Your Basic Necessity (Hadith No. 655)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Hadith no. 653 is a repeat. Read it here. Hadith no. 654 is also a repeat. Read it here

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 655:
Narrated 'Ubaid-Ullah Ibn 'Abdullah bin 'Utba:
I went to 'Aisha and asked her to describe to me the illness of Allah's Apostle. 'Aisha said, "Yes. The Prophet became seriously ill and asked whether the people had prayed. We replied, 'No. O Allah's Apostle! They are waiting for you.' He added, 'Put water for me in a trough." 'Aisha added, "We did so. He took a bath and tried to get up but fainted. When he recovered, he again asked whether the people had prayed. We said, 'No, they are waiting for you. O Allah's Apostle,' He again said, 'Put water in a trough for me.' He sat down and took a bath and tried to get up but fainted again. Then he recovered and said, 'Have the people prayed?' We replied, 'No, they are waiting for you. O Allah's Apostle.' He said, 'Put water for me in the trough.' Then he sat down and washed himself and tried to get up but he fainted. When he recovered, he asked, 'Have the people prayed?' We said, 'No, they are waiting for you. O Allah's Apostle! The people were in the mosque waiting for the Prophet for the 'Isha prayer. The Prophet sent for Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer. The messenger went to Abu Bakr and said, 'Allah's Apostle orders you to lead the people in the prayer.' Abu Bakr was a soft-hearted man, so he asked 'Umar to lead the prayer but 'Umar replied, 'You are more rightful.' So Abu Bakr led the prayer in those days. When the Prophet felt a bit better, he came out for the Zuhr prayer with the help of two persons one of whom was Al-'Abbas. while Abu Bakr was leading the people in the prayer. When Abu Bakr saw him he wanted to retreat but the Prophet beckoned him not to do so and asked them to make him sit beside Abu Bakr and they did so. Abu Bakr was following the Prophet (in the prayer) and the people were following Abu Bakr. The Prophet (prayed) sitting."

'Ubaid-Ullah added "I went to 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas and asked him, Shall I tell you what Aisha has told me about the fatal illness of the Prophet?' Ibn 'Abbas said, 'Go ahead. I told him her narration and he did not deny anything of it but asked whether 'Aisha told me the name of the second person (who helped the Prophet ) along with Al-Abbas. I said. 'No.' He said, 'He was 'Ali (Ibn Abi Talib).

Similar Ahadith have been covered before. Like praying despite fatal illness and switching Imaams during Salah.

I was thinking about the initial part of this Hadith. Prophet (SAW) is so ill, he can't even stay awake for long. He faints each time he wants to get up. Each time he recovers, he asks about the prayer. He worries about the people waiting for prayer. He is so weak, so close to death, yet he keeps Salah above everything else.

What is it about Salah? Why is it SO important? Why do Allah and His Messenger (SAW) emphasize on its establishment so much? Why does Prophet (SAW)'s face get lit up when he sees the Muslims praying during his last days? Why does he want to burn the houses of those men who do not turn up for congregational prayer in the masjid five times a day? Why are Muslims promised an 'honorable' place in Paradise for praying? Why is praying on time so important? Why so much reward on doing it properly and such severe punishment on ignoring it? Have you ever thought about it?

This is what I came across when I Googled 'importance of Salah':
“Then, there came after them a generation who gave up Salah and followed lusts; so they will be thrown in Hell.” (19: 59)
"Salah is the second pillar and one of the most important pillars of Islam. Salah is the key to Islam." -Hamid Syed
“The first matter that the slave will be brought to account for on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. If it is sound, then the rest of his deeds will be sound. And if it is bad, then the rest of his deeds will be bad.” [Tabarani]
“Salat is a pillar of the religion (Islam). He who establishes it, establishes religion; and he who destroys it, destroys religion." [Tabarani]

After going through all this, I'm now thinking: Salah is one of the basic necessities of life. If water keeps your body alive, Salah keeps your soul nourished. We can go on about the physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, personal, social and other benefits of Salah. But I can conclude early: Salah is a Muslim's basic necessity.

Let your soul live. PRAY!
Wassalam.

Switching Imaams During Salah (Hadith No. 652)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Hadith no. 650 and 651 are repeats. Read them here.

 Volume 1, Book 11, Number 652:
Narrated Sahl bin Sa'd As-Sa'idi:
Allah's Apostle went to establish peace among Bani 'Amr bin 'Auf. In the meantime the time of prayer was due and the Mu'adh-dhin went to Abu Bakr and said, "Will you lead the prayer, so that I may pronounce the Iqama?" Abu Bakr replied in the affirmative and led the prayer. Allah's Apostle came while the people were still praying and he entered the rows of the praying people till he stood in the (first row). The people clapped their hands. Abu Bakr never glanced sideways in his prayer but when the people continued clapping, Abu Bakr looked and saw Allah's Apostle. Allah's Apostle beckoned him to stay at his place. Abu Bakr raised his hands and thanked Allah for that order of Allah's Apostle and then he retreated till he reached the first row. Allah's Apostle went forward and led the prayer. When Allah's Apostle finished the prayer, he said, "O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from staying when I ordered you to do so?"
Abu Bakr replied, "How can Ibn Abi Quhafa (Abu Bakr) dare to lead the prayer in the presence of Allah's Apostle?" Then Allah's Apostle said, "Why did you clap so much? If something happens to anyone during his prayer he should say Subhan Allah. If he says so he will be attended to, for clapping is for women."

  • If the Imaam has to be switched during Salah, the method is pretty clear in the Hadith. The Imaam who has to take over should enter the rows from the back and come to the front.
  • If anything happens during Salah, men are to say SubhanAllah. They will be attended to (as the Prophet (SAW) said). Clapping is for women.
  • When Prophet (SAW) beckoned Abu Bakr (RA) to stay at his place and keep leading the prayer, he thanked Allah right there for the honor. But he refused to do so, as he explains in the last part: "how can Abu Quhafa dare to lead the prayer in the presence of Allah's Apostle (SAW)?"
If you're being offered a position/rank and you know someone who's more worthy of it, don't hesitate to step back.
  • If something unusual happens during Salah, the Imaam can inquire about it afterwards and make amendments accordingly, as the Prophet (SAW) did.

The Face of the Prophet [SAW] (Ahadith 648-649)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Hadith no. 646 and 647 are repeats. Read here.

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 648:
Narrated Az-Zuhn:
Anas bin Malik Al-Ansari, told me, "Abu Bakr used to lead the people in prayer during the fatal illness of the Prophet till it was Monday. When the people aligned (in rows) for the prayer the Prophet lifted the curtain of his house and started looking at us and was standing at that time. His face was (glittering) like a page of the Qur'an and he smiled cheerfully. We were about to be put to trial for the pleasure of seeing the Prophet, Abu Bakr retreated to join the row as he thought that the Prophet would lead the prayer. The Prophet beckoned us to complete the prayer and he let the curtain fall. On the same day he died."

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 649:
Narrated Anas:
The Prophet did not come out for three days. The people stood for the prayer and Abu Bakr went ahead to lead the prayer. (In the meantime) the Prophet caught hold of the curtain and lifted it. When the face of the Prophet appeared we had never seen a scene more pleasing than the face of the Prophet as it appeared thenThe Prophet beckoned to Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer and then let the curtain fall. We did not see him (again) till he died.

What lit the face of the Prophet (SAW) that day was seeing the Muslims praying together, all bowing down to the Almighty Allah. I wonder if he'd feel the same seeing the Muslims today: all of them not praying together, not bowing down to Allah. Sigh. May Allah bring back the days of glory.

Uloom-ul-Hadith : 4 Obligations for Student of Hadith.

The Prophet  صلى الله عليه و سلام said, “May Allah enlighten face of person who  hears from me, memorize it ,preserves it and then narrates it to others, as he heard it from me”(Reported in Tirmidhi, Ibn Mas’ud, Sahih and Hasan)
There are 4 obligations for Student of Hadith and you can see it, from the life of Imam Bukhari .Subhan ALLAH! May ALLAH grant him Jannat-ul-firdous Ameen
Four obligations are :
1-”who  hears from me, “
2-”memorize it”
3-”,preserves it “
4-”narrates it to others, as he heard it from me”
————————————————————————————————————————————
Do you want to become one of those ,”“May Allah enlighten face of person”.You have to perform 4 obligations  :)

Leading To Teach (Hadith No. 645)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 645:
Narrated Aiyub:
Abu Qilaba said, "Malik bin Huwairith came to this Mosque of ours and said, 'I pray in front of you and my aim is not to lead the prayer but to show you the way in which the Prophet used to pray.' " I asked Abu Qilaba,"How did he use to pray?' " He replied, "(The Prophet used to pray) like this Sheikh of ours and the Sheikh used to sit for a while after the prostration, before getting up after the first Rak'ah. "

Leadership, whether in Salah or otherwise, has many aspects to it. One of them is: teaching.
The most knowledgeable and wise is supposed to lead others, according to a Hadith of the Prophet (SAW). That knowledgeable person should impart his knowledge and wisdom to others as well, by showing them how things are done.

Lead you will, teach as well.

Salah is Better.. (Hadith No. 644)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Hadith no. 643 is a repeat. It's about eating with a knife and all. Read it here.

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 644:
Narrated Al-Aswad:
That he asked 'Aisha "What did the Prophet use to do in his house?" She replied, "He used to keep himself busy serving his family and when it was the time for prayer he would go for it."

What keeps you from prayer? Sleep? Work? House chores? Studies? Friends? Inner desires? What is it that keeps you from a special one-on-one meeting with the Most High? Whatever it is, just let go..

To Eat Or To Pray? (Ahadith 640-642)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 640:
Narrated 'Aisha:
The Prophet said, "If supper is served, and Iqama is pronounced one should start with the supper."

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 641:
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
Allah's Apostle said, "If the supper is served start having it before praying the Maghrib prayer and do not be hasty in finishing it."

 Volume 1, Book 11, Number 642:
Narrated Nafi':
Ibn 'Umar said, "Allah's Apostle said, 'If the supper is served for anyone of you and the Iqama is pronounced, start with the supper and don't be in haste (and carry on eating) till you finish it." If food was served for Ibn 'Umar and Iqama was pronounced, he never came to the prayer till he finished it (i.e. food) in spite of the fact that he heard the recitation (of the Qur'an) by the Imam (in the prayer). Narrated Ibn 'Umar: The Prophet said, "If anyone of you is having his meals, he should not hurry up till he is satisfied; even if the prayer has been started."

Now, it's not an everyday situation. We make sure that our meal times do not conflict with prayer times. But in case food is served to you at prayer time and you're hungry, you may continue eating. And don't make haste in finishing your food, as Prophet (SAW) said.

So, bon appetit! :)
Wassalam.

Uloom-Ul-Hadith : Kitabat-e-Hadith. (Writing of Hadith/Preserving).

In the present world, many misconceptions were spread among Muslim Community. One of them is writing or preserving of Hadith. Before, Prophet  صلى الله عليه و سلام said to stop writing Hadith and later on it was allowed to write. Because of this some people doubt authenticity of Hadith. In sha ALLAH today we shall clear this confusion.
Firstly, we will look at those Hadith in which Prophet  صلى الله عليه و سلام stopped Sahabah from writing Hadith and than later on permitted them.
 Book 042, Number 7147, Chapter 17 : Sahih Muslim
Abu Sa’id Khudri reported that Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Do not take down anything from me, and he who took down anything from me except the Qur’an, he should efface that and narrate from me, for there is no harm in it and he who attributed any falsehood to me-and Hammam said: I think he also said:” deliberately” -he should in fact find his abode in the Hell-Fire.
This Hadith shows that Prophet  صلى الله عليه و سلام stopped everyone from writing Hadith but He didn’t stopped them memorizing and then conveying it ,as you can see Prophet’s words ,” narrate from me, for there is no harm in it”.
This Hadith shows that Prophet  صلى الله عليه و سلام  permitted them to write Hadith again, in order to preserve it. As we mentioned earlier , there are two types of Wahi (Revelation). Allah took the responsibility of saving Quran and so do Hadith was saved by preserving it in Text form.
Sahih Bukhari , Volume 1, Book 3, Number 114 : Narrated by ‘Ubaidullah bin ‘Abdullah
Ibn ‘Abbas said that Prophet said,  ’Bring for me (writing) paper and I will write for you a statement after which you will not go astray.’

QUESTION POPPED UP IN YOUR MIND BECAUSE IN CLASS, IT HAPPENED TO ME ALSO.
Are you thinking that Why Prophet  صلى الله عليه و سلام stopped sahabah from writing Hadith?
Answer: There are some reasons  and they are as follows :
1-      As we know that Qur’an was also written down by Sahabah, at the same time writing HADITH might have resulted in confusion that which one is Hadith and which one is ayah of Qur’an. Those who note down verbal lecture hurriedly, knows best how difficult it is to distinguish between two different things written on ONE PAGE OF NOTEBOOK. It happens with me so when I reach home and open my notebook to revise, I cannot understand which thing is connected or is separate from another. So, Prophet  صلى الله عليه و سلام feared the mixing up of both revelations. (Wah-e-Matlu which is Qur’an and Wah-e-Ghair Matlu which is Hadith).
2-      One of the other reason of mixing up both revelations was that the level of writers of Hadith were not same. Some had more Iman than others and some were more careful in writing from others. So, not being much careful can lead to mixing up.
Alhamdu-lillah when they got trained Prophet allowed them to write. This was researched by Ulema of Hadith and one of the famous Ulema of Hadith is Ibn Hajar Isqalani. He did interpretation of Hadith and name of that Book is “Fath-ul-Bari’ It is in 12 or 13 Volumes.Alhamdu-lillah. He said regarding this matter, ”The first command was to stop from preserving and to allow it was later, which “Mansukh” the first command”.
Ibn-e-Jawzi said same.
Question : Why should we believe on this research of scholars of Hadith?
Answer : Scholars are the heirs of the Prophets, who have assumed their role in conveying the Message and calling people to Islâm. They are the people of abundant good fortune, as the Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said: “The scholars are the heirs of the Prophets, for the Prophets do not leave behind any dinars or dirhams (i.e., wealth), but they leave behind knowledge. Whoever receives this knowledge receives abundant good fortune.” (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 2606). Allâh wills good for the scholars, as the Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said: “Whoever Allâh wishes good for, He enables him to understand the religion properly.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 69)
————————————————————————————————————————-
Alhamdu-lillah. Please share this beneficial knowledge with others and let them know the basics about Hadith . May ALLAH reward you Ameen.
Rabana taqabul Mina inaka Antus Samee ul Aleem Ameen
I will continue next time In sha ALLAH with another Yum Yum topic  :).

Mud On My Forehead (Ahadith 637-639)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 637:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Al-Harith:
Ibn Abbas addressed us on a (rainy and) muddy day and when the Mu'adh-dhin said, "Come for the prayer" Ibn 'Abbas ordered him to say, "Pray in your homes." The people began to look at one another with surprise as if they did not like it. Ibn 'Abbas said, "It seems that you thought ill of it but no doubt it was done by one who was better than I (i.e. the Prophet). It (the prayer) is a strict order and I disliked to bring you out."
Ibn 'Abbas narrated the same as above but he said, "I did not like you to make you sinful (in refraining from coming to the mosque) and to come (to the mosque) covered with mud up to the knees."

More on it here.

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 638:
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri:
A cloud came and it rained till the roof started leaking and in those days the roof used to be of the branches of date-palms. Iqama was pronounced and I saw Allah's Apostles prostrating in water and mud and even I saw the mark of mud on his forehead.
I really want to follow this Sunnah: prostrate on muddy ground and get a mark of mud on my forehead. Crazy, right? I know. :)

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 639:
Narrated Anas bin Sirin:
I heard Anas saying, "A man from Ansar said to the Prophet, 'I cannot pray with you (in congregation).' He was a very fat man and he prepared a meal for the Prophet and invited him to his house. He spread out a mat for the Prophet, and washed one of its sides with water, and the Prophet prayed two Rakat on it." A man from the family of Al-Jaruid asked, "Did the Prophet used to pray the Duha (forenoon) prayer?" Anas said, "I did not see him praying the Duha prayer except on that day."

Uloom-ul-Hadith - Status of Hadith in Shariah.

Qur’an and Hadith is Included in Shariah of Islam. Those who reject HADITH, don’t think HADITH as law. Instead they think it as arab customs or traditions. It’s a fact, that if someone don’t follow customs or traditions of any specific country, they wont be punished in AKHIRAH. For example, The traditional dress of arab, pakistan, india, and many other Muslim countries are different. If a person don’t wear dress of any of these countries then ALLAH wont punish him because its not fard on him. However, one must wear dress within limits of  islam about dress. Therefore, munkary hadith(hadith rejecters) consider Hadith nothing but Only arab customs. They think it’s not fard to follow it because it’s just TRADITION OR CUSTOM OF ARAB.
On the other hand, Qura’n says to follow Prophet and includes Hadith in Shariah.Evidence in Surah Al-Hashr , Ayah 7,
“ And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad ) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it) , and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment.”
And whatsoever ” means whatever Messenger gives you, YOU have to take it or in other words, It’s FARD on you to take it and whatever he stops you from,YOU SHOULD STOP FROM IT. If you wont stop from whatever Prophet stopped you and didn’t take whatever HE gives you means,”Hadith included in Shariah”. Then wait for the punishment of ALLAH. Astagfirullah. May ALLAH save us Ameen.
Those who reject Hadith, automatically reject this ayah and if you reject one ayah that means you reject Whole Quran. Thats why ALLAH says that  “FEAR ALLAH.VERILY, Allah is severe in punishment”.
This ayah gives status of Shariah to Prophet. Therefore, whatever Prophet commands we must follow it.
Another evidence of Prophet having status of Shariah, that whatever he forbids consider it HARAM and whatever he makes it HALAL, consider it HALAL. This makes up laws in islam.Evidence from Surah A A’raf , Ayah 157
“  -He (Mohammad) commands them what is right and forbids them what is evil; He makes lawful to them what is good and makes unlawful what is foul; he releases them from their heavyburdens (of Allah’s Covenant), and from the fetters (bindings) that were upon them. So those who believe in him (Muhammad ), honour him, help him, and follow the light (the Qur’an) which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful .”
Who are successful people?
So those who believe in him (Muhammad ), honour him, help him, and follow the light (the Qur’an) which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful .”
This ayah proves that whatever Prophet forbid is forbidden and whatever he made halal is halal which we learn in Hadith. Alhamdu-lillah.As we know only 4 things are mentioned in Qur’an which are forbidden. Those are :
1- anything over which other name than that of Allah has been invoked.
2-Pork Meat and Pork.
3-Dead animal.
4- The blood which flow during the slaughter of animal.
Apart from this, Prophet stated many things Haram. For example,
Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a person came to the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) and said: “The donkeys have been (slaughtered and) eaten.” Another man came and said: “The donkeys have been destroyed.” The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) ordered a caller to announce to the people: “Allah and His Messenger forbid you to eat the meat of donkeys, for it is impure.” Thus the pots were turned upside down while the (donkey’s) meat was boiling in them.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, no: 5208)
Now a days people do consider DONKEY MEAT as HARAM but still they reject Hadith. Allah knows best what’s in thier mind. And Prophet himself says that something is given to him similar to Qura’n which is offcourse HADITH.
It was narrated from al-Miqdaam ibn Ma’di Yakrib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“Verily I have been given the Qur’an and something similar to it along with it. But soon there will be a time when a man will be reclining on his couch with a full stomach, and he will say, ‘You should adhere to this Qur’an: what you find that it says is permissible, take it as permissible, and what you find it says is forbidden, take it as forbidden.’ But indeed, whatever the Messenger of Allah forbids is like what Allah forbids.”
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (2664). “
————————————————————————————————————————
Alhamdu-lillah. It’s blessing of ALLAH if you have read this post in which Qura’n proves that Prophet was given status to make SHARIAH and today we learn it from Hadith. You cannot reject Hadith after so many proves from Qura’n and Sunnah. :)

Rabana taqabal mina inaka Antus Samee-ul-Aleem Ameen.
In sha ALLAH i will continue tomrrow with another Yum Yum topic :) .
