Fair Dealing (Hadith No. 1788)

Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 34, Number 293:
Narrated Hakim bin Hizam (radiallaahu `anhu):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "The seller and the buyer have the right to keep or return goods as long as they have not parted or till they part; and if both the parties spoke the truth and described the defects and qualities (of the goods), then they would be blessed in their transaction, and if they told lies or hid something, then the blessings of their transaction would be lost."
The seller must disclose any faults in the item which may make it less desirable and reduce its price. There is abundant shar’i evidence to this effect. It was narrated that Wahb ibn ‘Aamir (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “The Muslim is the brother of (another) Muslim. It is not permissible for a Muslim to sell something to his brother in which there is a fault without disclosing it to him.” Narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawood; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel (1321). 
And it was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah have mercy on him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) passed by a man who was selling some foodstuff. He put his hand in it and found that it was wet. He said: “Whoever deceives us is not one of us.” Narrated by Muslim (101).
I know for a fact that very little people do this. If someone's out to sell his product, he'd like to hide the defects knowingly in order to get a bigger price than its worth. Only a believer would do this because he knows that these few extra bucks won't do him much good if he lost Allah's pleasure because of his unfair dealing.
Jannah is your real business. Strive to crack that deal. ;)

Ramadan - Paradise Open & Hell Closed (Ahadith 1617 - 1618)

Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 31, Number 122:
Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaahu `anhu):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened."
Volume 3, Book 31, Number 123:
Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaahu `anhu):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained."
Opening of the gates of Paradise means that the way to Paradise and its attainment is made easier through deeds like praying, fasting and reciting Quran etc. Similarly, closing of the gates of Hell means that the way to Hell is made tougher by making it easier to leave sins - chaining of the devils helps in both scenarios, since they're not around to whisper in our hearts and encourage us to commit bad deeds.
Alhamdulillah for Ramadan and its blessings. May Allah make us all come out of it sinless. Ameen.

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 120:
Narrated Sahl (radiallaahu `anhu):
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe fasts?' They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it."
Imagine being there. Imagine the angels at Ar-Rayyan (gate of Paradise) calling out YOUR name. Imagine feeling so special. <3
Volume 3, Book 31, Number 121:
Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaahu `anhu):
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "Whoever gives two kinds (of things or property) in charity for Allah's Cause, will be called from the gates of Paradise and will be addressed, 'O slaves of Allah! Here is prosperity.' So, whoever was amongst the people who used to offer their prayers, will be called from the gate of the prayer; and whoever was amongst the people who used to participate in Jihad, will be called from the gate of Jihad; and whoever was amongst those who used to observe fasts, will be called from the gate of Ar-Raiyan; whoever was amongst those who used to give in charity, will be called from the gate of charity." Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) said, "Let my parents be sacrificed for you, O Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)! No distress or need will befall him who will be called from those gates. Will there be any one who will be called from all these gates?" The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) replied, "Yes, and I hope you will be one of them."
A person can get his name in three lists easily, I suppose. If he prays, fasts and gives charity regularly, he'll be called out from three gates. Isn't that awesome? Imagine being there. Imagine thinking which gate to enter from.. <3
And who can compete with Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) in good deeds? May Allah make us more like him.

The Obligatory Fasting (Hadith No. 1610)

Alhamdulillah, perfect timing with Ramadan right around the corner. :)
Volume 3, Book 31, Number 115:
Narrated Talha bin 'Ubaid-Ullah (radiallaahu `anhu):
A bedouin with unkempt hair came to Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) and said, "O Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)! Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards the prayers." He replied: "You have to offer perfectly the five compulsory prayers in a day and night (24 hours), unless you want to pray Nawafil." The bedouin further asked, "Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards fasting." He replied, "You have to fast during the whole month of Ramadan, unless you want to fast more as Nawafil." The bedouin further asked, "Tell me how much Zakat Allah has enjoined on me." Thus, Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) informed him about all the rules (i.e. fundamentals) of Islam. The bedouin then said, "By Him Who has honored you, I will neither perform any Nawafil nor will I decrease what Allah has enjoined on me. Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, "If he is saying the truth, he will succeed (or he will be granted Paradise)."
This indicates that the fasting that is obligatory is fasting in the month if Ramadaan. With regard to fasting on other occasions, it is not a sin if one does not do it.
But we should not ignore fasting on other occasions such as ‘Ashoora’, ‘Arafah, six days of Shawwaal and so on, because of the great reward that this brings and the great status it has. Moreover observing naafil fasts makes up for any shortfall that there may be in the obligatory fasts. 
It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say:
The first of his deeds for which a person will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayer. If it is sound he will have succeeded, and if it is lacking he will be a loser. If anything is lacking from his obligatory prayers, the Lord will say, ‘Look and see if My slave has any voluntary prayers, and use them to make up what is lacking from his obligatory prayers.’ Then all his deeds will be dealt with in like manner.
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, no. 413; al-Nasaa’i no. 465. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi. 
This indicates that observing naafil fasts will make up for any lack in the obligatory fasts.
P.S. you'l note that the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) gave the Bedouin (questioner in the Hadith) option to pray and fast voluntarily as well, instead of only telling him about the obligatory stuff , although the answer would have sufficed. This shows that he was trying to motivate him to do more than just the compulsory acts - the bare minimum.

The Best of Women (Hadith No. 1542)

Volume 3, Book 27, Number 18:
Narrated Hisham Ibn 'Urwa from his father who said:
While I was a youngster, I asked 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa) the wife of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam). "What about the meaning of the Statement of Allah;
"Verily! (the mountains) As-Safa and Al Marwa, are among the symbols of Allah. So, it is not harmful if those who perform Hajj or 'Umra of the House (Ka'ba at Mecca) to perform the going (Tawaf) between them? (2.158) I understand (from that) that there is no harm if somebody does not perform the Tawaf between them." 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa) replied, "No, for if it were as you are saying, then the recitation would have been like this: 'It is not harmful not to perform Tawaf between them.' This verse was revealed in connection with the Ansar who used to assume the Ihram for the idol Manat which was put beside a place called Qudaid and those people thought it not right to perform the Tawaf of As-Safa and Al-Marwa. When Islam came, they asked Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) about that, and Allah revealed:--
"Verily! (the mountains) As-Safa and Al-Marwa Are among the symbols of Allah. So, it is not harmful of those who perform Hajj or 'Umra of the House (Ka'ba at Mecca) to perform the going (Tawaf) between them." (2.158) Sufyan and Abu Muawiya added from Hisham (from 'Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa)): "The Hajj or 'Umra of the person who does not perform the going (Tawaf) between As-Safa and Al-Marwa is incomplete in Allah's sight.

Today's Hadith:

Volume 3, Book 27, Number 19:
Narrated Isma'il:
Abdullah bin Abu Aufa (radiallaahu `anhu) said: "Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) performed 'Umra and we too performed 'Umra along with him. When he entered Mecca he performed the Tawaf (of Ka'ba) and we too performed it along with him, and then he came to the As-Safa and Al-Marwa (i.e. performed the Sai) and we also came to them along with him. We were shielding him from the people of Mecca lest they may hit him with an arrow." A friend of his asked him (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Aufa (radiallaahu `anhu)), "Did the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) enter the Ka'ba (during that 'Umra)?" He replied in the negative. Then he said, "What did he (the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)) say about Khadija (radiallaahu `anhaa)?" He (Abdullah bin Aufa (radiallaahu `anhu)) said, "(He said) 'Give Khadija (radiallaahu `anhaa) the good tidings that she will have a palace made of Qasab in Paradise and there will be neither noise nor any trouble in it."
I'll discuss only the last part of the Hadith, about Khadija (radiallaahu `anhaa). I don't know about you, but her mention always brings a smile on my face. What a lady! I wonder sometimes how can someone love another so selflessly..? How can someone devote their life, time, energies, wealth, everything to someone else and their mission? I know he was a Prophet and it was different with him. But what about before his prophet-hood? Khadija (radiallaahu `anhaa) didn't know he was going to be a Prophet later, and that's certainly not why she married him. She had married him for his noble character and honesty. And she had devoted everything to him after marriage. Not once do we get to know that she showed her superiority over him due to her wealth.
It's not like life was smooth for them. They suffered. She suffered.. because of him (apparently). A typical wife would fire taunts at the husband for the rest of her life if she had to go through any difficulty because of him. But Khadija (radiallaahu `anhaa) was not a typical wife at all! She was given glad tidings of a palace in Jannah for a reason, where there will be no noise or trouble. She was chosen to be among the best women of Jannah for a reason.
We all want to have the same destination, but we don't want to undertake the journey. How can this work?

So Much Charity (Hadith No. 1476)

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 776:
Narrated 'Ali (radiallaahu `anhu):
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) offered one hundred Budn as Hadi and ordered me to distribute their meat (in charity) and I did so. Then he ordered me to distribute their covering sheets in charity and I did so. Then he ordered me to distribute their skins in charity and I did so.
100 camels. Their meat, skins, everything was given in charity. Unbelievable! Who would do that?!
If you think about it, one camel can suffice seven families. So he gave in charity what would've been enough for 700 families (they would divide it further for use at home and giving in charity). He gave it all away. SubhanAllah, what a wise man! He always preferred the `aysh (life) of the Aakhirah over this life. And what is charity but a ticket to Jannah?
You possess only what will not be lost in a shipwreck.
As for the fiqh of it, we've already discussed in one of the previous posts that portions for charity/family etc. are not fixed for sacrificial animals. Ratio can be varied according to need.

Hajj - Summary of Events (Hadith No. 1450)

This here is a brilliant summary of the events of Hajj. May Allah reward `Abdullah ibn `Umar and other companions who have narrated such detailed accounts of the incidents that took place in Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)'s life. I sometimes try to imagine what it would be like if the Quran and Sunnah weren't preserved like they are right now.. I fail to imagine.
May Allah join us with them (prophets, companions, martyr, truthful ones, righteous ones) in Jannah. I, for one, would love to sit down with them and hear about their life stories from them. If autographs would be the 'thing' in Jannah, I wouldn't mind taking a few (read: a lot!). And if it'd be cool to 'party' with them, I'd love to be the host. May Allah take us all there.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar (radiallaahu `anhu):
During the last Hajj (Hajj-al-Wada') of Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) he performed 'Umra and Hajj. He drove a Hadi along with him from Dhul-Hulaifa. Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) started by assuming Ihram for'Umra and Hajj. And the people, too, performed the 'Umra and Hajj along with the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam). Some of them brought the Hadi and drove it along with them, while the others did not. So, when the Prophet arrived at Mecca. he said to the people, "Whoever among you has driven the Hadi, should not finish his Ihram till he completes his Hajj. And whoever among you has not (driven) the Hadi with him, should perform Tawaf of the Ka'ba and the Tawaf between Safa and Marwa, then cut short his hair and finish his Ihram, and should later assume Ihram for Hajj; but he must offer a Hadi (sacrifice); and if anyone cannot afford a Hadi, he should fast for three days during the Hajj and seven days when he returns home. The Prophet performed Tawaf of the Ka'ba on his arrival (at Mecca); he touched the (Black Stone) corner first of all and then did Ramal (fast walking with moving of the shoulders) during the first three rounds round the Ka'ba, and during the last four rounds he walked. After finishing Tawaf of the Ka'ba, he offered a two Rakat prayer at Maqam Ibrahim, and after finishing the prayer he went to Safa and Marwa and performed seven rounds of Tawaf between them and did not do any deed forbidden because of Ihram, till he finished all the ceremonies of his Hajj and sacrificed his Hadi on the day of Nahr (10th day of Dhul-Hijja). He then hastened onwards (to Mecca) and performed Tawaf of the Ka'ba and then everything that was forbidden because of Ihram became permissible. Those who took and drove the Hadi with them did the same as Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) did.

Paradise on Earth (Ahadith 985 - 986)


Bismillah.
Volume 2, Book 21, Number 286:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Zaid Al-Mazini:
Allah's Apostle said, "Between my house and the pulpit there is a garden of the gardens of Paradise."
Volume 2, Book 21, Number 287:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "Between my house and my pulpit there is a garden of the gardens of Paradise, and my pulpit is on my fountain tank (i.e. Al-Kauthar)."
So there is a little bit of heaven on Earth. :D
Knowing that a certain piece of land in Madinah is a garden from the gardens of Paradise is not enough. What we really need to know is what we're supposed to do when (and if) we visit it. Should we go all desi and start kissing the floor and not make space for anybody to pray there? (Personal experience during last `Umrah.)
Yeah, don't make space for anybody. Keep it aaaaalll for yourself. -_-
It's worse during women's visiting hours, by the way. :P
Ibn `Uthaymeen said when asked about it:
It is better for him to pray in al-Rawdah which is the area between the minbar of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the room in which is his grave, because this area is one of the gardens (riyaadh, sing. rawdah) of Paradise.

This is the kind of Hadith that makes you cry and smile at the same time. I absolutely love it. [I just saw the hearts and stars that I drew around it in my physical Bukhari back when I was studying it in a course. Such love!]

Volume 1, Book 12, Number 770:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The people said, "O Allah's Apostle! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" He replied, "Do you have any doubt in seeing the full moon on a clear (not cloudy) night?" They replied, "No, O Allah's Apostle!" He said, "Do you have any doubt in seeing the sun when there are no clouds?" They replied in the negative. He said, "You will see Allah (your Lord) in the same way. On the Day of Resurrection, people will be gathered and He will order the people to follow what they used to worship. So some of them will follow the sun, some will follow the moon, and some will follow other deities; and only this nation (Muslims) will be left with its hypocrites. Allah will come to them and say, 'I am Your Lord.' They will say, 'We shall stay in this place till our Lord comes to us and when our Lord will come, we will recognize Him. Then Allah will come to them again and say, 'I am your Lord.' They will say, 'You are our Lord.' Allah will call them, and As-Sirat (a bridge) will be laid across Hell and I (Muhammad) shall be the first amongst the Apostles to cross it with my followers. Nobody except the Apostles will then be able to speak and they will be saying then, 'O Allah! Save us. O Allah! Save us.'

There will be hooks like the thorns of Sa'dan in Hell. Have you seen the thorns of Sa'dan?" The people said, "Yes." He said, "These hooks will be like the thorns of Sa'dan but nobody except Allah knows their greatness in size and these will entangle the people according to their deeds; some of them will fall and stay in Hell forever; others will receive punishment (torn into small pieces) and will get out of Hell, till when Allah intends mercy on whomever He likes amongst the people of Hell, He will order the angels to take out of Hell those who worshipped none but Him alone. The angels will take them out by recognizing them from the traces of prostrations, for Allah has forbidden the (Hell) fire to eat away those traces. So they will come out of the Fire, it will eat away from the whole of the human body except the marks of the prostrations. At that time they will come out of the Fire as mere skeletons. The Water of Life will be poured on them and as a result they will grow like the seeds growing on the bank of flowing water. Then when Allah had finished from the Judgments amongst his creations, one man will be left between Hell and Paradise and he will be the last man from the people of Hell to enter paradise. He will be facing Hell, and will say, 'O Allah! Turn my face from the fire as its wind has dried me and its steam has burnt me.' Allah will ask him, "Will you ask for anything more in case this favor is granted to you?' He will say, "No by Your (Honor) Power!" And he will give to his Lord (Allah) what he will of the pledges and the covenants. Allah will then turn his face from the Fire. When he will face Paradise and will see its charm, he will remain quiet as long as Allah will. He then will say, 'O my Lord! Let me go to the gate of Paradise.' Allah will ask him, 'Didn't you give pledges and make covenants (to the effect) that you would not ask for anything more than what you requested at first?' He will say, 'O my Lord! Do not make me the most wretched, amongst Your creatures.' Allah will say, 'If this request is granted, will you then ask for anything else?' He will say, 'No! By Your Power! I shall not ask for anything else.' Then he will give to his Lord what He will of the pledges and the covenants. Allah will then let him go to the gate of Paradise. On reaching then and seeing its life, charm, and pleasure, he will remain quiet as long as Allah wills and then will say, 'O my Lord ! Let me enter Paradise.' Allah will say, May Allah be merciful unto you, O son of Adam! How treacherous you are! Haven't you made covenants and given pledges that you will not ask for anything more than what you have been given?' He will say, 'O my Lord! Do not make me the most wretched amongst Your creatures.' So Allah will laugh and allow him to enter Paradise and will ask him to request as much as he likes. He will do so till all his desires have been fulfilled . Then Allah will say, 'Request more of such and such things.' Allah will remind him and when all his desires and wishes; have been fulfilled, Allah will say "All this is granted to you and a similar amount besides." Abu Said Al-Khudri, said to Abu Huraira, 'Allah's Apostle said, "Allah will say, 'That is for you and ten times more like it.' "Abu Huraira said, "I do not remember from Allah's Apostle except (his saying), 'All this is granted to you and a similar amount besides." Abu Sahd said, "I heard him saying, 'That is for you and ten times more the like of it."

 I'm speechless here. Word-less, actually. Shall one wonder about the beauty of the moment when Allah will show Himself; or seek His protection against the horror of the Day of Judgement; or crave for the immense Mercy of Allah (SWT) that He blesses His slaves with; or ask of His Bounty and Pleasure in this life and the hereafter?
All of the above, I guess? (Duh!)

A Glimpse of Paradise and Hell (Hadith No. 712)

Bismillah.

Volume 1, Book 12, Number 712:
Narrated Asma' bint Abi Bakr:
The Prophet once offered the eclipse prayer. He stood for a long time and then did a prolonged bowing. He stood up straight again and kept on standing for a long time, then bowed a long bowing and then stood up straight and then prostrated a prolonged prostration and then lifted his head and prostrated a prolonged prostration. And then he stood up for a long time and then did a prolonged bowing and then stood up straight again and kept on standing for a long time. Then he bowed a long bowing and then stood up straight and then prostrated a prolonged prostration and then lifted his head and went for a prolonged prostration. On completion of the prayer, he said, "Paradise became so near to me that if I had dared, I would have plucked one of its bunches for you, and Hell became so near to me that said, 'O my Lord will I be among those people?' Then suddenly I saw a woman and a cat was lacerating her with its claws. On inquiring, it was said that the woman had imprisoned the cat till it died of starvation and she neither fed it no freed it so that it could feed itself."
