

:: Ideal leader in Every field of life - Muhammad [saw] ::
The Prophet Muhammad (saww) was guided by revelation in his personal life, his character and social interactions became prime examples of moral conduct for Muslims  until the Last Day. Attention was drawn to this fact in the following Qur’aanic verse:

“Surely there is for all of you a good example (of conduct) in the way of Allaah’s Messenger.”
(Soorah al-Ahzaab, 33: 21)

Consequently, the daily life of the Prophet Muhammad  (saww) as recorded in hadeeth represents an ideal code of good conduct.

In fact, when the Prophet’s wife, ‘Aa’ishah [ra], was asked about his conduct, she replied, “His character was the Qur’aan.”

What is the reward for spouses treating one another kindly?

Praise be to Allaah.

I ask Allaah to preserve the love and happiness between you, and to fill the houses of all Muslims with that which has filled your house of good companionship and kind treatment. I give you many glad tidings of which our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) spoke when explaining the reward of the wife who is as you described:

It was narrated from ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn ‘Awf (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“If a woman does her five (daily prayers), fasts her month (Ramadaan), guards her chastity and obeys her husband, it will be said to her: Enter whichever of the gates of Paradise you want.”

Narrated by Ahmad (1/191). The editors of al-Musnad said: It is hasan li ghayrihi (hasan because of corroborating evidence). It was classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb (1932).

It was narrated from Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Shall I not tell you about your men in Paradise?” We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allaah. He said: “The Prophet will be in Paradise, the Siddeeq will be in Paradise, the man who visits his brother who lives far away and visits him only for the sake of Allaah will be in Paradise. Shall I not tell you about your women in Paradise?” We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allaah. He said: “The loving and fertile one who, if she gets angry or is mistreated or her husband gets angry says, ‘Here is my hand in your hand, I shall not sleep until you are pleased.’”

Narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Mu’jam al-Awsat (2/206). It was also narrated from a number of other Sahaabah, hence it was classed as hasan by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (3380) and in Saheeh al-Targheeb (1942).

And it was narrated from Husayn ibn Muhsin (may Allaah be pleased with him) that :

his paternal aunt went to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) concerning some need and he met her need, then he said: “Do you have a husband?” She said: Yes. He said: “How are you with him?” She said: I do what he tells me, except what is beyond me. He said: “Look at how you are with him, for he is your Paradise and your Hell.”

Narrated by Ahmad (4/341). The editors of al-Musnad said: Its isnaad may be understood to be hasan. al-Mundhiri said: A jayyid (good) isnaad. It was classed as saheeh by al-Haakim in al-Mustadrak (6/383) and al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb (1933).

Al-Manaawi said in Fayd al-Qadeer (3/60):

i.e., he is the cause of your entering Paradise if he is pleased with you, and the cause of your entering Hell if he is displeased with you. So treat him well and do not disobey his commands with regard to that which is not a sin.  [End quote].

As for the glad tidings which came to the husband who treats his wife kindly, it is when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) testified that he had perfect faith which dictated that he should enter Paradise, and that he is superior to all people.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The most perfect of the believers in faith is the one who is best in attitude, and the best of you is the one who is best in attitude towards his womenfolk.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1162); he said it is a hasan saheeh hadeeth. It was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

And Allaah knows best.

:: The Command to reflect upon the Qur'an ::

Allaah The Exalted Almighty Says (interpretation of the meaning):

(Will they not then reflect upon the Qur'an, or are there locks upon their hearts)

Imam Ibn Kathir Ibn Katheer, may Allaah have mercy on him, said in his Tafseer:

Commanding the people to reflect and ponder upon the Qur'an, and prohibiting them from turning away from it,

(Will they not then reflect upon the Qur'an, or are there locks upon their hearts) means, there indeed are locks upon some hearts, firmly closing them so that none of its meanings can reach them. Ibn Jarir recorded from Hisham bin `Urwah, from his father, may Allah be pleased with him, that Allah's Messenger once recited this Ayah,

(Will they not then reflect upon the Qur'an, or are there locks upon their hearts) and a young man from Yemen said, "Indeed, there are locks upon them -- until Allah opens them totally or slightly.'' After that `Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, always liked that young man, and kept that to himself until he became in charge, upon which he utilized him (as a consultant).

Quran is a guide to humanity which also includes you, dear . Since none of us want to be misguided, it is paramount not only to read or recite Quran, but to understand and implement it in our lives as well.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) gave us a simple formula to be the best: "The best amongst you is the one who learns the Qur'an and teaches it." (Al-Bukhari) So go ahead, learn and teach the Qur'an, and make yourself among the best of Muslims Insha Allah.

Significance of Bismillah

After attestation to faith (shahadah), the most cardinal and often-repeated phrase that Muslims use is bismillahir- rahmanir-rahim. The invocation (basmalah) has from the beginning occupied an important and special place in Muslim piety and practice.

Purpose of the basmalah

Of the many good practices instituted by Islam is that a person should begin all their activities in the Name of Allah . Remembering Allah before starting any act is an admission on the part of the individual that everything is the creation of Allah and that whatever activity or skill is to be exercised, has been granted by Allah ; thus developing a degree of proprietal consciousness and a sense of gratitude to the Creator. If the basmalah is thus consciously applied it could restrain wrongful conduct; since one in his right mind would not pronounce the Name of Allah and then commit evil, in-decency or wrongful acts. In this way, illegitimate activity would be avoided, thus ensuring that the initiation of deeds and the doer's mental orientation are good. In addition to that, when a person reads the basmalah, the Name of Allah is invoked and due to Allah's nobility, perfection, grandeur and sanctity, the activity which follows is Divinely blessed, protected from evil and thus sanctified.

Place of the basmalah

Scholars are agreed on the following:
The Basmalah is a verse of the Quran
It is a part of a verse of Surah Naml (Quran 27:30)
It is not part of the ninth chapter (Surah Taubah)
It is part of Surah al-Fatihah according to all seven Imams of Qira'ah
(i.e. Imams 'Asim, Kisa'i, Nafi', Abu 'Amru, Ibn 'Amir, Ibn Kathir and Hamzah) and according to the madhahib (schools of jurisprudence) of Shafi'i, Zaydi, Zahiri, 'Ibadi and Ja'fari. The Hanafi, Maliki and Hanbali schools differ with this view.

Importance of basmalah

The Quran documents its first revelation as: Read! In the Name of thy Rabb (Lord) Who Created (Quran 96:1). In the Old Testament (Deuteronomy, 18:18), we read: "I will raise them (the Semites) a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee (Moses) and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in My Name, and I will require it from him."

As the Holy Prophet of Islam was raised in the likeness of Moses (Quran 73:15), so in fulfillment of the above prophecy, Allah so ordained that each time a new surah was revealed, it was begun by the words: In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, Most Merciful.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad is reported to have said: "Any action of importance not begun with basmalah is devoid of blessing and therefore incomplete." The basmalah begins the Surah al-Fatihah and therefore opens the whole Quran.

The Almighty describes Himself by means of His Attributes. The Attributes of Allah are a means of us becoming knowledgeable about Him. Allah , in this respect, does not only introduce the Quran but He also introduces Himself. The basmalah is an invocation of the Divine Being by His supreme Name (Allah ), followed by two of His most beautiful names (Al-Rahman and Al-Rahim), which are in fact two of His principal Divine attributes. This headline, introduction or foreword called the basmalah, encapsulates in one brief sentence the Creator's relation to creation - the relation of love, care, concern, sympathy, compassion and mercy.

Bismillah literally means "In the Name of Allah", "By the Name of Allah", "via the Assistance and Blessing of the One called Allah."

The three parts to this phrase are B, Ism, and Allah.
"B" could mean "in", "by", or "through".

"Ism" means name. Names are given to objects in order to provide them with a sign by which they may be recognized and distinguished from other things. When the word "Ism" is used in relation to the Creator, it implies an inherent Divine Attribute. According to the Quran (59:24; 17:110), unto Allah belongs the most Beautiful Names. (Asma-ul-Husna) and according to Prophetic Tradition, Allah has 99 Names. These Attributes and Names are of a paramount importance since we know the Divine Being through them. It must be noted that no Name or Attribute of the Almighty is in contradistinction to another of His attributes or Names. He is Compassionate with all of His being, Merciful with all of His being; thus the essence of His many preferred attributes are not separate from one another. All His Names and attributes participate in all degree of His being through the unicity of His Essence. His Holy Names represent reflections of the reality of His Sacred Essence.

"Allah"- This word is a proper noun par excellence. Neither diminutive nor plural can be formed from it. It denotes all attributes of perfection in their infinitude, and refers to none other than the Absolute One, the Unique, Self- subsisting and Supreme Being. The word "Allah" is thus the most comprehensive Name of the Divine Being.

Both the words Rahman and Rahim are derived from the root RHM, which signifies tenderness, care, consideration, affection - requiring the exercise of beneficence, goodness, love, compassion, benevolence and mercy. Allah says in the Quran, "My Rahma encompasses everything." (Quran 7:155) To indicate the intensity and comprehensiveness of the Mercy of Allah, two intensive forms of the word Rahmah are used side by side and in Surah al- Fatihah it is repeated in the third verse as an independent ayah (Ar- Rahman-ir-Raheem). As a matter of fact, no other attribute of Allah as so often been stressed in the Holy Book (over 300 times) than this Divine attribute of Rahmah.

At the very threshold of one's study of the Sacred Scripture, one is ushered into the awareness of the Creator and made conscious of His Holy Presence and reminded of His boundless grace and limitless Mercy.

The Basmalah introduces the "Opening of the Book" (Al- Fatihah) and thus marks the inauguration of the Final Divine Communique - the Holy Quran.

Manners when talking to women

ALL PRAISES BE TO ALLAH

The conditions for speaking to a woman to whom one is not related are mentioned in the following aayaat (interpretation of the meaning):

". . . And when you ask (his wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen; that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts . . ." [al-Ahzaab 33:53]
". . . then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire, but speak in an honourable manner." [al-Ahzaab 33:32]

Ibn Katheer, may Allaah have mercy on him, said in his Tafseer:

"This means that they should not speak softly. Allaah commanded them to speak in a concise and decisive manner (i.e., they should be serious and brief in their speech, and not be vague or talk aimlessly). There should be no possible indication on the face that could be taken to indicate any softness in the heart, as the Arab women (before Islaam) used to do when speaking to men, by making their voices soft like women who are taking care of small children, or like prostitutes. Allaah forbade women to do that.

The phrase "lest he in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire" means lest such a person should hope for immoral deeds, indecency or romance. "Speaking in an honourable manner" means speaking in a way that does not go against Sharee’ah or offend people. Women are encouraged when speaking to men to whom they are not related and to mahrams among their in-laws to be somewhat rough or abrupt in their speech, without raising the voice, because they are commanded to lower their voice.

Speaking with a woman to whom one is not related (i.e., not mahram) should only be for a specific need, such as asking a question, buying or selling, asking about the head of the household, and so on. Such conversations should be brief, with nothing doubtful in either what is said or how it is said.

The idea of limiting speech with women to the five instances mentioned in the question needs to be approached with caution, because they could be taken as examples instead of limits. One must also adhere to the conditions set out by the Sharee’ah even in instances where such conversations are necessary, such as in da’wah, giving fatwas, buying or selling, etc. "

And Allaah knows best.
