Simplified fiqh- Islamic Ruling on Clothing






1 Is it Haram (prohibited) for a man to let the clothes down without arrogance?
It is absolutely Haram.


2 Is the Salah of the person who lengthens and trails clothes below the ankles valid?
The Salah performed by the one who does so is valid; however, he is sinful.




3 What is the length of garments preferable for men?
He should wear the garment that extends between the mid-calf and the ankle.


4 A tailor who sews clothes below the ankles.

It is not permissible.


5 Is the Salah of the man who wears light clothes valid?
It is permissible if it is not see-through clothes.


6 Wearing transparent and tight clothes which show the shape of the body.

It is not permissible

7 Is there a specific color that a person should wear?
It is not obligatory to wear a specific color
.


8 What is the ruling on wearing clothes with a cross?
It is prohibited to offer Salah while wearing them. The cross should be removed.


9 Is it permissible to run a hairdressing salon for women?
It is not permissible.


10 Is it permissible to wear the graduation gown at the time of graduation from the faculty or the institute?
It is not permissible, because it is uniquely the clothes of the Christians.



What is the ruling on a man who uncovers his `Awrah (parts of the body that must be covered in public) in the presence of other men without a legal excuse?          
It is not permissible.     



12           Is it permissible to wear leather belts, shoes and coats manufactured in the West?        
  
It is permissible; because the basic ruling is that the leather is pure.          



13           If fox skin is tanned, will it be Tahir (ritually pure)? 
Its skin is Najis (ritually impure) exactly as its meat.                



14           Is it permissible to use the leather of a tiger or any other animal, being stuffed with straw for decoration?           
It is not permissible to use what is mentioned.
       

15           Is it lawful for a woman to wear tight clothes for her husband?                
There is nothing wrong in doing so if she wears it for her husband only.



16           Is it permissible to place a zipper on any part of a women's garment?    
It is permissible.

                 

17           Is it permissible to wear shorts for swimming?   
Yes, if it covers the `Awrah (parts of the body that must be covered in public).          



18           A merchant may wear trousers, as the Christians usually wear, to save himself getting into trouble with custom officers and policemen.                
There is nothing wrong in doing so.
      



19           What is the ruling on wearing a turban?             
  It is part of the customs rather than `Ibadahs (acts of worship).                



20           What is the ruling on a man who offers Salah with his head uncovered?              
  It is permissible to uncover his head.   



Is Ghutrah (a traditional cotton headdress worn by men in some Arab countries) considered a Sunnah?
It is part of the customs rather than `Ibadahs (acts of worship).
              



22           Is it Haram (prohibited) for a man to wear silk, even if it is synthetic?    
   Wearing natural silk is Haram, but it is permissible to wear synthetic silk.         



23           Is it permissible to drink Khamr (intoxicant) as a cure for illness?           
     It is not permissible.     


24           Is it Haram (prohibited) for both men and women to wear silk clothes?
It is absolutely Halal (lawful) for women to wear silk clothes, unlike men who are not permitted to wear silk except for a necessity.
